Terrible music, maybe mute it before watching.

He projected the source of his problems onto his parents. Now that they're gone he's going have even worse problems, while slowly realizing that they were never the actual problem to begin with.
If he has some type of personality disorder, he will never get to that place.

This is going to be a hugely high profile case, I can see an already high profile attorney offering his services for even more exposure.

It's also entirely possible that people whose beliefs are at odds with the Reiner's have already started donating to a defence fund. I certainly wouldn't be surprised in the current climate unfortunately.
I can see this guy volunteering his services to get his name and face out there! He'll get on all the podcasts and talk shows. This trial will be a money maker for him. 🤑😒

I doubt there was much coherent thought involved. He probably in his drug or psychosis fueled mind saw killing them as a means to remove their continued impeding him living the way he wanted. He may even have thought with them dead he would inherit their wealth and the party would never have to stop.

I am pretty confident their estate plan will end up containing a trust to hold and oversee any funds he might inherit from their estates so he basically killed them for nothing. IMO
I'm quite sure that his siblings will make sure that he doesn't inherit anything!

I’m curious about what caused the argument.
The usual I'm guessing. Rob probably told him that he was embarassing them, and that he was getting kicked out/Conservatorship...

There's just no justification for killing, and killing so brutally.

However.

I'm wondering what it does to a person, a CHILD, when his extended family/friends circle decides to not only publicise his struggles, but monetise them. He had absolutely no privacy. Years before drugs entered the frame, someone wrote a book about him, presumably without informed consent because a child can't consent because they have no concept of what that means.

Nick seems to have slowly, continuously imploded his whole life, and had to do it in a spotlight.

Yes, he had choices, and made a lot of bad ones, but I wonder about those choices made for him, and how much extra weight they added. They can't have helped.

MOO
Respectfully disagree on one point. It was Nick who wrote the screenplay and brought it to his dad. RR helped get a suitable co-writer and used his directorial skills to bring the film to fruition.

Well, he won't have to worry about ever being homeless again and sleeping on the streets. He now gets "3 hots and a cot" as the expression goes.

Has the murder weapon been recovered?

BOTOH, it seems those kinds of people, however wealthy, are too cheap to spend a dime unless it directly benefits themselves: they need to be able to brag about it, or get their name on it, or generate money from it.

He is being charge with 2 counts of first degree murder, but also a "special circumstance of multiple murders". What does that mean?

Cued up:

Does anyone know what that means?

They said it's because it was multiple murders

I pray the parent's money isn't going toward his defense.
I believe under California law, a person who murders a decendant isn't allowed to benefit from the estate, therefore, his parents funds cannot fund his defense.

I havent posted much on this thread, so perhaps its been mentioned already that Carroll O'Connor's son also struggled with addiction. Unfortunately, many people struggle with addiction, no matter where you come from, no one is exempt from addiction.
It's not an excuse, just thought it interesting and wanted to make note of CC's son.

The Reiner's ending very tragic, especially when it's your own family.

Rest easy, Rob and Michele Reiner.

So many of us are able to relate to this video.

Could be

(14) The murder was especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel, manifesting exceptional depravity. As used in this section, the phrase “especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel, manifesting exceptional depravity” means a conscienceless or pitiless crime that is unnecessarily torturous to the victim.

(15) The defendant intentionally killed the victim by means of lying in wait.
