I don't know if I am more amazed with the defense's expert saying the water can't affect the port or with the fact that the state's expert had to made a google search to confirm that water can affect the port..
I suppose we should be quite pleased she was even familiar with Google?

According to today:

● Eldridge was not given time to review all of the information. (Red flag).

● Eldridge focused on the health app data, focusing on when the phone lost power at 4:33 a.m. on Feb. 14 and worked backwards to 10:50 a.m. on Feb. 13. (More to the phone than just the health app).

● Eldridge reviewed the video on the phone and agreed with the timestamp and location that state police found.
Eldridge agreed that the health app did not log any movement after 2:32 p.m. on Feb. 13.

● Eldridge had to agree there was no information that the phone was powered off overnight. It was in and out of service before 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2017.

● McLeland asked if Eldridge knew about the cell service at the scene on Feb. 13. Eldridge said, "No." (Red flag, seeing she is a FBI digital evidence instructor).

She answered No to the water question.

At 3:35 McLeland starts cross-examination again. Eldridge says that it takes “a little bit of movement” for a phone to start logging movements.

The jury asked the following questions:

  1. Did you ever write your own timeline? Eldridge said “no, not enough time.”
  2. Could any of this be related to Libby’s iPad? Eldridge says they were not synced.
  3. Would water impact movement? Eldridge says no, that water would not impact the port.
  4. Can you tell if the phone was on silent or vibrate? Eldridge says no.
  5. Could you review Allen’s historical location timeline if he was using a “Ting” phone? She says she could if it was available.
  6. Are there other apps that measure movement? She says yes, but did not look to see if Libby had them.
Court is in recess at 3:45 p.m.

She answered that for in terms of would that make the phone register movement--not if it could make the phone think it had headphones plugged in.

Libby's phone was found under Abby's body and it was testified to that the ground under Abby's body was not disturbed.

Have we heard anything more about a juror yelling out either at Gull or the prosecution?
Ohhhh, I missed that, please fill me in on the details.

I asked google and this is what it said

Headphone notifications
Yes, iPhones can note when headphones are plugged in and provide headphone audio notifications:

These notifications are available on the Summary screen of the Health app. Depending on the region, Headphone Notifications may be on by default and may not be able to be turned off. To turn Headphone Notifications on or off, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety.
Thank you #steeltowngirl! I'm not an iPhone user

The fact that the investigators were inexperienced means they should have known they were in over their heads. What did they do? Kick the FBI off the case and demand their work product be turned over. I can’t applaud them here at all. I wouldn’t be able to put a man away for life just because the investigators say “trust me”, when their own expert doesn’t know what “audio output” means, among other issues. Moo. I’m afraid the state didn’t prove RA as guilty BARD for me given all these investigative issues. Moo.

If inexperience is a qualifying mark, then what does it say about Eldrige??

" ...pointing out that she’s had no cell phone extraction training between 2009 – 2024."

Yeah, we are to take her word on the subject? Lol!
I won't!

I would not be voting Guilty because investigators are saying 'trust me.' I'd be going by what I saw during the trial. So far, the prosecution is laying out a logical persuasive case, IMO. Unlike the erratic Defense attempt, imo.

The officer probably didn't answer yes because he felt a trap happening. I think it was going to be a trick question of some kind. So he tried to side step it, imo.

I sure hope an educated guess isn't sufficient when it comes to a person's freedom.

If the phone was damaged by water, I want to know if it's documented by the people who examined the phone.

I think people are incorrectly jumping to the word "DAMAGE" when it comes to water and the phone.

Water or dirt can be in the headphone port and complete the circuit, making the phone think something was plugged in--that is caused by the water or debris completing the circuit NOT damaging it.

Hours go by...the water moisture evaporates or water droplet/dirt particle shifts because it was just dangling in there....circuit is no longer complete, phone thinks something was unplugged from the jack.

A phone can have water in a port without it being damaged or registering as damaged by the phone--but it can be just enough to complete a circuit in the headphone jack.

Talking amongst themselves? Talking to someone outside of the jury?
Probably more talking with another uror while a previous witness was on the stad me thinks.

Remember grades school? "Now students, ears and eyes this way please!!"

From your link: “Eldridge said her analysis of the findings led her to the conclusion that the phone last connected to a cell phone tower at 5:44 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2014. This is a little over 10 minutes after Libby’s phone quit moving.”

I thought we were told it quit moving at 2:32pm??? Moo but really?????

That is a reporter hurrying to get this article typed up, IMHO. Further down it says:

"Eldridge conceded that she didn’t have a chance to review all of Cecil’s data and cell phone findings. She agreed with the time stamps on the videos and photos and that the lost logged movement of the phone was at 2:32 p.m. "

(BBM)
"Jurors also asked if water or moisture on the phone could register as movement.

She said she did not know."

According to both fox59 and wishtv, the question from the jury was about movement, and NOT the more important question as to whether or not moisture could cause the phone to think something had been inserted into the audio port.
My hunch is the jury already knew that moisture/dirt could cause the phone to think something was plugged into the audio port so they didn't bother asking. :)

This investigation was so ridiculously poorly done that I don’t think I could find RA guilty! And that’s not even including what has been suggested as other possible suspects etc. This is gross. Moo.
Well, I haven't seen the Jurors actually presented with any other possible viable suspects ... so there's that.

It's a great thing IMO that the Jurors have to rely on actual testimony and evidence and not SM gossip and unsupported inuendo.

All IMO, JMT.

So her conclusions are based on what was known over a decade ago. So given that the iPhone 6S pre-orders were first available in 2015, that means she had zero training on that model of phone or any other Apple phone from then until to today. That’s a very odd way of labeling someone as an expert. Are we sure she wasn’t testifying about a rotary dial landline?

This was what the D decided was their expert - paid for - to help decide the fate of their client. If I were sitting at that table as their client, I’d be filling my britches about now.

JMO

ETA clarity/context - I also had to text my mom (78) to make sure she wasn’t the one who testified. No worries.

I'm not 78 yet but I'm getting up there and even I know you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Especially if it's incentivized and sensational in nature!

I do not think it has a SIM card. I had one.
Respectfully,

I’m pretty sure they’re still using SIM cards to this day or some form of it. They’ve moved the trays around the perimeter & have changed the size of the cards but they’re still there until around the 14. Didn’t bother reading about the eSIM card as it doesn’t pertain to the 6s model.

Yes, not quite the right question, thank you!
