There have been a few ARSON arrests. The latest fire, in Calasbasas area, very close to us, was arson. They just arrested the moron.

That's 5000+ homes, apartment buildings, stores/restaurants, offices, schools and churches.

Arson?!? OMG. I know it's not the first time arson has caused a forest fire. But. That makes me so angry. I don't have words. The morons who toss a cigarette or whatever where they shouldn't is bad enough. But who sets fires for fun/to cause damage or why exactly arsonists commit arson. SMH

I am in Cape Town, SA and over the last few years fires have sprung up on most mountain ranges, fanned by the wind and spread rapidly. The cause - mainly arsonists...

This article names one of the other victims as Erliene Kelley, a retired pharmacy technician.

All the victims named so far seem to have been elderly and/or disabled.

TL : DR - Anthony, 67, was an amputee, and Justin, in his 20s, had cerebral palsy.
Father and son. Devastating for the extended family to lose both at once.

Father and son. Devastating for the extended family to lose both at once.
There was another son besides Justin usually available who probably would have been the one to help them leave, but he was in hospital when the fire began. His sister, who the father called as the fire was approaching, lives in a completely different state.

They could do nothing but wait for the ambulance, and it never came.

Some years ago, we had a firefighter in my area arrested for lighting fires. Other times they have caught kids doing it. On really bad fire-danger days it is not unusual to see police patrolling the area, watching for arsonists - other than that, we pretty much never see police vehicles in my part of the Adelaide Hills.

Huge long list here of celebrities - actors, singers, reality tv stars, etc. - who have lost their homes. Some I'm familiar with, others not, but it's already a big list. I assume this is just going to get longer, looking at the pictures from the Palisades and Eaton fires. And there are going to be people who don't meet the DM's bar of 'famous' who could have lost everything. I know, for example, that Matt Mercer and Marisha Ray of Critical Role fame were evacuated, but I've no idea if their home is still standing.

I'm so freaking angry. Not only did the drone strike the plane, due to wing damage from the strike, SuperScooper is grounded.

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. They're saving your life, drone tool! Go think about your choices.

The Lidia fire is 75% contained.

A reminder that contained doesn't mean out, just that they're keeping it within a perimeter. Embers can still fly, and a sudden wind change could mean a fire jumps lines and is uncontained again.

"Amid this, looting has broken out. At least 20 people have been arrested in the aftermath of wildfires that started on Tuesday.

"They were testing doors and looking in windows" of homes that had been evacuated, Nicholas Norman, who managed to save his home from burning, told AFP. Now Norman, a teacher, is busy guarding his home from looters, after a police officer friend told him that looters had been arrested a few blocks away just hours earlier.

Norman, who usually doesn't even lock his car, said he will be back on his porch after sunset, and will make a few rounds of nearby streets to keep an eye out on empty houses."

A whole article on ABC News Australia about the problematic planting of blue gums in California, and the exacerbating role they are possibly playing in the fires.

Are the gum trees causing the fires? No. Are they making them harder to bring under control? Well, they're not helping, that's for sure.

Grassroots volunteer effort at Rose Bowl parking lot organising and distributing outpouring of donations. Water, hygiene products, canned food, blankets, hot food. It all began with a father and son serving hot dogs to hungry evacuees.
