Why are we still talking about misogyny? ER killed twice his many men as women. He killed less women than Aaron Alexis, James Holmes, One L. Goh, Scott Evans Dekraai, Steven Kazmierczak, Eduardo Sencion, Cho Seung-Hu, Jared Loughner (who killed a girl and elderly women), Nidal Malik Hasan (who went on a rampage on an army base and still managed to kill more women than ER. NMH was shot by a women himself), and, of course, there's Adam Lanza.

What's more terrifying than these men's misogyny is their total indifference to whom they kill. Women, the elderly, and even children are not safe. We are all equal to them. Just bodies to add to their count. Our society has descended into the war of all against all.

I guess I'll need to raise my daughter to be like Katniss Everdeen.

[modsnip] this case involves not just mental illness and personality disorders, but also yes, misogyny and guns. The mods have ruled guns out for this thread, but ERs views on women - in his OWN WORDS, typed out as well as spoken on video - are fair game.

Some men and anti-feminists might like to hand-wave and say "no misogyny to see here, move along folks!", and you might be successful in directing this thread away from it, but thankfully there is a larger discussion going on in other places, where women's concerns and thoughts are not being dismissed so cavalierly.

I mentioned nothing about how he functioned sexually, but Interesting that that's where you took it.

What I mentioned were his views on women, views shared by the online communities he tried to take part in, as well as quite a few others.

Center named for Sandy Hook principal urges new look at student behavior

... dealt with early interventions meant to prevent violent behaviors from ever erupting. ...

... Epstein kicked off the daylong conference with a call for educators to change their approach to children with challenging behaviors. Assume that kids who don't behave well lack social skills — not that they are defiant, he said. ...

... They tell the kids to change, without teaching them the skills to do it. ...

I live in an unincorporated area, Paulden, the fire department of the nearest city, Chino Valley, has a substation here. If you live in the fire district, your property taxes reflect the taxes for that service. If you aren't in the fire district, it does not. You have the choice to pay an annual fee to be covered by the FD or you can gamble that your home won't go up in flames, and no insurance company is going to give you loss protection if you aren't in the district or pay the annual fee.
The SOP out here: If the burning structure is out of the district or not on annual payment, it's toast. If there is human life at stake, the FD will do what they can to save a life, but not the structure. If it endangers a home in the fire district, FD lays down a fire line to protect that fire district covered dwelling.
Every Fall, we see 5-7 homes go up in flames down in the valley below us, when people spark up their fireplaces or wood stoves without inspecting them first. 1 or 2 are usually out of the Fire District. You won't hear anyone but the home owner crying about it. We paid our fair share, they didn't. Doesn't matter if it's a $15,000 trailer or a $450,000 house, you don't pay, you're not protected.
Our community lost 19 elite firemen last year, the Granite Mountain Hotshots. One lived just right down the road from us. No one should have a job putting their life on the line, daily, for gratis.

Exactly!

Just because it is allowed to prescribe in two states doesn't mean that all of the psychologists take the extra coursework and clinical supervision/residency requirements. Having prescriptive privileges would also mean that malpractice insurance would be VERY expensive, and not all psychologists want that liability. I certainly wouldn't.

2 out of 48 states? That is very rare.

Apparently it is NOT rare for people with no experience or training in behavioral health to argue with every single post I write here. This is exhausting. I'm done.

If you would like to notify the Mods of your training in behavioral health, please go ahead and do so.
I find all diaglogue on WS insightful and it is okay to have a bit of back and forth.
My coping skills and those of most WS-ers welcome and engage in it.
No harm no foul, Colbie.
Peace out.

I think most govt entities such as cities and towns have that they are responsible for the welfare of the citizens.

That task is dependent upon the taxes that the citizens are willing to provide. Where I live, we have no law enforcement except for sheriffs which cover hundreds of miles. We taxpayers are unwilling to spend the money for local LE.

We have a volunteer fire department. We are unwilling to pay the wages of employees.

I can go on and on. It is up to the taxpayers as to what services we will provide and at what level. i have a dirt road. People are unwilling to pay for paving, but I do have a dirt road that is maintained, so to speak.

Colbie, your posts are thoughtful and important. I think of ws as a think tank and sometimes we challenge one anothers thoughts. All opinions are important here and pertinent. Sometimes writing comes across coldly. We need behavioral health experienced views.

I can relate!!!!! "County Mounties", dirt roads ("Primitive Road" according to the county sign 2 miles from our area), did have the volunteer FD until 12 years ago................."911" only became available 10 years ago.

I maintain the "easements" (you must know about "easements" :floorlaugh:) on both of our properties and the properties between them, we have one of only 2 box scrappers in our area that can do the job.

Sorry for not quoting the original posts but...stupid Nook makes me work too hard for it sometimes.

Someone asked about masturbation. ER did actually indulge, according to his writings. Actualy, he was a little too descriptive about his first experience for my taste. Yuck.

Also, regading his roommates...he said in his writing that he would kill them so "they wouldn't be in the way". As someone else said, his roommates would have been targeted no matter who they were.

I for one have enjoyed your post and find them to be very informative.

Killed them over dollar store items!

ciao

Elliot Rodger is so petty. His pettiness is clearly seen in his manifesto whether it is throwing coffee at the two girls who did not smile at him or attempting to push them off at a party for not talking to him.

Deputies Who Made Welfare Check on UCSB Killer [ER] Cleared

... handled the call in a professional manner consistent with state law and department policy,” said [KH], a spokeswoman for the office, in a statement Saturday. ...

...
Experts have told NBC News that even if deputies had seen the videos, it would have been difficult for them to differentiate those posts from the thousands of others posted by lonely, despondent people who don’t go on to carry out killing sprees. ...

I wonder if the loud, angry phone calls ER was said to have had, coincided at all with the Welfare Check?

The videos that Rodgers had posted on YouTube at the time of the “welfare check” by sheriff’s deputies – an encounter that now seems infused with significance in the wake of his May 22 onslaught – would likely not have met the threshold for a “5150” – a section of the California Welfare and Institutions Code that allows law enforcement officials to involuntarily detain someone in a psychiatric facility for 72 hours if they are deemed a danger to themselves or others. They were far less explicit about his plans for revenge than the videos that he posted as he embarked on his final onslaught on May 22.

In the statement released Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office said the deputies April 30 visit to the Seville Road apartment that Rodger shared with two roommates occurred as the result of a call from a staffer with the county's toll-free Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health toll free access line to an emergency dispatcher with the Sheriff’s Office. It did not say who made the call to the hot line.

"Based upon the information available to them at the time, sheriff’s deputies concluded that Rodger was not an immediate threat to himself or others, and that they did not have cause to place him on an involuntary mental health hold, or to enter or search his residence," it said. “Therefore, they did not view the videos or conduct a weapons check on Rodger."

Sheriff's officials noted that a deputy called Rodger’s mother from the scene and briefed her on what they had found. Rodger was then handed the phone to speak directly to his mother.

"During the conversation … Rodger told her he was fine and that he would call her later," the officials said. "Before leaving, deputies gave Rodger information on several local services he could contact if he needed help, including calling the Sheriff’s Office."
