"The father, 50, was the shooter killed at the scene. The son, aged 24, is in a critical but stable condition.
Lanyon also confirmed investigators were not looking for a third offender.

Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said search warrants were carried out at Bonnyrigg and Campsie in connection with the investigation into the attack.

He said it had been confirmed the 50-year-old gunman was a licensed firearms holder.

He said police were satisfied they had gathered six firearms from the scene and following the raids.
"Ballistics and forensic investigation will determine whether those six firearms are the six that were licensed to that man," he said.

Premier Chris Minns has confirmed that the death toll of 16 includes the shooter killed by police."

"Minns has urged people who want to help in the aftermath of the devastating attack to give blood.

"If you're looking for something practical to do, you could give blood," he said.

"We saw extraordinary scenes from New South Wales public hospitals last night, emergency departments at the drop of a hat were in the process of saving scores of lives.

"They did an incredible job but they need your help."

Minns said the next 24 hours would be the best time to donate in "public spiritedness". "

This is interesting, as Australia has some of tightest gun control laws in the world. Before you can get a licence you need to show that you've got a genuine reason to own the firearms, of which self-defence isn't one.

Please don't think that some poor behaviour by a tiny handful of radicals reflects any sort of animosity towards Jews by Australian people. We welcome those from all religious backgrounds, and we will welcome you when you're ready to travel.

Perfectly said. All Australians and our visitors deserve to be safe and respected. The vast majority of Australians - of all religions and races - support this aim.

Yes, after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 (when 35 were killed) our weapons laws changed - this is our first large scale shooting since then.

Gunmen were father and son

The two gunmen who shot dead 15 people and injured dozens others were father and son, NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon has confirmed

Naveed Akram, 24, suffered critical injuries and remains in hospital under police guard

His 50-year-old father was shot dead by police.

Police later raided two homes in Campsie and Bonnyrigg Heights in Sydney's south-west.

The pair were staying at the Campsie address.

NSW Police Commissioner Lanyon said there was no third attacker.

'There were two offenders involved in yesterday's incident,' he told reporters on Monday morning.

'The offenders are a 50-year-old and 24-year-old male who are father and son.'

The father is a licensed firearms holder who held six firearms, which were all recovered at the scene in Bondi.

'He had six firearms licensed to him,' Commissioner Lanyon said.

'We are satisfied that we have six firearms from the scene yesterday, but also as a result of the search warrant at the Campsie address.'

'Ballistics and forensic investigation will determine those six firearms are the six that were licenced to that man, but also they were used in the offence yesterday at Bondi.'

So I have to wonder, what reason did he give to apply for a license? Because whatever it was, was clearly a lie. And how many others have done the exact same thing? Ironically, my son and I were just talking about this yesterday, and how the gun laws in Canada are pretty strict as well - and claiming a gun is for self defense will get you rejected every time, so many applicants just lie about why they're applying and claim it's for hunting.

I'd like to know how this father and son could have planned for this attack, without knowledge of their close family, friends, and neighbours.

When checking that against online information, I was shocked to see that there had been a mass shooting in Croydon Park, Sydney in October of this year (2025).

This was the first I'd heard of it!

Article below says 16 injured, no deaths and implies it was triggered by the perp's ongoing mental health issues.

Those of you from Australia are so helpful to us on the thread. Please help us understand the various reasons that one would be granted a licence to have such firearms.

And the report states that he had had such licenses for 10 years. Does one have to reapply each year. Is there any process for how one is monitored or regulated.

It just feels so weird to live in such a gun-happy country and not understanding how more regulated societies conduct their processes.

I'm not overly familiar with Aussie gun laws but I'm sure they're fairly similar to ours in the UK. If you're in an approved club or have access to land to hunt on then you'll meet the requirements.

For use (only) at shooting ranges.
For pest control on farms, sheep stations, cattle stations.
For deer hunting in allowed areas.

16 dead, 40 injured following public place shooting - Bondi

Monday, 15 December 2025 06:37:21 AM

Police are continuing to investigate a mass shooting that resulted in 16 people dying and 40 people being injured in Sydney’s east yesterday evening.

About 6.40pm (Sunday 14 December 2025), emergency services were called to Bondi Beach, following reports of a public place shooting.

Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command, surrounding commands and specialist police immediately responded and located two men using long arms to fire into crowds of people.

Multiple officers exchanged fire with the two men with two officers – a constable and probationary constable – suffering gunshot wounds.

During the incident one shooter – a 50-year-old man – was shot by police and died at the scene.

The other shooter – a 24-year-old man – suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard.

As a result of the incident 14 people died at the scene and 42 people – including four children – were taken to hospitals across Sydney

Police have since been told two other people – a 10-year-old girl and a 40-year-old man – have since died in hospital.

Those who died are yet to be formally identified; however, police believe their ages range between 10 and 87-years-old.

Five people remain in critical conditions with the others remaining in serious and stable conditions.

Both officers remain in serious but stable conditions.

A significant crime scene has been established closing Bondi Beach and surrounding roads, and detectives from the Joint Counter Terrorism Team have commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following initial inquiries, detectives have located and seized three firearms from the scene. They will all undergo forensic examination.

Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au Information is managed on a confidential basis. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.

The man who snuck up behind the shooter and took his gun is beyond heroic (and was later shot twice himself, presumably by the other shooter) and THEN someone threw a rock at the gunman as he ran off. That footage starts at about 55 seconds.

NSW health have provided an update on the status of patients transferred to Sydney hospitals after last night’s attack.

Police confirmed earlier that 14 died at the scene, and another two people died in hospital overnight – bringing the death toll to 16.

One of those who died overnight was a child, who passed away at the Sydney Children’s Hospital. The other person who died overnight passed away at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

  • 12 patients are in a stable condition at Prince of Wales Hospital
  • One patient is in a critical condition and two are in a stable condition at St George Hospital
  • One patient is in a stable condition at Sutherland Hospital
  • One patient is in a critical condition at Sydney Eye Hospital
  • Three patients are in a critical condition, five patients are in a stable condition, and two patients were treated and discharged at St Vincent’s Hospital
  • Three patients are in a critical but stable condition, one patient is in a critical condition, one patient is in a stable condition, and one is yet to be assessed at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
  • One patient is in a critical condition and two patients are in a stable condition at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
  • One patient is in a critical but stable condition and one is in a stable condition at Royal North Shore Hospital
  • Two patients are in a stable condition at Liverpool Hospital

Wow that is a very wide area of hospitals that patients were sent too, all the way out to Liverpool!!

I wonder how many ambulances were "ramped" at Emergency departments & hence "unavailable" ??

Still 7 people in a critical condition.

Thinking of all the health care workers who are working in a very broken , beyond over stretched health system & are expected to just cope everyday, without a mass casualty event like this happening.

A 27-year-old French national - Dan Elkayam - has been identified by President Emmanuel Macron as one of the victims ... an engineer who arrived here two years ago.
