That bathroom stop didn't even look like 9 seconds to me!
Agree. More like 4.5 seconds!

Erin passes 2 bins on the way in to shop which would be perfect for a poo bag containing tissues.

Is it my imagination that her handbag looks to have a more “heavy” swing on the way in?

Interesting.

I speculate there was a “If I can’t have them, no one can” mentality behind this crime. The same thing that drives many male family annihilators to kill partners and children.

The first police interview transcript details how much EP wanted SP’s parents in her life because hers had died.

We can now look back and agree she spoke those words with full awareness that she had caused them to become fatally ill/die.

She even states SP was jealous of her connection with his parents.

That’s her motive. She didn’t have family so SP will suffer the same fate.
OR
She didn’t like seeing her son bonding with grandad (tutoring) and possibly resenting possibly her son becoming more religious, or/and seeking grandad for advice or as a mentor ? She would be losing control of him
IMO, of course.

It’s absolutely crazy to think if her original plan had worked her children would have been fatherless with her rotting away in jail.

Just imagine wanting to put your children though such god awful pain.

Well, I think her plan was that Simon and the others all die, and she flits off into the sunset to live happily ever after with sole control of her children. I think she was shocked that didn't happen.

I'm aware this is getting into the realm of speculation, but I would not be surprised if she was a serial killer or potential serial killer (either previous attempted kills i.e. Simon's coma, possibly even past successful kills, and likely future kills). I saw someone post that she wouldn't pose any future danger since her target was her ex and his family, but I think someone with that mindset is a danger who anyone who might inadvertently create a situation that Erin feels wronged by. Which could be anyone with contact with her. I don't believe in harsh prison sentences most of the time but some people just pose too much of a risk to the public to be able to be free. (Having said that, the photos of the prison cells are nicer than many places I've lived!)

Beef Wellington leftovers

By Mikaela Ortolan

These are a collection of photos that were shown to Dr David Lovelock while he was giving evidence during the trial.

Dr Lovelock specialises in plant virology and bacteriology.

The photos are of leftover beef Wellington that was collected from Erin Patterson's home after the fatal lunch.

The leftovers were sent off for testing to determine if there were traces of death cap mushroom toxins.

Traces of a toxin present in death cap mushrooms were later detected in them.

They look very dry, don't they! No wonder she needed that extra packet gravy.

Why would she still have Gail's fruit platter, and the gravy, in her fridge a week later, on the 5th when police searched her house? It feels like she kept it for a reason.

The public health investigators asked her to keep it - it's referenced in the police interview transcript.

From the moment the bathroom door is fully closed until it opens again, there was 3 seconds. That was barely enough time to toss something in the trash.

She went in, looked at herself in the mirror and came out. She didn’t even have time to wash her hands.

I think I'm àbout to go on a diet, and a vegan one at that!
Ive been holding on to this recipe for a mushroom Wellington for when the weather's not quite as hot as it is now. Gift link (I'm a subscriber and the NYT allows gift links).

They are vile. He makes my skin crawl and I cannot switch channels fast enough when I come across their show on the radio. Send them back to Sydney!
God, I can't believe they're still going. I was last in Australia in 2007 and they were controversial then.

I am wondering how long it will be before we get a ton of dirt on her past.

Simons mystery illnesses is the main one but has she tried to poison other people to a lesser extent who have crossed her?!

It just seems quite extreme to poison 4 people with 3 then unfortunately dying without having tried it previously.

IMO charging Sandilands with contempt is amusing. His entire life has been a continuum of contempt for anything you care to name.

I agree.

My guess on why she went ahead was simply that he pulled out too late for her to cancel. Coming up with an excuse that the kids had to believe as well was too much at such short notice. *Eta - even for her....
I think she still thought he might show.
In fact, I believe I read somewhere that it was only when the others arrived that they confirmed he wasn't attending.

I had a thought today about how maybe Simon was the original intended victim with the others as collateral. However, when he pulled out she had got herself excited by the prospect of poisoning them that she felt a compulsion to still go ahead with it. Her being a thrill killer is a possibility.

Obviously, just a theory with no evidence, but a thought to add to the others.

@Eloise
Thanks so much for providing AIC's definition of mass murderer.

And your phrasing--- "unwashed masses."
So many journalists, newspapers and broadcasters are referring to her as a mass murderer however. If Ian had of died, technically she would be. Being a triple murderer is shocking enough...

I imagine she is really furious that none of the jurors believed her. In many ways I see a very great likeness with EP and Lucy Letby, the serial killer of babies, in that she also took the witness stand, and answered the prosecutor's questions as if she was smarter than him, didn't show any strong emotion or anger about being accused, had no real insight into how she was perceived, as if she was playing a high level game of chess, and she had spent her life manipulating others and getting away with it. After the first guilty verdicts she refused to come back out of her cell to hear the rest, and refused to attend her sentencing. She was also a poisoner, injecting air, milk and insulin into babies to kill them. I think it's a very specific type of killer, operating in the shadows with a feeling of superiority and thinking they are too clever to get caught. That is why I feel it must really sting them to be unmasked, disbelieved and convicted.
