Supposedly the car was driving around for 45 minutes during that crucial time period and leaving just before GG arrived so I think thats possible.IMO

Sadly according to taco Stein they can't locate who rented the vehicle..So I suppose we will never know? How many White Hyundai Getz's could have possible been rented in Aruba on that day??

T. Stein has not given any recent statements regarding the car. All the rental agencies have your specific information, home address, email info, telephone numbers, license, etc. So the chances of finding whoever was driving that car on that day are pretty good. It would just have taken them some time to find them because it would mean contacting people out of the country. So it is possible that they now know who was driving the car and why they were there. My guess is it is an innocent person and they don't want their name revealed as having anything to do with this case. I think the reasons for that would be obvious. jmo

I agree
It seems so simple to me
Good records are kept in Aruba when you rent a car
It would mean calling and verifying who had the car on that day and if they saw anything JMO

If the driver did not come forward immediately, it would mean that their holiday was over and they left the Island, probably unaware LE wanted to talk to them

Are we certain the white Hyundai was a rented vehicle? :waitasec:

If not, it would be more difficult to determine who was the owner/operator of the car.

It's not mentioned in the Prosecutor's press release.

The Office of the Public Prosecutor of Aruba again calls on the public to give information to the police about the man G.V.G. who was arrested August 5, 2011 as a suspect in the investigation into the possible drowning of the American woman R.G. on August 2, 2011.

After releasing photos of the suspect, the woman R.G. and the white Toyota Rav 4 with licence number V-787 on August 11 and 24, 2011, the Office of the Public Prosecutor has decided today to publish a still shot and part of a video of a security camera of the JADS Dive Center the afternoon of the alleged drowning of the woman. A white Hyundai Getz can be seen on the still shot and the video, driving in northern direction at about 17.59 PM on the road between the Rum Reef Restaurant and the sea. Following the statements of the suspect G.V.G., the driver of this car and the passengers could have seen the white Toyota RAV 4, the rental car the suspect and the woman R.G. drove during their stay on Aruba, parked near the sea behind the Rum Reef Restaurant. It is possible that they have also seen the man G.V.G. and the woman R.G. The Office of the Public Prosecutor of Aruba urgently requests the driver of this Hyundai Getz and/or the passengers to contact the Police of Aruba or to call the tip-line at 11141.

All we have is a article from the Amigoe newspaper that interviewed Taco Stein..If the car was seen making long drives at around a quarter past 5 and then seen on video at 6PM then it was driving around the area for 45 minutes. No wonder why they wanted to find the owner..IMO

Snip(Link has been posted several times)

In these images, this white Hyundai Getz to see long drives around quarter past five in the afternoon on August 2. The occupants could be seen Gardner and Giordano. Stein says Amigoe the research team has spoken about the question 'how many of these cars driving around on Aruba. He could not say whether that was actually chosen. "It is very difficult as it was a rental car."

All cars are registered so finding a driver who lives on the island would be less difficult than a tourist. If they were not sure it's a rental they would have probably eliminated the locally owned vehicles first. jmo

Just another observation - IIRC, the street in front of Rum Reef is a one way street - one way in the opposite direction from which the white Hyundai was driving.

When ABC interviewed the fisherman, he said that he first noticed Giordano's car because it was travelling in the wrong direction on the road from Rum Reef to the beach. The white Hyundai was also parked and drove away in the wrong direction on that street. Is this a coincidence that both of these cars would be going the wrong direction on a one-way street within an hour?

In many of the pictures/videos I have seen in association with this case, the cars are traveling from left to right on the street in front of Rum Reef/Jads, which leads me to believe it is a one way street. However, the white Hyundai in question is traveling in the opposite direction.

I don't believe it is one way. If this was GG's car they were coming to the restaurant but it was closed on the 1st. We still see cars parked there but maybe they were getting ready to close for the day. Does anyone know what their listed hours are???? jmo

Its posted here somewhere LC

IIRC it closes about five

Hmmm, then why do all the pictures show vehicles going in one direction with the exception of the car in question?

MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, here is how that can go down. First of all, the way that ABC describes all the cameras is not possible because we walked around the place. There are six cameras at the front of the facility. There are none at the back of this facility. So you can`t see what`s going on behind the restaurant.

That restaurant also closes between 5:00 and 5:30. We double-checked that today. So at 6:30, if he had gone there, there was no one there. That`s why he may appear to be rattling on doors or knocking on things. There is no one there at that time. It is closed, which could be why he then may have gone to the beach to get a phone there. The question is why didn`t he have a phone?

Were you there after hours?

Maybe Lambchop can check that out when in Aruba next time.

It's also odd the cars in the photos appear to be parked on an angle in which they would have arrived from the left.

No, I was not there after hours
and as i said, we are all tourists, maybe we went the wrong way!

But when we left, we drove down to the left, (our back to the beach) to see cocoa beach and a few other sites and we were coming from the back of the building

Maybe we drove wrong.
Probably not the first or last to do that
Perhaps we were driving erratically also

And I feel confident Lambchop will take the time to check that

There are other pictures taken at the restaurant with cars parked straight in. And you can see on the video that there are cars going in the opposite direction. It could be one of those things where one car parks on an angle and the rest follow. Plus there is no reason to have the road one way. It's not a thru road and it ends at JADS and the restaurant.

Didn't GG say when they were there the day before the restaurant was closed??? The date on the video with all those cars parked is 01/08/2011 (which is international for August 1, 2011) and a full day before RG went missing. So was the restaurant really closed on Monday or was it that GG was just looking at the area for the following day. jmo

An excellent question
I have looked and can find no reference other than posts that state for sure the restaurant is closed Monday

I don't know if the restaurant was closed all day on Monday. However, in this video, Matt Gutman claims the restaurant was closed on Monday around 3 PM when Robyn and Giordano were there. I translated that part of the video below.

:15 - 1:37 on video timestamp

By MATT GUTMAN (@mattgutmanABC) and JESSICA HOPPER (@jesshop23)
Sept. 12, 2011

<snip>

It's through this new surveillance video, and we have multiple angles on two days and we've able to piece together the most accurate timeline yet before and after Robyn Gardner went missing, and we're getting a glimpse at why police in Aruba still think that Gary Giordano knows more than he is saying. In these exclusive surveillance videos, GMA has learned that just a day before Robyn Gardner vanished at this isolated beach, she and her companion Gary Giordano had been to the same beach at the same time. Look closely, that's the rented Toyota Rav 4 caught by surveillance cameras passing the closed restaurant just after 3 PM. Half an hour later, you see them here in this grainy image, ambling along the beach behind the closed restaurant. You can tell it's Robyn, she wearing the same sundress she'd wear the following day, the day she vanishes. The next day they are back at the restaurant, a server notices the couple, Gardner's blonde hair extensions, the tattoos. Two pictures are taken on a Blackberry as Gardner leaves the restaurant. That's just before 4pm. Again, thatss robyn in the sundress, Giordano in his khaki shorts and those white sneakers. Then two hours later, its 6:15. Giordano again, this time alone in a swimsuit. He claims he lost Gardner 15 minutes earlier while the two were snorkeling....
