In my notes I have DNV's Date of Birth as being:
3-8-93 ....

But I do not have the resource from where I got that information... And I do not remember...:(
Oops!

Looks like someone is ahead of me here! :)

@cedgison My understanding is that a Black Box is only useful if you have the vehicle in your posession. It collects data which can be downloaded, but doesn't necessarily communicate it to some outside service.

Almost all are built into the airbags or standardized restraint systems. Trying to remove it would deploy your airbags. From what I have read is they are very difficult almost impossible to remove. So surely a mechanic would have to be involved and since it is illegal in most jurisdictions it would have to be a shady mechanic!

Thank you for looking this up!

3/8/93 is correct.

[Edited because I typed incorrect info. My apologies!]

Interesting. Thank you!

I'm more worried about my search history. I just want to be interesting enough to be a multi-thread case tbh.
Tee! Hee! :)

OnStar stated they can continue to track the vehicle unless a customer requests otherwise, they even say to call them for instructions on disabling it.

If she had not activated OnStar and the previous owner had requested the discontinuance of the location services would that transfer over?
My understanding is that OnStar account starts 'fresh' with each owner of the vehicle. As the vehicle was most likely financed by DNV its unclear to me whose name would be on the OnStar acct. Would account be in the name of Pearl Motors (if Pearl was using OnStar to track the vehicle until any loan was paid in full) or DNV? I'm not sure how this would work as Pearl would need to be able to track its vehicle. Its because of this confusing point of OnStar account ownership I had always assumed that Pearl installed some kind of box for tracking purposes itself that was separate from OnStar.

I do know when I got a rental car with OnStar last week that the account was in the name of the rental car company and I had full access to the service as the person renting the car. Maybe the setup with Pearl was similar until such time as the loan was paid and then the account would be changed to DNV name. We don't know the answers to any of this unfortunately.

I understand that OnStar can track your location regardless of whether you are subscribed or not. What I am saying is: Per ONSTAR you can opt out of the two way communication and location services by calling the 888 number and request the two-way connection be turned off. This is a separate request and process from simply cancelling your service.

ETA: If a customer has requested to discontinue ALL communications between OnStar and their vehicle- subscribed or not. Wouldn't OnStar have to basically reconnect to the car in order to regain that visibility? If so, when does the visibility begin? Does it start upon the reconnection of the two-way communication link? This change was made when OnStar changed their privacy statement to say they could continue to monitor vehicles post-termination of service. People FREAKED out about it.
Yes, you are correct that people freaked out over the continued monitoring. What happened next was that you tube videos popped up to explain how to remove OnStar to prevent this monitoring even when there was no subscription.

To answer your other question about reconnecting to the service my understanding is that its the same registration process you go through when you first get the car. You connect through OnStar Blue Button using the VIN number and the process takes about 10 min including setting the app up on your cell phone. When I did it there was wait time to get through but the process wasn't difficult. I also checked again today and the used car offer is now 3 months free with no credit card through GM. I had originally read on Pearl Motors webite that the offer was 6 months free OnStar.

Thank you @cedgison That at least eliminates him as a suspect in my book.
This arrest info is for 6/6/18 and doesn't detail release date. DNV missing date was 7/17/18. Previously someone asked the question about rehab vs halfway house and we never got any answer. This question is critical because there is a whole range of access options to the outside world depending on what exactly the situation with the facility might be. Range of possiblities is total lockdown (no outside access) to curfew (partial outside access) to limited hours out of facility (partial outside access) etc. So as far as I can tell we can't answer these questions and we don't know when TT was released from jail, so there is no TT alibi and he hasn't been cleared by LE.

TT was served with an alias writ (arrest warrant issued by a judge) on 6/6 but he was not convicted or serving a sentence so he could have gotten out the next day. No one has to provide any information they don't want to but we still don't know how long he was in jail if we don't know his release date.

JDT said TT called DW on 7/18. If he did, he wasn't in jail that day.

