Found Deceased AUS - Tayla Spies,29, white 2017 dual cab Toyota Hilux I’d also missing. Left a hotel in Daley & travelled west to Surat, Queensland, 2 Feb 25

I wonder if any more information will come out about the car. Where exactly was it found? On private property? Is it damaged in any way? Was it locked? Was it parked normally? Were the contents in disarray? Was her phone or handbag inside? Any fingerprints on it? How much fuel in the tank? Any signs of blood?

A vehicle believed to be that of missing woman Tayla Spies was located in Noorindoo (approximately 40 kilometres northeast of Surat) yesterday afternoon, April 3.

Around 3pm police were called to a Yuleba-Surat Road property after reports a white Toyota Hilux matching Tayla’s vehicle was located.

TN - Has anyone seen tayla, last seen about 11:30am Sunday roughly 30 k from Surat Roma side, hasn’t made contact or been heard of since, she was heading too

Are you suggesting the car was found roughly (in the big scheme of things) where she was last seen? Is that the location where she met with friends, or the boyfriend? It begs the question - why was it not found sooner, given her last known movements and a large scale search? Has it been in that location the whole time? I'm keen to know if police can tell anything from the km traveled on the odometer? Was a log book kept as it was supposedly a work vehicle? I'm hoping the car leads to far more information and that she is found soon. Of course, the curious side of me wants to know all the where, when, how, why and what's of it all, but a resolution is all that's needed. Hopefully a good one for Tayla, her kids, friends and family.

Sloppy journalism again. It says she was last seen in Dalby.

If you can believe anything else in the article, it says her car was found on private property. Regardless of how remote the area might be, I'm guessing that Yuleba-Surat Road has been traveled since Feb 2nd. The road is roughly 60km as the crow flies, and appears to be a road that would be used to travel in its entirety between towns. It also seems to travel near, or through, Yuleba State Forest & Wallabella State Forest. I imagine if the car had been visible from the roadway this whole time, it would have been found by now.

So here is a map for everyone to understand why it's so confusing... like she would have driven to surat via the red line, then was seen on cctv in surat, which means she made it to surat. Then was said by TN to be seen " just before the Condamine turn off on the carnarvon hwy" but her car has been found at noorindoo... so I'm not yet sure by media reports if this is the locality or the property, but whichever one, they say 40km NE from surat on the yuleba-surat road. That's the yellow spot.

YEAH. CONFUSING. and WEIRD.

ALL journalists are lazy in their details - happens in every case

The point I was making was you asked if I was suggesting if it was the area she met with friends etc , and I was just sharing Where the car was located - somewhere on a property near Noorindoo

Yep agree!

So something weird going on there with old mates comment....
This looks to be the route the car took after leaving Surat

If it kept going it would eventually get back to Roma

Car found to the right of Yuleba Surat Hway

Probably a farmer who had no idea the car was there until he checked his property???? The area looks huge!?

So an innocent farmer finds her car on his massive property

How did it get there and where is Tayla?

I have to question that bag now that she was seen carrying....

So yeah, the blue line would be the most direct route from Surat to Roma, which is allegedly where she was last seen by her boyfriend. Yet it appears she didn't continue on that route. Perhaps she realised she left something behind either in Surat, or somewhere along the Yuleba-Surat road if she traveled that way, and tried to retrace her steps?

If she intended to go straight home from Dalby to Roma, the shortest route is 268km and takes about 3 hours, 1 minute. The other suggested route (from Google maps) is 287km and about 3 hours 12 minutes. Much of a muchness is the big scheme of things. Condamine, where she stopped for fuel, is on the slightly longer/slower route. If her next destination was Surat, the most direct route is 126km, which takes about 1 hour, 26 minutes, covers about half of the Yuleba-Surat Rd, and looks to travel through Yuleba State Forest. The other suggested option is 145km and takes about 1 hour 36 mins. Again, not a huge difference. Surat to Roma has the one suggested route - Carnarvon Hwy, which is 79km and roughly 53 minutes.

This brings us to why, after leaving Surat, did her car end up on the Yuleba-Surat Rd near Noorindoo, especially if she was allegedly well on her way home? Was the intention to head right home, or was she planning other stops and/or detours?

They have found her vehicle. They haven’t found Tayla though
How has it taken that long??? The property must be BIG. Maybe it was hidden in trees or a shed? That’s on her way home to Roma after all.

I've travelled the maranoa/western downs roads a lot, like every day of the week for decades... if I was leaving dalby to go to surat, I'd have gone 50km down the moonie hwy, take the right turn onto the surat development road, and head west. All bitumen. You literally land in surat. Simples.
If I was going from Dalby to Roma, I'd jump on the warrego. 3 hours, nice wide road, and bang. You're in Roma.
If I was going from dalby to condamine, only then would I take the condamine road.

Properties in country Queensland can be huge, thousands of acres. One property near Surat is over 17,000 acres. Farmers do not traverse their entire properties on a regular basis AFAIK.

The properties out there in forestry country are large 25,000 - 50,000 acres is not rare, with a lot of foresty. A cocky (cow farmer) could have found her vehicle after shifting cattle after recent rains into a fresh paddock then checking those cattle and doing a lick run (special cow supplement food). Cockys have little roads that go everywhere all over their properties to get to the lick troughs. The council roads go through their paddocks. They stop the cows getting out using a grid which cars can get over but cows can not.

The Moonie Hwy route you'd take, does that involve turning right onto Carnarvon Hwy on the outskirts of Surat, and taking you through town?

In your experience, if you wanted to fuel up after leaving Dalby, where would you stop for diesel fuel if A) you were heading for Surat? and B) if you were heading for Roma? Does stopping in Condamine make any sense? Is there anything else she may have stopped there for? Like someone else mentioned, a great cafe for breakfast? Another business that may have been open Sunday morning?

That's for your insight as someone with first hand knowledge of the area.

Yes correct, the surat development road takes you from the south of surat through the town, right turn through the town and out the nothern side onto the Carnarvon hwy.

I would fuel up in Dalby before leaving. Then just drive to where I was going. 300km is not all that far for a hilux, dalby fuel is cheaper than little towns in between fuel. Roma fuel is cheapest.

As for food, there's shops in every town you come to that will sell something tasty to eat... I just stop when I'm hungry ...

So, Dalby to Condamine, to Surat to Roma, is about 330km - still less than a full tank of fuel. If that was her intended route, with no further deviations. I'm not sure about the tank sizes and fuel-to-km ratio of a Hilux, and have zero knowledge of diesel vehicles. However, I agree that fueling up in a big town, where prices are cheaper, is the best option. A trip of that length would likely not need a re-fueling.

There has been mention of the vehicle being a work vehicle and a work colleague using it. I have questions around this that I haven't found answers for, nor do I know if this is the truth. Who is the registered owner? (Registration has since lapsed) What is the boss/employee/colleague situation? Why was it borrowed, work or pleasure? What sort of work, as Tayla's current job - if she has one - is quite vague? If the vehicle did change hands at some point recently, where, when and how did this occur? On this note, after taking possession of the car, could it have been lower on fuel than anticipated and only noticed after leaving Dalby, requiring a pit stop to refuel at the nearest place?
