Shooters are father and son.
Wow.
Wow.
Blimey. Didn't expect that!Shooters are father and son.
Wow.
This is interesting, as Australia has some of tightest gun control laws in the world. Before you can get a licence you need to show that you've got a genuine reason to own the firearms, of which self-defence isn't one."The father, 50, was the shooter killed at the scene. The son, aged 24, is in a critical but stable condition.
Lanyon also confirmed investigators were not looking for a third offender.
Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said search warrants were carried out at Bonnyrigg and Campsie in connection with the investigation into the attack.
He said it had been confirmed the 50-year-old gunman was a licensed firearms holder.
He said police were satisfied they had gathered six firearms from the scene and following the raids.
"Ballistics and forensic investigation will determine whether those six firearms are the six that were licensed to that man," he said.
Premier Chris Minns has confirmed that the death toll of 16 includes the shooter killed by police."

Please don't think that some poor behaviour by a tiny handful of radicals reflects any sort of animosity towards Jews by Australian people. We welcome those from all religious backgrounds, and we will welcome you when you're ready to travel.

So I have to wonder, what reason did he give to apply for a license? Because whatever it was, was clearly a lie. And how many others have done the exact same thing? Ironically, my son and I were just talking about this yesterday, and how the gun laws in Canada are pretty strict as well - and claiming a gun is for self defense will get you rejected every time, so many applicants just lie about why they're applying and claim it's for hunting. This is interesting, as Australia has some of tightest gun control laws in the world. I'd like to know how this father and son could have planned for this attack, without knowledge of their close family, friends, and neighbours.07:22
Gunmen were father and son
The two gunmen who shot dead 15 people and injured dozens others were father and son, NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon has confirmed
Naveed Akram, 24, suffered critical injuries and remains in hospital under police guard
His 50-year-old father was shot dead by police.
Police later raided two homes in Campsie and Bonnyrigg Heights in Sydney's south-west.
The pair were staying at the Campsie address.
NSW Police Commissioner Lanyon said there was no third attacker.
'There were two offenders involved in yesterday's incident,' he told reporters on Monday morning.
'The offenders are a 50-year-old and 24-year-old male who are father and son.'
The father is a licensed firearms holder who held six firearms, which were all recovered at the scene in Bondi.
'He had six firearms licensed to him,' Commissioner Lanyon said.
'We are satisfied that we have six firearms from the scene yesterday, but also as a result of the search warrant at the Campsie address.'
'Ballistics and forensic investigation will determine those six firearms are the six that were licenced to that man, but also they were used in the offence yesterday at Bondi.'

When checking that against online information, I was shocked to see that there had been a mass shooting in Croydon Park, Sydney in October of this year (2025).Yes, after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 (when 35 were killed) our weapons laws changed - this is our first large scale shooting since then.
I'm not overly familiar with Aussie gun laws but I'm sure they're fairly similar to ours in the UK. If you're in an approved club or have access to land to hunt on then you'll meet the requirements. So I have to wonder, what reason did he give to apply for a license? Because whatever it was, was clearly a lie. And how many others have done the exact same thing? Those of you from Australia are so helpful to us on the thread. Please help us understand the various reasons that one would be granted a licence to have such firearms.
I guess you never know what goes on behind closed doorsI'd like to know how this father and son could have planned for this attack, without knowledge of their close family, friends, and neighbours.
