Great pictures. Not sure what to make of the intersection -- doesn't look very easy to cross on a diagonal.

I'm going to bed. If anyone has time, I'm looking for pictures, map, location of the Lindley wash. It's somewhere around goodwill.
Good night all. May tomorrow be the day Maricela comes home

That detective is... something not very nice. They claim they are refusing to investigate because she's missing voluntarily, yet they're saying someone will kill her because of the media coverage you're getting? The two don't mix. If he thinks she is being held and could be killed than he should be INVESTIGATING. Like others said, he is simply ashamed of his lack of action -- and he should be-- being brought to light in the media. When you're making people uncomfortable.. keep going! Grr I will rage over that comment all day. What crap.
Great job, Misti.

There actually is water nearby. The LA River crosses under Lindley Ave. a mile south of Sherman Way. There was over an inch of rain that day.

The river is usually empty, but can run high and fast during rain.

From Post #4 of this thread:

Los Angeles police said there was no evidence of foul play in Maricela's disappearance, but stated it's under suspicious circumstances.

"We haven't ruled out anything. It's odd that she walked away, but we're still investigating it and what I am saying is that there's no evidence of foul play that we've determined at this time," Lt. Kirk Kelly with the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Sarah Garcia said her sister had a history of drug use, but had been clean for the past year after the two moved in together.

According to an officer, Maricela Garcia has gone missing before.

--------

Initially the police did not say Maricela left voluntarily. They said suspicious circumstances, had not ruled anything out, and they were still investigating. I am going to try to look back and see where the police say they determined she left voluntarily and they were not going to investigate any further.

Such an amazing night. As I went to bed last night, one of the last posts I read was about the lack of family or media. I said a little prayer, but went to bed a little worried. So glad things turned out so well!

The photos really help those of us who can't be there to better understand the whole area. I'm more convinced now than ever that she wasn't taking a slow walk in the rain. To cover that much ground in approximately 20 minutes AND in the pouring rain?! If she were trying to leave voluntarily in a prearranged meeting with someone, why would she spend so much of her route out in the open where she would get soaking wet? The mass majority of girls/women would never do that - especially those who worry about their hair, clothes, and make up. We instead would have someone pull up to a protected area right outside the door and pick us up there so we wouldn't get wet at all - or as little as possible.

As far as the detective and the media comment, I would take that with a grain of salt and not let it worry or stop your efforts for one second. Like code4sar, sirenriot, elle*bee, budgiebee, and others have said it sounds like a hollow threat (for lack of a better suited word) - especially when it contradicts their own classification of her disappearance. My suspicion is the LAPD has suddenly been in the media, both local and national, over abducted women a lot lately. I'm sure it's attention they aren't real excited about especially since they haven't solved any of these crimes. I can't imagine that makes them look good and tensions for them internally have to be running high because they haven't stopped or solved these abductions.

Just focus on this - in two of the abductions, Papini and Stacy, where there was high profile and wide scale media attention both of those women came home alive. So don't let up for a second.

Ok, so looking back it was on the 18th the family was informed by police they were deeming Maricella voluntarily missing.

So what happened on the 18th that changed the LE views on why she is missing? Was any evidence uncovered then?

Well no, I'm not saying the police are making a hollow threat. I actually think I am probably the lone person in the group who thinks it might be best the heed their advice. Just because the police aren't investigating using the methods utilized in other cases doesn't mean they aren't doing things they aren't sharing with the family or media. I also am not of the opinion Maricela's disappearance is being treated differently because she is Latina. I think circumstances are different.

One thing we learned previously in this thread...she was kidnapped before, drugged and held in a motel against her will. Whether the police found her before, she managed to escape, or was released by her captor...am still reading back to see if we know. I do recall in her mom's open letter, she said it had been in the news right after this disappearance that Maricela had "run away" before and that was not true. I have read almost all of the news and cannot see where the mom read Maricella ran away before.

I'm re-reading to find what is fact.

Ok, found the answer on how she was found before on Post #150 - "Apparently they located her in a motel room and although I don't have details, they fully believe she was there against her will. The ex was actually charged with kidnapping although I don't know if he was convicted."

So last time she was missing, "they" (I take to be the family) found her.

Has video from inside the Jon's store been checked?

The latino community liaison sergeant has asked me to contact him so I will be doing that this morning. The family wants to search Saturday so once I confirm that with Dad, I will post details. Good point about Stacy and Papini...if I kidnapped someone, I wouldn't want to be keeping someone that everyone was looking for :(
I hope to talk to Dad and have a few answers this morning. At the least, maybe the Sergeant will be able to help. I'm sure Nancy Grace is going to rip LAPD again so interesting to see what effect that has.
On the 18th was when we found out that media was not covering it because the PIO stated she was voluntarily missing. I think that goes hand in hand with suspicious circumstances although I don't understand it.
Again, if they have information that she is willingly gone, at least tell the family. That dad and that mom and that sister and that brother are terrified and desperate. Lay their minds to rest or get off your asses.
Can anyone map where that river flows under Lindley in relation to the GW? I'm not a map person and it looks as though that will be the logical next place to search.
Hoping for information today. The views on the page have gone down despite NG covering this twice. People are losing interest. No information is being released so there is nothing for people to be interested in.
I don't quite know where to go from here.

I spoke with Jon's personally and was given the corporate office number. That was on Dad's list to do Monday. I don't have detailed results from that so I am going to ask him this morning if he will call me. If he doesn't, I will call them myself.

Has video from inside the Jon's store been checked?

I'm just a lurker here in this thread from Long Island NY, but I just HAD to say Wow to the AMAZING, CARING, CAPABLE members here that have turned this missing persons case into a
PROACTIVE PRODUCTIVE FORCE of action. WS is amazing and this thread is proof of what can be accomplished. I have no doubt whatsoever that if Marcela can be recovered safe, it's in great part due to the hard work done here. Again, WOW, you guys rock.😊

Idk if most people are aware that LE uses a 'risk factor' based off of compiled police reports from fusion centers under the Patriot Act. A young women from Colorado who has no prior data would be considered low risk high priority. On the other hand someone with prior substance abuse issues and a previous dissapearance ( mind you I haven't seen a police report ) would be high risk and low priority, especially being over the age of 18. The fact LE didn't even consider her case as involuntary, which hindered the ability to get Maricela on national missing persons databases and in the news, and stating that getting her story out will bring her harm is sure, maybe a plan all along not to spook a perpetrator in the area who they think will hurt her. Maybe, but makes more sense to me that theyre trying to shift any responsibility for inaction if MG is not found, or found deceased. All you have to do is look at the news and everyday you'll see another LEO busted for lying, blaming the victim, etc.. it's policy.

mistivon, what became of the mister's intent to dumpster dive?

I read here that they last picked up on the 11th for the monthly garbage removal, but then a new message said they take it twice weekly, Tuesdays and Fridays?

Map of the LA River in relation to the GoodWill.

Just north of the river on the west side of the street there is a business with cameras on the exterior. Would be worth inquiring there.
