He's too ill to come to court but still manages to hire a high dollar atty.

This is going to be a hugely high profile case, I can see an already high profile attorney offering his services for even more exposure.

It's also entirely possible that people whose beliefs are at odds with the Reiner's have already started donating to a defence fund. I certainly wouldn't be surprised in the current climate unfortunately.

Slayer laws prevent murderers from benefiting from the estates of their victims. no matter what the will says. So he has zero access to his parents money or assets and if found guilty of their murders he never will.

I think it's possibly pro-bono, given the publicity value to the lawyer.

Or, honoring their parent's generosity and lack of vindictiveness, the other children might be funding it.

LOS ANGELES — Nick Reiner had been disruptive at a holiday party Saturday with his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, according to two people familiar with the situation, just hours before they were found dead in their Los Angeles home.

Nick Reiner, who was arrested Sunday and later booked on suspicion of murder, made other guests uncomfortable with his behavior at the holiday party, which was hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, one person said. Another person said Reiner’s parents were upset and embarrassed about their son’s behavior at the party and expressed worries about his health.

The two people asked that their names be withheld because of the sensitivity of the matter...

I wonder if he was drinking or had been using drugs, to display this behavior at a holiday party.

I am curious to see what timeline prosecution develops. Right now everything seems very up in the air as to when he left the holiday party, where he went after, when he arrived at the home (where reportedly he lived in the guest house on the property), etc.

I suspect he went home, sat and stewed in the guest house, probably knowing his parents intended to yet again enforce boundaries and ask him to vacate the next day, and after they went to sleep sometimes in the wee hours he crept into their quarters and killed them as they slept, then checked into the hotel. either that or he went to hotel after the party scene, stewed there, went back to the home, killed the couple and returned to the hotel.

Hard to know how it went down with such limited info. I don't even know if he has a car or was dependent on rideshares and ubers for transportation. I would think he has a car, but who knows.

One of the news clips posted earlier, describing NR's arrest process, mentioned that NR doesn't drive, and speculated that he may have taken public transit to the location on Vermont St. where he was arrested (oddly, the clip does not mention the hotel aspect).

So that would suggest his transport to the hotel was also using public transport or perhaps an Uber or taxi etc.

If NR was covered in blood (his own or his parents) sufficient to create a mess as has been reported seen in the hotel room, it's hard to picture him taking a bus or even a taxi in such a condition.

Maybe we'll learn that the hotel mess was from trying (poorly) to rinse out bloody items. Or maybe, as someone suggested upthread, there was a self-harm component to what happened in the hotel room that was later controlled. MOO

Yes I agree, it would be highly unlikely that he used public transportation to leave from the crime scene if he was covered in blood. He would’ve had ample opportunity to clean himself up at the home as that was where he was living at the time.

On the other hand ‘doesn’t drive’ sometimes means cannot legally drive. After committing a double murder illegal driving would’ve been the least of his concerns, especially if he in the pursuit of drugs.

Officials can't specify time of death​

Officials says they can't specify the time of death as they await a coroner's report. Asked about who made the 911 call, Los Angeles police says they were made aware through a request of assistance from the Los Angeles Fire Department which first responded to the scene.

Officers then "determined a crime has occurred" who notified the Robbery and Homicide Division.

Personality disorder psychiatry definition "a deeply ingrained pattern of behaviour of a specified kind that deviates markedly from the norms of generally accepted behaviour, causing long-term difficulties in personal relationships or in functioning in society."

The more I read about NR, the more convinced I am that he has a personality disorder, rather than a long term mental illness. However, due to his addiction issues, it's certainly possible there was also some drug induced psychosis at play.

Would he be eligible for any inheritance cash for his defense? From people he killed? Or just a public defender?

I read that he has a lawyer now- Alan Jackson. That's all I know about him.

Just an aside...this young man who had a very long-standing drug problem was brought along to a Hollywood party presumably by his parents? The very last place someone with his history should have been at. There's usually a lot of drinking at these parties and possibly drug use?
I'm not famous but have been at some of these parties in the past. Open bar, also marijuana and other drugs. I'm talking forty years ago (I'm old) but I don't think things have changed much.

I read that Rob brought him to keep an eye on him. Maybe worried that he'd have used drugs at home alone or with a friend.

Nick opened up even further about his ups and downs with drugs during a 2018 episode of the "Dopey" podcast, where he confessed to stealing $200 dollars from his parents at age 15 to lose his virginity to a sex worker. He also revealed he once "wrecked" his parents' guest house while high. "I got totally spun out on uppers - I think it was coke and something else - and I was up for days on end," he shared on the episode. "I started punching out different things in my guest house. I literally punched the TV." When asked if there was a thought process to destroying the property, Nick replied, "You're crazy. No logic."