No substantiation of detainment or confinement means no alibi...IMO

What a shame people are using the Mobile Police Dept blog like a FB group

OT; just an idle curiousity but every car made since 2014 has a similar "black box" type thing from the manufacturer. Are people disabling them in all their vehicles or are people not aware that all cars now have them?

Good question. Regardless, Danni's GPs was transmitting from The Dublin to the Shell station. I wonder if they have tracked any other OnStar customers taking the same route and the GPS not being disabled at the Shell station.

Yes, that black box thing that was in Danni's car when she drove it off the lot earlier that day was not in her vehicle at 11:24 PM on July 17.

Who knew that she had a new car? Who knew that the new car had a GPS?

Who could have been in Car 3?

I think most people are not aware of them. I will look up how they are disabled. I wonder if they are hidden or easily accessed. I know that caused controversy with privacy advocates.

It was a privacy issue, and for some reason the alleged carjackers that pounced on Danni at the Shell station knew to disable her GPS before driving away.

That seems like a good piece of information that not everyone has - that when you car jack a woman and steal her car you need to disable the GPS in her brand new "paper plate" car.

How did the car help make Danni disappear?

Its not directly tied to this case but I read an article today about Sheryl McCollum of the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute which she founded in 2004. I ran into this article about Sheryl as she has agreed to take on the Heather Turner case in GA.
https://styleblueprint.com/atlanta/...estigator-sheryl-mccollum-faces-of-atlanta-2/

Maybe Sheryl or her team could take a look at this case to assist the MPD? But if MPD hasn't involved any outsiders and turned down KlassKids then its doubtful. Still don't get why no outside help if there are no new leads?

This is speculation but in reading complaints written about Pearl Motors by people that had mechanical issues with their cars, Pearl Motors replied that they don't do repairs on their cars and use an outside repair shop near their location. On thread 2 we had looked at Google maps to see which repair shop this might be that was near Pearl Motors and we posted a couple of names. Our assumption on thread 2 was that Pearl Motors would outsource installation of any GPS device to a mechanic. Maybe Pearl had a mechanic on staff just to install GPS units but I'm not sure they had the volume of business to justify this staff position? My guess would be it was just more efficient to outsource the install of the boxes to the outside mechanic shop.

Arrested 6/6/18 in Mobile County, AL.

After his release, he was in rehab and has only been home from rehab for about 2-2.5 weeks.
Thank you so much @cedgison
I hope he is able to tackle his addiction for the sake of his daughter, and his own health.
All the best to him!

The black box in an airplane does continue transmitting, even from the bottom of the ocean for a time. The OnStar GPS in Danni's car should have tracked her car from the Dublin, to the Shell station, and then to the next destination. Even without an OnStar subscription, the car dealership could track the car.

There's something about disabling her car on the spot at the Shell station between 11:08 and 11:24 that is somewhat spectacular in terms of on-the-spot knowledge and skill.

The problem is that a signal from Danni's car was transmitted until she was at the Shell station at 11:08, and between then and 11:24, it stopped working.

Who was with her at the Shell station after DW returned to The Dublin to collect her phone? Who would have a reason to follow her from The Dublin until she was vulnerable and alone?

I mean, we have no right to the information if it's not public. And that's fine. But I work based on evidence. I shared the custody litigation because I thought it provided us with more evidence about possible areas of strain in DNV's life. I looked for some remand or sentencing document so I could prove TT was in jail or a court-ordered secure facility and we could all move on but I do not see anything in the public record. I mean he was arrested for another crime while in a halfway house so I think it should be pretty obvious why we are asking if the "rehab facility" was secure and court-ordered or not.

My heart goes out to TT as he's obviously struggling with addiction. It is a disease and it takes a village to stay clean and sober when you have addictions. I hope he can continue to put his sobriety first and become the parent his daughter needs.

I hope it's clear that no one here is asking these questions to be a jerk. Many of us have our own struggles and we understand the hell substance abuse can be.

It seems to be more than addiction. Perhaps someone can correct me, but I thought this was something like dealing heroin
