what a strange photo
it doesn't even look like her to me (I know it is tho)
I think time behind bars has aged her. Without access to hair and beauty appointments whenever she liked, her hair has grown longer and is no doubt her natural shade now.

Patterson did not stand when the jury left the room.”

Luckily she is going to be behind bars for a very long time, because they would definitely be targets for her now. Her vengeance is insane! (Clearly!).

I wonder if they will look back into her past a bit; she may have flown under the radar until now, but there were purportedly prior attempts on Simon. Perhaps there were others, maybe even possibly successful ones.

Edit: Oops I see Sarahlou beat me to this already, excuse the repeat speculation. :)

I've been saying this since the beginning. I also think she probably has a history of hurting pets and other animals. I also wonder if there's any odd fires she was connected to.

Glad that justice was served. Peace to all of her victims.

Agree, it really didn't help their case
Narcissists think that they can snow people. Her answers were such hair-splitting semantic games, and non-truths. She apparently didn't think she'd be convicted either.

‘Erin had no expression, no reaction at all’: Outside court, a town reacts

By

“Erin had no expression, no reaction at all,” said Angela Ely, a member of the public who had attended court during the past five weeks.

Ely had not prepared for the emotion of the verdict: she felt excitement in the line to get into courtroom four, but sadness overwhelmed her when she saw others break down.

“There’s no winners. The kids, it’s so sad,” she said.

Debbie Oldham, from Traralgon, said it would’ve been a shock either way.

Sitting in the court when the verdict was handed down, she said she thought she was guilty in the beginning, but was impressed with the defence response.

“Their closing arguments were impressive and persuasive, got me from thinking guilty to sitting on the fence.”

How the world’s media outlets reported the verdict

Erin Patterson’s trial, which concluded almost two years after the fatal lunch, has attracted global interest. Here’s how some of the world’s leading media outlets reported the guilty verdicts:

Reuters: The 10-week trial attracted huge global interest, with media descending on Court 4 at the Latrobe Valley law courts in Morwell, the nearest court to Patterson’s home where she had requested to be tried, despite being warned of lengthy delays. State broadcaster ABC’s daily podcast on proceedings was consistently among the most popular in Australia during the trial, while several documentaries on the case are already in production.

AP: The jury in the Supreme Court trial in Victoria state returned a verdict after six days of deliberations, following a ... trial that gripped Australia. Patterson will be sentenced at a later date.

The Telegraph, London: One shopkeeper (from Loch near where Patterson foraged for mushrooms), who did not want to be named, sighed. “It’s been very hard to read for a lot of us.” With the trial over, they said, “Everyone can then focus on what matters – that we’ve lost three locals who, by all accounts, were very much loved. In Korumburra Baptist Church, where survivor Ian Wilkinson still takes the weekly Sunday service at 10.30am, a different message awaits visiting media or curious passersby. Patterson, he said, was working for Airservices at the same time that a colleague’s food was tampered with, but no evidence could be found to substantiate the suspicion that Patterson was involved.

The colleague, the source said, discovered a blade from a pencil sharpener in a banana.
My God.

Patterson is their Dad's name ...
It is, but it likely leaves a bad taste in the mouths of those around Leongatha. There should be no shame in it, but there will be stigma. To be fair, changing their names and moving interstate would not be a crazy move for their future.

Patterson found guilty

Judge praises the jury

Justice Christopher Beale has thanked the jury for their service.

“A week or two ago I expressed my heartfelt thanks, I repeat those thanks today,” he said.

“You have been an exceptional jury.

“You have remained in good spirits even though the trial went way longer than believed.”

They have been discharged from jury service for 15 years.

Jury have exited the court

The jury have left the court after delivering their verdict.

Patterson reacts to verdict

She stared ahead and faced forward, while her defence barrister Colin Mandy leaned back in his chair.

Patterson did not stand when the jury left the room.

7NEWS reporter Estelle Griepink gives details from inside the court room

7NEWS reporter Estelle Griepink has given details about the atmosphere inside the court room as Patterson’s verdict was read.

“It was a stunning moment being there in the courtroom,” she said.

“I was sitting just about a metre or so away from Erin Patterson as she sat in the dock. And when the jury came in, you really couldn’t tell what they were about to say.

“Some of them looked quite sombre, others seemed to have a little bit more light-heartedness to them, but they handed down those verdicts, guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty and Erin Patterson - I got a good look at her as they read out each of those charges - She didn’t show much reaction.

“She just stared straight ahead and she was nodding, but she didn’t have tears. She didn’t have an outburst. So it was a very interesting moment to be a part of.”

It feels like a lifetime ago, but her taking the stand was truly a disastrous decision on her part.

Not only did she get herself caught up in lies, but she just came across as pedantic and like she was trying to answer carefully rather than truthfully.

Where Patterson will be taken now she has been found guilty

Erin Patterson will soon be taken from the Victorian Supreme Court in Morwell to the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in Ravenhall.

The maximum-security women’s only correctional facility is where Patterson has been since November 2023.

The facility is located around 200km away from the Morwell court where Patterson was found guilty of murder and attempted murder.

It can now be revealed that throughout the trial, Patterson would be brought from the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre on Monday mornings and not return until Friday afternoons.

During the week, Patterson slept in police cells adjoining the court precinct in Morwell.

I am quite certain that if she were found not guilty, she would continue with the poisoning, hoping to eventually get Simon and anyone else she didn't like

Thank god for today's guilty verdict
💯. She's an evil, dangerous serial offender.

  • #735
Neither did I until the defence had their go! I thought they did a decent job tbh at sewing doubt.
To believe the defense's version of events, you'd have to accept that Erin suffered the most improbable set of coincidences ever. She somehow managed to be the sole unaffected person at the lunch yet all the circumstances made her appear incredibly guilty.

I'd like to think so, but if it were me, I'd want to watch her face first hand and stare her down. But then again, I'm not a nice Christian.

I wonder if he was able to watch a live stream somehow? Obviously not with the children in the same room, but to see and hear what happened, and perhaps to compose himself before telling the kids.
I never got that chance to with my brother's murderer. I desperately wanted to...

It was such a feminine murder..... either it was Erin, or it was some other woman... The gathering of the mushrooms, the recipe hunting to incorporate mushrooms into a meal for guests . the preparation , drying the mushrooms , the rolling out of the puff pastry , folding the mushrooms around the fillet steak..... setting the table, sending out the invitations, choosing the plates, serving it up ..... waiting for the effect to take place ( I have no doubt she waiting for the call to say her chosen victims were ill ) no bloke would be bothered, he'd just hit them over the head ..

A correct verdict, and because she pled not guilty , she gets no discount on her sentence.. Pleading guilty gets you a 15% discount.. Erin gambled on her belief that she was terrifically persuasive, she'd probably believed this all her ridiculous life.

  • #738
Not surprising..

Honestly what a nightmare she will be in prison. Everyone will have to be so wary of her. Prison guards included.

  • #739
Justice has thankfully been done. Erin now knows her evil actions, lies, deceit etc has been seen through. She is a murderer 100%.
Thank you to the Jury for taking their time and delivering their guilty verdict.
