This is something I've been thinking about today. So many people seem to view him a some kind of bada$$ vigilante hero. I worry about copycats, i worry about people reaching out to him and aiding in his war against LAPD, I worry about this growing into some kind of people vs government. The not knowing where this guy is coupled with scared cops is making me anxious. Hope that makes sense, I just needed to get those thoughts out of my head.

I have seen some Facebook groups supporting him and people on Twitter cheering for him. :furious:

Heljena, I believe that the "shoulder weapon" that was used was a rifle or shotgun...it wouldn't have been a Manpad or SAM, as the destruction would have been far greater. It was a bullet firing weapon, and likely "simply" a rifle (he is known to have an "assault type weapon", which usually means a rifle that can be set to automatic).

I read he had a .50 calaber rifle. I looked them up today and theirs rifles to machine guns that are that size. I even read that the bullets can be 5" long. An article a couple days ago about Dorner even mentions the 5" bullets. The bullets alone look scarey. No need to wear a bullet proof vest as it most likely will go through one. chills.

Oh and an article today mentioned the burned guns in the truck on the mountain but they said he might have 30 or so with him. That's a lot to carry if so.

The more I am reading about this case, the more I'm wondering, what the heck is going on.

Dorner manhunt: LAPD gunfire hits Torrance homes, cars ( link )
February 8, 2013 | 3:55 pm

Early Thursday morning, police officers spotted a pickup truck similar to Dorner's and fired numerous shots. But Dorner was not in the vehicle. Instead, cops shot at the truck of a mother-daughter team delivering newspapers in what LAPD Chief Charlie Beck has called a tragic case of mistaken identity.

[...]

Merkosky said she was in the shower when she heard what she thought were her kids banging on the bathroom door. She came out, only to realize that it was gunshots. She estimated hearing about 60 shots.

[...]

After the incident, police ordered residents to stay indoors, but from his window Goo could see dozens of yellow markers on the ground used to mark the stray bullets. While out surveying the damage, he counted five bullets in his entryway, a bullet hole in his garage door, two bullets hits his silver Lexus and another bullet grazed the hood of his Oldsmobile.

[...]

Goo, who normally works the early shift, said he has noticed the women driving down the streets without their headlights on. Still, he's baffled by the incident.

"How do you mistake two Hispanic women, one who is 71, for a large black male?" he asked.
Seems like they're on a find and execute mission as opposed to a track and capture mission. Which, imho, should be cause for concern. And, hopefully, will be fully investigated by an impartial 3rd party once this whole thing is over.

How exactly would you "capture him?" You should read his manifesto, he isn't planning on being captured. He has already allegedly killed a cop. I don't envision "capturing" him as a possibility at all.

In addition to the cop's daughter and her fiance, he's already killed one cop and attempted to kill 2 others. You can bet LE wants him dead!!!

Even if LE didn't want him dead, it's really very obvious he isn't going to be captured alive. He makes it very clear in his "manifesto." He even expects they will study his brain.

Yeah, this Torrance shooting. I've read Dorner also shot & wounded two. Also another article popped up where a woman said her car near where the two women in the blue pickup were shot at, had bullet holes. She lived right by where it happened. hmmm shoot out with Dorner? In Torrance that day?

Of course they do. However, they swore an oath to serve, protect, and uphold the law. And shooting up neighborhoods is not protecting, serving, or upholding the law. It's putting innocents at risk. Moreover, if they go straight for the kill, which they appear to be, as opposed to try capturing him alive, they're engaging in vigilante justice... they're putting themselves above the law. And that's a dangerous road to start down.

Former Police Psychologist Analyzes Christopher Dorner’s Manifesto
http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loc...-Christopher-Dorners-Manifesto-190306351.html

“It’s hard to put a label on this without knowing him, but what we know is we have a man who is completely out of control who has given up on life, whose self-esteem is tiny. He’s trying to cover it up. [He has] been extraordinarily disappointed and hurt, in his mind, by life,” Dr. Mantell told NBC 7.

For 10 years, Dr. Mantell was the chief psychologist for the San Diego Police Department and then later for all law enforcement in the county.

According to Dr. Mantell, the seeds of anger appear to have been festering inside Dorner for a long time.

“Ultimately, anger is built around the belief that you must treat me the way I insist. So, if I come to you and complain about something, you must take that seriously. After all, I have a good name,” explained Mantell.

“When they don’t, that starts to build anger and when it becomes a psychiatric illness, which is what I believe we are seeing here, that is the kind of demand, insistence and expectation – D.I.E. to the max,” he added.

Interesting analysis. Based on it, he fits the profile of a mass murderer, someone who is smoldering with rage. He shares traits most likely similar to Seung-Hui Cho, James Holmes, and Adam Lanza as they are driven by revenge and bottle up their anger as they feel persecuted. I would not be surprised if he also shares traits similar to Casey Anthony, Lori Drew, and Diane Downs as he has low self-esteem.
A hedonistic spree killer who has Major Depression with psychotic features

So he is armed to the teeth and it's clear he isn't planning on being captured alive. If you think you could capture him alive, maybe you can volunteer your services, cause I really can't figure out how police would capture him alive.

At this point, I don't know if there is a safe way to even capture him alive to be honest. The chances of him going down without a fight are slim to none. At this point for their safety, due to him having military and police background I don't think there is any way to do it. He's already shot at and killed. They at this point are at a shoot to kill standpoint. No doubt about it, and I cannot blame them for that.

This is only commentary towards the actual suspect, and not civilians. Please don't be confused as to thinking I believe they should shot others. They should not, but with him, yes.

Killing this maniac is not 'vigilante' justice, imo. He has already CONFESSED to these murders beforehand. In fact, he boasted about them. He deserves to be put out of his wretched misery, imo.

The only person on a "find and execute" mission is Christopher Dorner!

He wrote very clearly in his manifesto on what he'd do to a cop who tries to stop him in traffic. I don't envision any safe way of capturing him whatsoever.

I hope they find him tonight and that he's stuck on the mountain. One way or another he will be contained!

  • #917
I also remembered that a .50 calaber rifle can shoot extremely far, 3000' plus. A sniper's weapon. Handy in war. Unless the LE sneak up on him, a shootout might just happen. Or they spot him with a .50 first...

This is not pretty at all. It will end in a life being taken by his own doings (highly doubt unless someone can talk him out of his superiority high he's on, like mom) or suicide by cop which is what I think he wants so he will go down in his own eyes as a hero/martyr. I'm afraid other lives will be in danger too when it happens. Very worried about that.

Someone posted that the highways into the Big Bear Mountain area are guarded. Can he not walk out of the Big Bear Mountain area through forests that are not near the blocked highways? Someone who wanted to escape LE would have already walked out of that area, stolen a car, and fled. So, why is he staying in that area? Scary.

It's downhill, but it's 7,000 ft. up. Temps are near zero, snowing.

It's not 100% sure he's still in the Big Bear area. They are finding tracts and have scents being picked up by dogs but that could be yesterday's trail. If he is there, he has shelter I believe. I think they will find him soon. At least I hope so, just worry about the takedown.
