That's my understanding also.
But if dad wanted to take Gus, he would have organised it with the mum and not just randomly take him from the sandpit, right??
Because he's got full parental rights, so when he has Gus it's at his discretion?
Maybe Jess did call him to let him know his son was missing, and his phone may have been on do not disturb if he was sleeping.

I am not certain that this is a fact. We don't know who may have tried to call the dad, or even if they successfully reached him. The arrival of the police at his home does not exclude the possibility of phone calls.

Father was angry that it was Police, not the in-laws, who notified him about son's disappearance.
And that it happened so late.
So I guess he was on phone all the time.

Respectfully, I think the expression "holed up" has connotations that perhaps may have been unintended.
If I were to have suspicion, and I'm not saying I do, but if I did, the focus for me wouldn't be on dad. I don't think Gus was 'taken' from that property. I don't think Gus wandered off into the bush....and I don't even think Gus was playing on that sand/dirt pile. I think one must look back prior to the young lad's reported disappearance for answers. That's just me, and it's my opinion, admittedly potentially being completely wrong.

As far as we know, but we don't have the full picture, imo. And I do NOT believe the father took Gus. I was just saying that LE, in immediate aftermath, would have to be open to that possibility.

When a woman goes missing or is found dead, it seems that in many western countries and quite possibly Australia, New Zealand as well initial suspicions are on her husband or partner. It's possible that it's similar for a missing child when one parent doesn't live on the property - that this parent gets checked out by the police asap.

I don't think Dad took him either. I was just saying that LE would have to consider that as a possibility on that first night he went missing. He would be an automatic suspect until cleared. IMO

Yes, that was my point. When a child goes missing, a custody battle is often the motive behind it. LE is always going to look to the other parent if they are not in the home. IMO

I would think yes, but maybe it's actually more of a moral "requirement" than a legal one.
I’m with you on this I don’t think the dad has taken him.
If Gus wandered off surely he would have been found given the extensive searches .
I think if he was abducted someone living in the area would’ve noticed dust clouds from a vehicle.
It seems suspicious to me too but I may be wrong

I don't speak for them but I assume its because they want to avoid the inevitable transphobia and also probably the judgment of their unusual living situation of the dad and mum still being in a relationship but living apart. Also its not like he went missing in a city where getting a photo out there helps in the public recognising the child; there's nobody really out there and nobody to make an appeal to.
