All Sauvie Island Searches

I hope LE has a very good reason to be searching out there again and again. There are so many places to search and so relatively few search teams...
My guess is that they are pretty confident Terri's phone was on the island during the unaccounted for time the day Kyron went missing. I still wonder if these searches were prompted by a new analysis of her cellphone data.

I am unclear as to what would be different if the cell phone was analyzed back in June up to now. But I am not up on cell phone technology. Could the same search/analysis yield different results?

Bean...free Wifi at the Island Cove Cafe on Sauvie....guess what road it's on...NW Reeder Road. I just called them to confirm.

I wanted to post this link to the Google map of this. This is near where they are searching, and look how it's right near the water (the Island Cafe). So...if she did use their wi-fi (keep in mind I've often pulled up near free wi-fi places without actually going in the place), then maybe that is why they are focusing there, because she sent a FB post or something from there? Just wonderin' aloud.

I can't imagine that the purported pings that LE was allegedly aware of all the way back in the first week of Kyron's absence are the only reason for a new concentration by searchers of this area.

I think either LE has received additional lead(s) regarding SI or perhaps due to the terrain being dificult, they were not satisfied with their initial searches and are retracing their steps.

I hope something breaks, today, 10-10-10, supposed to be an auspicious dat. I pray it turns out to be one for this case.

This article gives a hint as to how difficult it is and how ways to massage the data are evolving (it's about a conference of wireless researchers and experts):

I had assumed, wrongly, that the telecom industry had pretty much figured out how to locate a cell phone call, no matter where that call is made. But it’s not that simple. According to the folks I spoke to at the conference, who work on these exact issues for big wireless carriers like Verizon and AT&T, the industry has got the basics down, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. In rural areas, for example, it can still be quite a challenge to figure out the location of a cell phone user.

I'm no cell phone ping expert but as a scientist I'm very aware of how different data analysis techniques can yield different results.

I wonder if they got back some forensic results from something they found earlier?

This has become increasingly agonizing for me (and I'm sure more so for people closer to Kyron). I was thinking if only they'd search more, that big break would come. When they were searching out at Old Germantown Rd., I thought that would be the break they needed, and now that they're into their 4th day of concentrated (re)searches out at SI, I can't help but feel hopeless about it. As others have said, there must be a good reason they're zeroing in on SI, but I just don't think they're finding anything. Sorry for throwing a pity party. It just feels like a really low point. The resources are limited, and the weather is deteriorating, and the island is so big...

Yes, we've been discussing this. Could she have posted the pictures from her laptop while she was on SI, on the timeline threads. Loves2bmom, found that this cafe has the free wifi.

If so, wouldn't an employee of the cafe have been called to the GJ? They could easily have traced the IP address to the cafe's server. I suppose we don't know that that hasn't happened, but that road wasn't listed as one for which video or eyewitnesses were requested. It would make a lot more sense for the timeline though.

It must be exasperating to live so near the area where a child went missing. This is a very high profile crime. :grouphug:

Actually, we were wondering if that's why they're searching Reeder Rd & Retenaar Rd areas. Perhaps it was her computer that lead them there and not a phone ping? Someone more knowledgeable than me about wifi and laptops said she could have accessed the wifi without actually being in the cafe. (I think?)

Is it still raining up there? It's pouring down here and my poor hubby and son are out chasing bambi.

Look in the Kyron scanner thread for a few blurbs I've heard on the scanner today.
(I'm not hearing much as I'm on the other side of the hill and when the weather is bad the reception is not that great)

Also, I took some pictures of the plaques posted in the covered wildlife viewing area yesterday (right across from Willow Bar) ...

Yesterday I saw searchers west of Reeder Rd from this covered area and also along the road to Willow Bar (I called it the Day use Area in my photobucket pictures)
This is ONE of the spots searchers were but REMEMBER, they were in MANY OTHER places yesterday also..

I don't know which one you mean, the one on Reeder Rd, which is also a small market?

Here is a link showing the point where the county line is
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=45.72....73018,-122.771251&spn=0.003939,0.009141&z=17

The pdf link I put in the post above has an EXCELLENT map in it.
If you zoom in (enlarge) the map, it shows the actual county line, and
of interest to me the dikes, waterways, etc...
here is the link again- it's at the bottom of the page..

Thanks again freefallzzzz for all that you do for us.

The first link 'The Sauvie Island Story', at the bottom are regulations. You must have a permit to dig, cut trees, remove artifacts, etc. A person who wants to dig in order to hide a body would have to be out of sight and well hidden. that's just my assumption.

I do believe that this case is not anywhere near as complicated as we are making it. In the end, I think we will be astounded by its simplicity. my opinions only.
