I don't know if the restaurant was closed all day on Monday. However, in this video, Matt Gutman claims the restaurant was closed on Monday around 3 PM when Robyn and Giordano were there. I translated that part of the video below.

<snip>

It's through this new surveillance video, and we have multiple angles on two days and we've able to piece together the most accurate timeline yet before and after Robyn Gardner went missing, and we're getting a glimpse at why police in Aruba still think that Gary Giordano knows more than he is saying. In these exclusive surveillance videos, GMA has learned that just a day before Robyn Gardner vanished at this isolated beach, she and her companion Gary Giordano had been to the same beach at the same time. Look closely, that's the rented Toyota Rav 4 caught by surveillance cameras passing the closed restaurant just after 3 PM. Half an hour later, you see them here in this grainy image, ambling along the beach behind the closed restaurant. You can tell it's Robyn, she wearing the same sundress she'd wear the following day, the day she vanishes. The next day they are back at the restaurant, a server notices the couple, Gardner's blonde hair extensions, the tattoos. Two pictures are taken on a Blackberry as Gardner leaves the restaurant. That's just before 4pm. Again, thatss robyn in the sundress, Giordano in his khaki shorts and those white sneakers. Then two hours later, its 6:15. Giordano again, this time alone in a swimsuit. He claims he lost Gardner 15 minutes earlier while the two were snorkeling....

Confirmation.... Thank you

One thing that can be put to rest... restaurant closed when GG and RG were there

There are other pictures taken at the restaurant with cars parked straight in. And you can see on the video that there are cars going in the opposite direction. It could be one of those things where one car parks on an angle and the rest follow. Plus there is no reason to have the road one way. It's not a thru road and it ends at JADS and the restaurant.

Didn't GG say when they were there the day before the restaurant was closed??? The date on the video with all those cars parked is 01/08/2011 (which is international for August 1, 2011) and a full day before RG went missing. So was the restaurant really closed on Monday or was it that GG was just looking at the area for the following day. jmo

Regarding the bolded above...

I don't see cars going in the opposite direction in the video, unless we're talking about two different videos? The only car I have seen going in the opposite direction was the white Hyundai in question.

Maybe we can just agree to wait til LC gets there
I have told you the direction I travelled in, whether it was right or wrong, that was the direction I travelled in

I can only assume, having been there with someone who lives there, this is not uncommon

Plus the road ends right there at the restaurant and dive shop. It's not a high traffic area so I see no reason for it to be one way. But I'll check. I don't recall in the past seeing any one way road signs on the Esso compound. Round-abouts and downtown area some streets are one way and also in San Nicholas but I don't recall seeing any at Baby Beach. There really is no traffic to speak of there. jmo

I remember a grassy circle in front of the bar and dive shop
As we approached, we stayed right
It is very possible that people approach by going around that circle, staying to the left.We did not do that. Did we appraoch it incorrectly? I can not say, all i can say as fact is that we stayed to the right
The right way/the wrong way, I don't know
And when we left, from behing the Rum reef , we travelled left, not around the circle of grass

I certainlty don't know if my driver went the right way or not, there was no traffic to deal with

  • #1,066
So, when we came up to, the rum reef, before the circle, you can turn right
that takes you to another parking lot, closer to baby beach, in front of it in fact
We drove there first, turned around and came back to Rum reef.
Picture the circle in front of you.
We turned right, did not go around the circle

I do hope I am making sense

There is just one thing here that bothers me

First of all, we certainly may have travelled the wrong way on a one way street
I can not say positively that we did not

If you are behing the Rum reef... its a longish building, jads, rum reef, a jumble of buildings. then there is the old esso/nanki/concrete club, a low , long building

This entire complex of buildings blocks the parking lot and the road in front from view

I would need to know where this fisherman/fishermen/ was/ were fishing

I can not see how anyone could see which way GG drove off unless fishermean/men was near the side of the building which is actually a beach

Its just a question.... JMO

I'm guessing on this one but on the video it shows Mr. Silva walking off of a dock area which is over towards Roger's Beach so he could have been out fishing at the end of the dock which could give him a view of the road in front of the restaurant and the jetty area behind the buildings. It is hard to say because he did not specifically say where he was when he noticed GG driving. jmo

That makes sense
he would havea view of the road from there IMO

Does anyone have this video?
That is quite a distance

When witnesses were talking about the jetty... they weren't talking about this wooden pier , were they?

And thank you for finding the video

No. The jetty is the peninsula that protects the cove at Baby Beach. He was walking off a fishing pier. We have seen the area where GG was parked and it's not a wooden pier. Those piers are not wide enough to support traffic. And the only wooden pier is on the Rodger's Beach side of the restaurant. jmo

He also says that some people saw something in the water.. fins or something

Yes, I noticed the fisherman brought up fins. But I remember in an interview with Geraldo, Giordano said he didn't have flippers for Robyn, but he had them for himself.

So GG had fins but didn't wear them. And RG went in barefoot and he had no fins for her. If he wasn't wearing them why didn't he let her use them to guarantee her safety. You certainly have more power in the water with fins on. jmo

I believe Silva about the one way circle but isn't this the same guy who said helicopters spotted two sharks and a large sea turtle? How would he know what they spotted anyway?

I've never heard officially what they found as far as snorkling equipment..I have always assumed he had his gear in the car and he claims Robyn's were lost at sea with her? What we do know is he changed his story because at first he said he got his shoes and socks wet looking for Robyn. But from what I gather he changed that after he was iun custody to snorkeling with his shoes on..

He must have had a good reason to change his story and want everyone to believe he was snorkeling with shoes and socks on. Ridiculous..IMO

I agree LambChop. Something isn't right with his story. I'm not convinced they were ever in the water.

Are we sure Silva was the witness who made the claim about the sharks, turtle and helicopters? In the article below, it doesn't specifically mention Silva as the source of that information.

<snip>

Giordano's version of events emerged as doubt has been cast by witnesses in recent days that Gardner ever went into the water. A witness at the restaurant where the couple was last seen together expressed surprise at the claim that Gardner went snorkeling because of the obvious effort she had put into her hair and make-up that evening.

A second witness claims to have seen the couple stroll on the beach, but not enter the water.

Giordano, 50, is being held in an Aruban jail and is the lone suspect in Gardner's disappearance, although he has not been charged with a crime. Aruban police have said they believe Gardner is dead.

Giordano has previously stated that Gardner had taken sleeping pills earlier that day and the two drank vodka at the Marriott Hotel before showing up at the Rum Reef Bar & Grill in the Baby Beach area of the island on the Aug. 2 evening that she vanished.

People at the beachfront restaurant said she was woozy and barely ate her salad.

But the source said that she did go in the water, gashing her toe on her first attempt to go swimming. She retreated with her toe bleeding, and a spot of blood was found near where the couple's rental car had been parked, the source said. Forensics is still testing the blood.

The source also said that helicopters spotted two sharks and a giant sea turtle in the area about the same time that Gardner vanished.
