It's highly possible she just kept her previous address in Alice Springs. Letters could of been going to family members or her mother. If they knew she had no fixed address they might of not minded. And Centrelink would not be pressuring her for appointments or work as she was a single mother with a young child. It's possible that as she was only just identified the payments continued or any letters went unopened and benefits were cut off after a few years. If they could not contact her they would not of been suspicious. There is hundreds of thousands receiving Centrelink. Or she may not of been receiving benefits as working. If someone else was claiming her benefits I'm sure there will be an arrest soon. But I think it's unlikely.

Yes, all certainly possible :) Just pointing out that someone can't simply give a postal address, a home address is expected... that is not to say that people always give their actual address. Like you say, Karlie may not have been claiming Centrelink payments, I recall it being said she was "off the grid".

I wondered if the earlier photo of Karlie might be when she was pregnant, carrying more weight etc.
I had a phone that was capable of good photos in 2006, used it to take pics of a new baby and then transferred to my pc.

Now that you mention pc. If Karlie had a facebook account in 2008. Would it still be possible to find out where that was created? It seems like she wasn't active online?
So why? No money? No permanent address? No internet connection?
DV? Would be interesting to find out where the Facebook account was created, and if after she could have died, someone googled her (regularly) from that pc and possibly might have found out that way that people were looking for her.

Wynarka locals relieved after breakthrough

6:10pm October 22, 2015

The small farming town of Wynarka was left rattled when a little girl's bones were discovered near a suitcase on the side of the road.

But now that Khandalyce Kiara Pearce and her mother Karlie Jade Pearce-Stevenson have been identified by police, locals feel some relief.

"I'm glad that she and her mother can now be put together and have rest," Wynarka grain farmer Rowena Wedding told AAP on Thursday.

Ms Wedding, 64, said a shrine in honour of the little girl had become unkempt recently.

Wynarka local Barry Edwards said the identification breakthrough in the case had brought some closure to the town.

"It is mostly relief that something has been found. Nobody really knew what had happened or what was going on," he said.

Alice Springs in shock over deaths

5:54pm October 22, 2015

Alice Springs appears to have closed ranks after the revelation that bodies found in NSW and South Australia were that of former resident Karlie Jade Pearce and her daughter Khandalyce.

On Thursday, friends of the family declined to comment to media, with one man saying the news had "hit too close to home".

Sharon Wilson, believed to be a cousin of Ms Pearce-Stevenson, posted on Facebook: "We have chosen to take this time to grieve, not to answer speculation or hear say ... We know the truth about our on going search for Karlie and Khandles and that's all that matters."

But another neighbour said she had "no sympathy for the family" for not trying harder to find Ms Pearce-Stevenson once she left town.

"Sympathy for losing their child, yes, but how could they have let so much time go by without reporting her missing or trying to find out where she was?

"No matter what my kids did I'd be trying to find out where they were, even if they didn't know I was doing it."

In regards to the 4 year old immunisation, Centrelink would have sent a letter 28 days after the 4th birthday as a warning that payments will cease if immunisation was not up to date. The next letter gives a second warning, and 14 days to take action. The third letter confirms Centrelink payments (FTB-A) are ceased. That's assuming she was still receiving benefits. The doctors surgery send data about immunisation into the national registry which feeds into Centrelink records.

Really? Don't plenty of people not support immunisations though for various reasons?

Homicide Squad commander Detective Superintendent Mick Willing yesterday said the pair was last seen when Karlie’s car was pulled over by police on the Stuart Highway near Coober Pedy in northern South Australia on November 8, 2008. At the time Karlie was 20, and Khandalyce two.

Did anyone read anything about why she was pulled over?

She was pulled over 7 years ago and the police have a record of it still.

Is every police stop (and rego number) recorded in a database? I know police radio in the number plate sometimes although is that all recorded and stored permanently?

Perhaps she received a ticket (speeding, unregistered car, broken taillight etc) and hence why there is a record of it?

I wouldn't think police pulling her over for a random breath test etc would be recorded on the system and accessible 7 years later.

Karlie wouldnt have had a mobile phone, not under her name any rate. Having phone and banking records will be the tell tale for police. Not to mention clothing purchases.

Why not?

Yea, you're right. I'll go back and see if it's still there or not.

Thanks purpleandgreen but that link seems to be down.

If Karlie had a mobile phone under her own name, police would have triangulated it a long time go under missing persons.

I have been following this case closely and feel relief that both angels now have names and can be laid to rest together. I really struggle with the fact that their are such monsters among us. My gut tells me that the killer knew his victims and that this wasn't a known criminal linked to other cases. My heart goes out to their families.

She wasn't known as a missing person to them though? (beyond that one week period etc)

The phone battery wouldn't last very long anyhow.

How long is the drive? And are there any border checks? Toll points or places where you would be in the picture between Wynarka en the Belanglo forest?

No - so long as you didn't speed etc then you could quite easily do the drive (10 hours or so?) without being stopped or bringing attention to yourself.

silveraue was.

Now, when you look at how both mother and child were disposed - there are stark differences, which shows how the killer/s viewed each of their victims. One buried alone, in a notorious forest. The other, kept away from her mother, in a suitcase, surrounded by her clothes and her blankie, and from the decomposition of the items, been held there in a miniature coffin for all these years.

No, LE said that the body decomposed outside of the suitcase, then was put into the suitcase only recently, soon before it was dumped.

If thats the case, something certainly decomposed amongst those clothes. I say from experience as a ex-food hider/hoarder.

There are a few state border quarantine stations in Australia. One of which is in South Australia. They are mobile quarantine stations and can operate anywhere within the state. They will stop you, check your car, caravan, motor home, luggage, etc.
