From Brown to Bondi to this in one weekend. Our world can be so senselessly cruel and hateful.

Nick had been in Rehab countless times ( I’ve heard upwards of 15 (maybe that included times he quit also). When Rob Reiner said. “We listened to professionals instead of our son…. “ what else was he supposed to do? He asked his son tell me what you need !!
Nick said he felt forced into homelessness because he wasnt able to do things his way and wasn’t open to their suggestions of reheb, so he had to go. He said he shouldn’t have been homeless b/c he came from a good family, and he could have died on those streets ( by “a good family “ I wonder if he just meant rich) it just reeks of entitlement . In the end is that what they were doing,,, trying it nicks way? Walking on eggshells.
Just seems like nothing would have satisfied him. It would have been a crazy making game living there and dealing with that for years.
He does sound entitled and also unappreciative of a loving family. That is the best resource ever!

I wish the word "homelessness" wasn't used to describe him living on the streets.

Living on the streets is what Nick was doing. He had options that homeless people do not have.

Minor issue of wording in light of the tragedy, I know.

This comment is at the reporting, not at anyone here on WS.

I feel so utterly sad for the daughter that found her parents murdered. She likely knew this brother was involved.

She had grown up with him and was likely privy to all the misery her parents went through with his lengthy drug history and relapses, rehabs, relapses and such. In a sense, I think she was probably in danger, too at times during these long episodes, as she lived very nearby the parent home and the "guesthouse" he lived in.

She is going to need a lot of TLC and support.

Sadly it sounds like you’re exactly right about her knowing the brother was involved, from this article:

On Sunday, Rob and Michele were found dead in their Brentwood, Calif., home by Nick’s younger sister, Romy.

The duo’s throats were reportedly slit by a family member during an argument, with the couple’s daughter allegedly telling investigators the “dangerous” relative “should be a suspect.”

Unfortunately I don’t doubt you’re probably correct about her experience with him as well.:( A person with these kind of issues affects the entire family. I hope Romy’s two older siblings will be able to support her, she went through horror finding her parents like that.

This reminds me of Matthew Perry, in that their money was the only way they stayed "alive."

Having worked in hospitals that had a lot of terminal addiction patients, Club 27 isn't just an entertainment meme. It really is the life expectancy for people with severe addiction issues, and that includes eating disorders.

Meth also causes frequent episodes of drug induced psychosis.
And dilates pupils, which might explain why Nick's eyes were described as black.

Yes, I think his parents kept him alive. Bottomline.

At this time, I doubt the perp is going to ever be safe or rehabilitated some time in the future, and ready for release ?
Stabbing is up close and personal and your own family members makes it beyond horrific.

Wonder if Rob and Michele had security cameras that showed the sequence of events; that may be shown to the jury -- sorry to type that.

Must have been sudden enough that there was no time for them to try to escape or call for help ?
It sounds like his parents tried, over and over again to get him treatment ?

What a sad betrayal.
My .02 is he needs to be locked away for good.
Imo.

Nick Reiner won’t ever be homeless again.

Lock him up and throw away the key.

yes, homeless by choice because, boundaries and expectations attached to support from family. He sounds entitled.

The police said Nick Reiner had been booked for murder and remains in custody with no bail.
Jail records viewable online previously indicated that bail had been set at $4 million, but those records have since been modified.

JMO but if People magazine is reporting the identity of the killer, they must be confident enough to report this without fear of being sued into oblivion if the information is false.

Edited to comply with TOS
The LA Times is reporting that his son has been arrested and charged with murder. So it's official. Also, his sister reported him as the most likely suspect. She found the bodies, and they'd been in a fight the night before at a party.

I think he will indeed be locked away for good. If the evidence proves it, he will be convicted of two murders.

He won't be "homeless" anymore and he won't have to stress about not living up to his father and grandfather's talent and fame because there is no chance for that now. He killed his potential, hurt his family immeasurabley, and solved all his problems. And, he perhaps will still be able to use drugs in prison as, from what I understand, they can be had for a price even behind bars.

He's another case of someone who failed to launch (or thought he failed - there is always time to improve!) and then destroyed everything around him. He's a bit older than most "failure to launch" destroyers, but I think he lasted longer because he had a family who, out of love and good intentions, propped him up.

A masseuse came to their door at 2 pm, but no answer. NR could have followed them home from the party and killed them hours before.

Thank God. I was worried about him being released.
