CA - Murder victims Identified as Rob Reiner and wife Michele - LA Dec 14 2025

“I had no identity, and I had no passions,” he admitted at the time. “And I think the reason I had no identity was because I have a famous dad and a famous grandpa, and that fame sort of informs who you are. So I wanted to edge out my own identity with a more rebellious, angry, drug-addicted sort of persona.”

This is why I often believe nature is more impactful than nurture.

His sister and brother had the same famous father and famous grandfather and did not viciously slaughter their parents.

I wish Rob’s daughter Tracy, whom he adopted when he was married to Penny Marshall, would get more mention in the news. Nick’s mother was not especially famous, but Tracy had a famous mother as well as Rob as her adopted father.

She didn’t kill him, either.

JMO and the facts.

I think this might pass for a few minutes --coming from the mouth of the immature 20 yo, but what's your excuse at 32? I call rubbish on this sad excuse!

The human psyche is wired to adapt behavior to the reward system. Even negative behavior is repeated if you're rewarded for it. And nobody performs in a specific manner for zero reward! IMO, NR liked the control his addiction had over his family. He craved feeling empowered over them. He found humor in the aftermath of his rages, and bragged about how he could get away with anything.

And while it's true that addiction highjacks the brain's learning system, true sobriety (i.e., not NR's alternate definition of abstinence of one substance in exchange for another), is the first step to rewire the brain reward pathways. MOO

Why did he allegedly put sheets over the windows? All hotels have heavy duty window treatments. Usually it is a blackout fabric layered with one or two other fabrics.

Hotel was on Pier so maybe draw was ocean view. Sheets was obvious disguise to block anyone from outside looking in in my opinion.

My first thought was paranoia.

personally hope there is an in depth investigation between Nick and siblings. Nick's alledged actions guaranteed forever wealth for sister and brother. Nick is almost certain to get housing and food from state of Calif for his actions which maybe for Nick is a benefit. I think a deep dive into the family dynamics will paint a better picture to what the heck happened.
SBM

But it wasn’t his siblings who were found in a hotel room that was drenched in blood.

That was Nick.

And if you believe Romy staged this scene of finding her father dead and then finding out her mother was dead too, then the masseuse had to be in on it because she was the one who alerted Romy that no one was answering the Reiner’s door.

And periodically throughout his life Nick made the choice to be homeless rather than live in a grand mansion with his very rich family.

IMO this does not align with what happened.

And maybe it depends what kind of drugs you are on, but doesnt paranoia usually come when you're coming down? That makes me think he was probably high when the murders happened. Maybe thats why he went near USC? Wanted to get more drugs cause he was tweaking out.

It feels like he decided that since he can't get attention for doing anything of value, he took this route. The title character in Being Charlie seemed so cringey, it tracks that it's based on him and his edgelord personality. The way he spoke about his temper and destructive ways is on par with a 13 year old bragging about egging someone's house.

Thats what I thought, I heard , So this kid goes home murders his family, Manages to get himself to Santa Monica and rents a room right next to the pier ( its busy isnt it?) rents the room in his own name ,allegedly uses his own credit card , doesn’t officially check out but leaves blood all over the bathtub /shower and covers the windows with bedsheets. He somehow makes his way over to the area near USC, walks into a gas station to get a drink and is carrying a red backpack… What on earth was he doing? RR was one of the most famous people in Hollywood, did he not think anyone would be looking for him?
Drug addicts and reason do not get along very well, to put it mildly. I am pretty sure that when Nick left the party he went to do some drugs, which instead of diminishing his anger might just increase it to the point of mindless fury.

Assuming you mean Nick? I said that to my friend earlier, 100% those eyes. Like Bryan Kohberger. Chilling in those instances!
Yes I did mean nick of course, sorry!

"High on drugs" or.... Whatever look he had on his face might have nothing to do with drugs. Moreso... what he had done.
Or both things. If, as alleged, his parents claimed he was using drugs against, he was probably high. Once an addict resumes drug habits, they get high regularly.

Someone introduced me to the concept of "sanpaku eyes" on another websleuths thread and rob has these eyes in almost all photos ive seen.

I know this type of thing is not backed by science but it sure is striking.

I as well see sanpaku eyes.

Nick Reiner was a 'weirdo' who 'always had a strange, odd stare,' a gas station owner who knew the Reiner family for decades has told the Daily Mail.

I was finally able to catch up on this thread. I'm not surprised at all that he eventually admitted that he wasn't sober during his publicity rounds for his movie. A lot of people are recreational drug users in Los Angeles (and everywhere else), so for the family to be worried about him, it was much more than cocaine a few times at a party, he was obviously doing A LOT of drugs. I think it's interesting that he kept the sober storyline whenever he was on interviews with his family, but shared that he was still doing weed and drinking alcohol when he was on his own for a podcast. The California Sober approach has actually been taken by a lot of additcs, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and people eventually go back to the hard drugs. All of this to say that from what has been shared, it doesn't really seem like Nick ever had any intention of being sober.

Do we have an established timeline yet?

Based on the reports of his appearance at check in, in my mind, it makes sense that he went back and murdered them after getting the room, then went back to it to clean himself up.

It does never work, because the addict remains addicted. Alcohol is a hell of a drug, actually, killing people and destroying lives as much as heroin or cocaine. Weed might be less horrible in this aspect than booze, but overuse of it did not help anyone keep their life on track.

One key question is when the Reiners were killed.

Prosecutors have alleged N Reiner stabbed his parents in "approximately the early morning hours" on Sunday, according to a news release. But a specific time has not been disclosed.

“We don’t have that kind of specificity yet,” McDonnell said of the timeline of the couple’s deaths. “We’re waiting on the coroner to be able to try and determine as best they can at this point.”

The couple was found dead around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday — reportedly by their daughter Romy — and Reiner was arrested hours later at the *Expo/Vermont Metro station in Exposition Park.

Reiner was taken into custody around 9:15 p.m. and booked on suspicion of murder at 5:04 a.m. Monday.

Reportedly, NR checked into room 207 at The Pierside Hotel in Santa Monica around 4 AM on Sunday.

IMO, it follows that NR would commit the murders in the early hours of Sunday (to avoid detection), and want to distance himself from the scene, traveling about 4 miles from his Brentwood residence to his hotel in Santa Monica. And why the Santa Monica Pier? To dispose of evidence (the knife)?

We don't know how long NR spent in room 207, or when he departed Santa Monica and surfaced near Exposition Park and the USC campus.

Per Google Maps, the fastest route from the hotel to Expo/USC area, where NR was successfully apprehended without incident, is 17 minutes by car via I-10E (14.9 mi), or 39 minutes to an hour via Metro Transit. And why travel to the USC area less than 20 hours after murdering both of your parents? I think I agree with @ttjo -- this destination was likely where NR could score his substance of choice.

About the death penalty in California, why it’s an option in cases where the defendant is accused of murder with special circumstances (as is NR)

As of right now without any further information, this is what I am thinking. Did he go check in with that black bag (first video of him seen walking through the nearby gas station) maybe having a change of clothes in it?

If you can access this, there is a good timeline visual in here….
