He may not have fallen back into her arms if he had met a new lady friend...
Or was just done with relationships... A much happier, peaceful place for a lot of men following this type of relationship.

It's odd that her POA/friend didn't testify. She had no Defense witnesses except herself. Very telling.
Do you believe that EP's FB friends provided all evidence available, or held back?

I know that they didn't provide all evidence. The majority refused to cooperate. They were scared off by one of Erin's friends (the POA) castigating them for not being on her side.

Only 4 cooperated, out of 10 or so, and only under duress.

I totally get this. A relationship with a narcissist usually puts you off completely.

The four pillars of the prosecution's closing argument

By Judd Boaz

Today, crown prosecutor Nanette Rogers SC outlined the case against Erin Patterson.

Dr Rogers told the jury that Erin Patterson employed four deceptions over the course of several months, leading to the deaths of three of her relatives.

The prosecutions says these were:

1.The fabricated cancer claim that Ms Patterson told her guests when she invited them to the meal
2.The lethal doses of poison that Dr Rogers says she "secreted in the home-cooked beef Wellingtons"
3.The illness that Ms Patterson pretended to have after the lunch to make it seem as though she also suffered from death cap poisoning
4.The sustained cover-up Ms Patterson embarked on to "conceal the truth" after the lunch
During the proceedings, Dr Rogers outlined each of these alleged deceptions, at time pointing to what she referred to as "obvious" lies made by Ms Patterson.

Dr Rogers was part-way through examining the fourth alleged deception before court adjourned, and will continue her closing argument tomorrow.
Structure of a debate - Tell people what you are going to argue, then argue the details, then summarise what you argued. We are still in Phase 1 (Telling people what is going to be argued.)

Erin turned me off true crime friendships for life. 😱

Rogers says:

How could she possibly think the hassle of taking them out of school was a reason to disregard all the medical advice about the risk to their lives?
Maybe not the “doting mother” she claimed to be.

If I had children and I was told their lives were in grave danger and they needed to be hospitalised for their safety -I would probably ring the school, ring the ambulance service and meet the kids at the arrival of the ambulance(s).

It’s life or death; right? As a parent you step up accordingly.

IMO

I think that by the time Dr Rogers has finished, there should be no doubt in the jurors' minds of her having done everything that she's been accused of.

I don't know how the defence will attempt to counter that.

The judge will remind the jury that their job is determine guilt or not beyond reasonable doubt.

Without a clear motive being established, I can imagine some jurors possibly having difficulty with it being a deliberate attempt to murder the victims. That may well be a sticking point.

Good morning! Dectechtive, I'm curious about her job history re: her personality. I assume to be an air traffic controller, you need more than your CV and a two-hour class, and it seems an odd job to do all the training for, then leaving after a short tenure. Did EP typically get gung-ho on something, then quickly lose interest? I understand if X job pays $50/hour and another X job pays $60, that job-hopping makes sense. But I'm finding it hard to understand the through line from a job like air traffic controller to local magazine editing, to thoughts of going into nursing. Especially since she'd also go on frequent cross-country camping trips with Simon in between. In your opinion, was this just the actions of someone with familial wealth who could afford to behave like this, or was she the type of person who jumped ship as soon as someone/something became unpleasant/disagreeable? I've seen this from people who have trouble getting along with other people's systems of doing things in a workplace and I'm wondering if EP was the same way.

To be an air traffic controller, a person has to go through a rigorous screening process and it takes a long time training. Also it makes a difference if she was working for commercial airlines or the military but often after the training, there's a requirement to commit for a few years.

I guess she's a free agent and if she didn't enjoy or got into some form of conflict or such then it's her right to swap careers. Maybe she just never found anything that held her attention long term but nursing of all things, I personally don't believe that - is there any proof of this story or is it something she's said to make herself appear worthy, humble and likeable?

Many things to zero in from today's closing testimony, but I want to pay close attention to this (BBM):

The prosecutor then pivots to a claim from Ms Patterson that her diarrhoea symptoms forced her to go to the toilet in the bushes by the side of a highway.

Ms Patterson alleged this occurred while driving her son from Leongatha to Tyabb for a flying lesson the day after the lunch.

"[Her son] did not refer to any such stop occurring on the trip to Tyabb. He was sitting in the front passenger seat," Dr Rogers says.

"We suggest that if his mother had to make an emergency toilet stop on the side of the road that is something he would recall [when asked]."

I think this is key, and actually a great example of the thoroughness of the prosecution's argument. If I were a 14-year-old and my mum had pulled over to take a dump owing to her 'explosive diarrhoea', you'd bet I'd remember such an occasion. I can't imagine lying that it hadn't happened to the police, either. What I admire about the prosecution's closing statements the most is that they are logical and each argument flows well to the next. I hope they make an impression upon the jurors' minds because this is an excellent way to do it, IMO.

Dr Rogers is definitely lurking on WS, IMO 😂
100% as are the media and, dare say it, detectives. I have suspected this in a number of other cases, with the Ristevski investigation coming to mind. Very early discussions amongst WSers then popped up as the new strategy/lines of investigation followed up by police.

Her main supporter is bringing her clothing - she is also her POA (Power of attorney). I wonder why she wasn't a defence witness.... :/
I wondered who was taking her in clothing.

“She recalled dates, evidence and details as she was asked questions over several days,” she said.
“She could even recall that April 18, 2023, was a Friday and not Monday as I had put to her.
Oh my gosh, well played Dr Rogers! Erin's desire to nit pick to the n-th degree (where she thought it suited her), is her downfall.

Apart from religious beliefs, I can't see SP being able to trust any other woman for a long time after this. I suspect he will need to focus his energy on supporting his children through the coming years of their healing and education, and his own psychological healing.

That's it for today's hearing

By Joseph Dunstan

As crown prosecutor Nanette Rogers SC begins to delve deeper into the dumping of the dehydrator after the lunch, Justice Beale declares that's a good point to wrap up the hearing for the day.

Dr Rogers will continue delivering the prosecution's closing address to the jury tomorrow.

After that, the jury will hear the closing address from defence barrister Colin Mandy SC.

Is it correct or incorrect that she went for around 5 hours? 😮 I've never seen a closing that long.
