So the guns were purchased with $5000 pocket money sent to ER by his parents and grandparents. Was his entire lifestyle supported by his parents? Tuition? Rent? Insurance, clothes, food, etc? Did he have a job of any kind?

From what I read from HIM, he helped his fathers friend build a staircase and worked only 1 day in a custodial job before quitting. So, my answer would be no, he had no other job and yes, his parents were supporting him. I have no other link to support that, though.

His first 'job' was helping out his dad's friend build a spiral staircase that lasted for 3 weeks. His second job was what he called a "menial custodial job" that involved cleaning. He was apparently so beneath that job that he only lasted a day.

He didn't even last a full day on the second job. The only reason I believe he even finished helping with the staircase was because he was trying to fool his parents. Plus, he was probably being paid very handsomely under the table for the work.

I found it very interesting that ER was afraid to drive and get his license, and didn't do so until he was 20 IIRC. He failed his written and road tests twice. Riding his bike, the bus or walking seemed to be his main form of transportation unless his parent drove him or a friend did.

Was the fear of driving because it had too many variables? I am curious to know what the rationale is. TIA

Believe me I probably wouldn't have watched either, but the manifesto wasn't public knowledge when this first happened, only these youtube postings. I even skipped through a lot of the manifesto because it, like his voice bored me to tears ! ZZZZZZZZZ

I don't have a problem with anyone else who did watch them. I personally couldn't stomach any more of HIS repetitive <personal modslip>.

He doesn't fool me with his act. And that is all it is... an act.

I didn't get my license until I was 19, but I was in a horrible car accident the same day I got my learners permit when I turned 15. My mom was driving me to my dentist appointment and we were sitting at a light and someone going 65mph slammed into the back of us and we were crushed underneath a semi.

Even at 35, I still have bouts of extreme anxiety while driving.

But, I personally think ER just didn't want to do the work it took to get a license. Was he given the car before or after he got his license? Being handed a car would be an incentive to get a drivers license. I don't remember?

IMO, he was afraid of almost everything. A change in seating arrangements, walking in a college class, it all seemed a big deal...this doesn't surprise me.

Let me preface this by saying that I am NOT blaming his parents or anyone else for the murders and assaults committed by ER. I seriously refuse to play his game by blaming everyone else for HIS actions.

I do wonder, though, if all of the material indulgence didn't serve to fan the flames of his superiority complex. Maybe I am just so far removed from the Cali upper class lifestyle that they seemed to live that I don't relate. But yeah, I don't.

In the same way those who fought on the plane on 9/11. Just because they're women doesn't mean they're physically incapable of stopping ER. He missed with quite a number of shots when he opened fire on the streets. I'm glad he didn't manage to get into the sorority house but I don't think he'd have managed to successfully pick them off one by one.

The perps on a plane on 9/11 were not armed with semi automatic guns. Also the plane went down and they are all dead.
I don't know what else to say on the matter except it's comparing apples and oranges.

In January, Rodger accused Hong of stealing three candles, valued at US$22, said Joyce Dudley, Santa Barbara County district attorney.

When Hong said he didn’t know where the candles were, Rodger performed a citizen’s arrest and called 911. Sheriff’s deputies found the candles on Hong’s bed. He was arrested and charged with a petty theft infraction.


I have a strong feeling that CYH never stole those candles at all and that ER planted them on his bed.

Yes, parents were supporting his whole lifestyle. He didn't have a job.

A question that I have is: Apparently this young man's parents were supporting him. I would suppose paying his credit card bills, allowance, rent and car etc. When he was out buying three guns and all this ammunition (probably approx. $2500 or more) did it not show up in the bills? These were not cheap weapons, and not just one but three plus over 400 rounds of ammunition.

If your son has "issues" would you not scrutinize these things? If when they asked LE to do a "welfare check" back in April did they advise (or did they even know) that he had weapons?

Has anyone watched the show Parenthood? There is a preteen or young teen boy on that show with aspergers. So much of this thread has made me think of him. In the show (not sure how closely it mirrors real life) the parents seem indulgent of his behavior to me, but I believe it's because no matter what they've tried throughout his life, it never works.

My initial emotional reaction when I see a kid melting down, out of control, is always "sheesh, get a handle on your kid" but actually, I think it's often not that simple.

I always end up checking myself, and then saying a little prayer of thanks that their reality is not my reality.
