Regarding the cars at the Shell station, please help me understand how 2 cars fits with what we know.

What we know

Danni and friend pull into the Shell station because she forgot her phone at pub. They look for phone in car (2 minutes), call her phone, and then decide to return to pub to collect phone.

There is no evidence that Danni is alive after leaving the Shell station. Ten months later Danni and her car are discovered in water.

There are 3 cars
:

A third car intercepts Danni before she leaves the Shell station, disables her GPS (16 minutes), and she is submerged in her car in water. The friend arrives at the pub to collect the phone within the expected time.

There are 2 cars:

The friend leaves the Shell station and re-enters the Shell station, spends the next 16 minutes disabling Danni's GPS. The friend keeps this secret. Danni no longer wants her phone. She leaves the Shell station. The friend arrives at the pub to collect the phone in record time.

Reasons for denying the obvious and speculating that there are only 2 cars

The most obvious reason to speculate that there are two cars, despite her friend's statement that he left the Shell station after 2 minutes, is to promote the idea that Danni voluntarily abandoned her life. Looking at this from a criminal perspective, this is not an abduction and not a car theft. This is criminal intent to eliminate all trace of Danni and her car at the Shell station, with knowledge that the GPS must be disabled at that location in order to avoid arrest.

I would be interested in seeing how those numbers line up with the pings from the cars GPS. MPD has referred to the GPS and pings. So that means it only updates locations every so often and sometimes the pings can be off in their location placement and give more of a general area. Also the third car is speculated to be the first car that was seen driving g off.

The GPS Tracker that would have been used is fairly accurate up to several feet and pings (sends location information to a server) every 2 minutes. So there would be a very good record of times and directions up until the Shell station.

On top of that DWs rental car would have had some sort of tracker on it, most likely OnStar or something similar. That information would also be available to LE.

Interesting, I don't remember that. Here's the timeline from the first page of thread #5 from @Vail

Timeline:
July17 - Purchased car at Pearl Motors Inc at ?
July17 - Arrived at Dublin Pub at ?
July17 - 10:45pm - Left Dublin pub, reportedly headed to Ollie's
July17 - Approx 11:00 - Is reportedly following DW (riving his rental)south on 90 when she flashes her lights to pull over (this is in the opposite direction of Ollie's)
July17 - 11:05PM - Both cars on video at Shell Station
July17 - around 11PM last GPS location and activity on phone at Shell Station, after this there is no further activity. GPS is disabled.
July17 -11:07PM - One car leaves
July17 - 11:08PM - Another car pulls in both cars stay parked
July17 - 11:24PM - Both cars leave
July17 - Approx 11:45pm DW returns to Dublin's to retrieve Danni's phone
July 18 Approx 12am Arrives at Ollie's and stays for a few minutes
July 18 1:00 am DW Returns rental car
July20 - Reported missing by JT and DW together in person
July 20 - Police search Danni's apartment
July25 - Confirmed Case given to Mobile Homicide by media
July27 - Vigil held at 7:30PM Cottage Hill / Medal of Honor Park (organized by Julie)
Aug 2 - PD holds press conference

Facts as we know them:
1. DW was the last person known to see Danni
2. DW's story is inconsistent and has changed
3. DW had a rental car that night <modsnipped no link to verify>
4. LE has Danni's phone, which was found at Dublin's
5. Danni's apartment was searched
6. Danni's car was newly purchased with paper tags (no plates)
7. MK and RC are silent since
8. Danni's daughter is fine and with JDT
9.There was a LoJack tracking device on Danni's car that was tracked to the shell station. References to a GPS ping refer to the LoJack device on her car NOT, her phone. The last ping was at the Shell.
10. Danni's phone is confirmed to have been retrieved from Dublin's by DW and is now in LE possession.
11. LE have CCTV of the gas station showing Danni together with DW and Danni with another car
12. TT was in rehab the night Danni disappeared.
13. LE state they have no evidence of homicide, however the case is being handled by homicide.
14. A large amount of cash was found in Danni's apartment along with a recent list of life goals.
15. Danni does not have a history of drug abuse, and was successfully employed at the time of her disappearance.

2 things (possibly meaningless, but wanted to point out):

1. Hwy 90, aka Government Blvd does not go north-south. It, like all even-numbered highways and interstates in the US, goes east-west. It is known as Hwy 90 in West Mobile and areas farther west such as Theodore and Grand Bay, and on into Mississippi. But in midtown and downtown Mobile, it's Government Blvd, being called 90 again somewhere around and/or east of Mobile Bay (Baldwin County, AL and on into Florida).

2. Based on timing, Car 3 could definitely be the same as Car 1, as it takes DV and DW approximately 20 minutes to get to the Shell from Dublin's - approximately the same amount of time that elapses between DV and Car 3 leaving the Shell station and DW arriving back at Dublin's.

All MOO, as always. Btw, there is supposed to be a vigil tonight, but weather doesn't look good at the moment.

What if we don't know the exact timeline that Danni and her friend were at the Shell station?

Suppose the CCTV timestamp at the Shell station is not the same as cell phone timestamp. For example, if the CCTV timestamp is 6-8 minutes slower than real time, then maybe Danni's friend had time to drive back to the pub at 11:24PM, park, look around the parking lot for the phone, go into the pub, inquire whether anyone turned in a phone. What if real CCTV time was 11:32 - 11:34PM? Is it still possible?

What if police are not commenting on the theory that Danni's friend helped her disable the GPS because they want to see how it plays out when people think that Danni left voluntarily. We already know that one expanded theory was that, after she left the Shell station, she drove to a shady part of town to buy drugs.

Who actually doubts the information from Danni's friend - is it the police, other friends Danni was with that night, her ex-boyfriend's family? Who genuinely believes that Danni's friend is lying about what happened that night? Who suggested that her friend might get away with murder because he has friends in high places? Did that come from police?

Sure, it seems absolutely possible to me. As I said, my observations may be completely meaningless, and at least in the case of the timing could only be as accurate as the information they're based on. MOO, of course.

Police are able to determine whether the timestamp on the CCTV is aligned with cell phone time based on two factors. First, they can look at the real time footage timestamp and compare it to their cell phone time. Secondly, the friend's phone was used to phone Danni's phone in the 2 minutes they were at the Shell station. If cell records indicate that the call was made at 11:14 rather than 11:07, that could corroborate what they learn using the first method.

Has anyone been able to pull up TT record? I can’t be for certain the mugshot I saw was his. What if she was the one selling? Maybe the runner for DW? Was this a result of his debt to someone?
Also, I’m no forensic but it doesn’t look like the car pulled from the water had been there for 9 months. Any opinions on the condition of the car?

It didn't look like it had been there for 9 months to me, either.

Do you have some comparables of cars pulled from fast moving water after several months or years? Cars pulled from lakes will look very different than cars pulled from moving water.
I think a car would look cleaner if water was rushing past it constantly. Just MOO. This makes me wonder, could the damage to the car also be caused by those currents?

I suppose it depends on how much debris is in the water. Maybe dents were a results of a minor collision at the Shell station.

Obviously now that LE has the car they should know more about the tracking device and why it stopped pinning.
