Apparently he's never had 2 nickles of his own to rub together, so it's gotta be pro bono for publicity. Unless it's being funded by family (no, imo) or some $$ political funder.

Agree. However, in America, the decision to seek therapy is personal, and you can not force a competent adult into treatment against their will. Defining competence for this purpose is a challenge! It's not even possible to force treatment on an inmate with a history of mental illness while incarcerated. Here, I'm specifically referring to the process necessary for involuntarily medicating a defendant pursuant to the Sell factors. See Sell v. United States, 539 U.S. 166 (2003). I'm following a case where the decision to force psychotropic meds has been going on for 28 months! JMO

Where is he going to get the money to pay for this "great" attorney? Certainly not his own money. Perhaps money given to him by the wonderful parents he brutally murdered? Or is the attorney doing it pro-bono for the publicity?

What's his defense going to be? Go with the Mendendez BS that he was sexually abused? Unlike with Menendez, that clearly did not happen here. Say that his dad was hard on him because he was a degenerate addict? That he yelled at him in public because he was an embarrassment?

Or maybe the insanity defense. That he was not in the right frame of mind. CA doesn't have the death penalty, and I'm guessing his siblings will be fine if he's locked up the rest of his life, so despite the brutality of the murder of a by all appearances lovely couple, the DA doesn't bother making it a death penalty case.

The guy is scum. He took from the world some generous and lovely people, who cared for him more than anybody probably ever has or ever will. Sounds like he never respected his dad and was jealous and full of resentment. The fact he's even going to mount a strong defense shows what a narcissist he must be. I somehow doubt he feels remorse or shame for what he did, and the anguish he caused for millions upon millions of people who loved his parents.

I must admit although I had seen the many films Rob made ,I wasn't aware of him and I hadn't been aware of Nick or the film finding Charlie. So I'm looking at this with "fresh eyes " .

Imo Nick was eaten up by his father's likeable nature .Any success or compliment attributed to Rob was taken as a criticism of himself . This is narcissism in the negative. The narcissist takes success of others as a failure for themselves.

This is an innate part of Nick ,no amount of praise , empathy, love shown or success of their own compensate and no amount of drugs soothe it .there will always exist someone who naturally more resourceful, talented ,richer and intelligent then you . It's it just the fundamentals of life and the law of averages . The need to be the best that gnaws is insatiable as it can't be quenched . It just so happens that the person that Nick obsessed over was his father . It was a roundabout neither could get off .

As the more the father did ,the more the son resented the endurance of his father's love .it was always going to end this way as long as the two where in the same proximity imo moo

I wonder if Nick really admired his father and hated himself for never being able to measure up. Perhaps, he had such self-loathing that he resented his father for his feeling this way. He hated all that his father represented, everything that he couldn't or wouldn't ever be. It seems to me that Nick's mindset was stuck as a 15-year-old, when he started abusing drugs. When he murdered his parents, it was an impulsive tantrum, most probably aimed at his father for something that he said in front of people. Sort of like, "How dare he treat me like that in front of all those people? I'll show him."

Well, I guess that Nick thinks that he won. He got rid of his main problem in life. I actually think that after he is off drugs for a while and on medication and he becomes more clear headed, he will realize what he has done. I don't even think that he has the mental capacity to realize it right now.

It is a very tragic situation for everyone. Rob Reiner, by all accounts, was a very successful man. Nick, for some reason, didn't want to do anything with his life. So, instead, he did drugs. That was his thing. He probably was a big shot around the rest of the druggies. That's where he felt important--not in his father's world.

All Just My Opinion.

Reiner has not yet been medically cleared to be transported from the jail where he’s being held to the courthouse, Jackson said, and that it’s “day to day” on when he will appear. The jail is about a mile away.

Jackson did not elaborate on why Reiner was not cleared. The US Marshals Service had said it located and arrested Reiner “without incident” on Sunday.

Prosecutors put together a charging document based on evidence provided by the police, but have not announced criminal charges.

His attorney would not comment on whether the family hired him or if he has met with Reiner.

So maybe he checked in, then left, went to the Reiner home and committed the murders (ie 5 or 6am) and then returned to the hotel to clean up. Then obviously left again (unless that's where he was arrested)

I can see this going years before there is any trial. Maybe I'll check back here in 2030.
(Just kidding, but this is messed up California where cases like this can take 5-7 years, or more, to finally be resolved)
I'd like to know who's paying the high priced and high profile attorney.
