"His legal representation now rests with a court-appointed public defender.
TMZ reported that sources connected to Romy and Jake Reiner said
there is no plan to hire another private criminal defense attorney.
A public defender was appointed last month.
At the time,
it appeared to be a temporary measure.
However,
on Monday, Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene appeared in court
and entered a not guilty plea on Nick's behalf."
I never believed that it was Romy or Jake who hired Jackson. All that was said was "family". I've always thought that it was a sibling of Rob or Michelle's who hired him. Thanks for linking, @Dotta . ^^^

Nick Reiner siblings stop paying for defense of Rob and mom Michele
Nick Reiner's siblings, Romy and Jake, are no longer paying for his defense as he faces charges of murdering his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele.www.dailymail.co.uk

Rbm.
So it's not certain that Jake and Romy hired Alan Jackson in the first place.
More double-speak from msm, it would appear ?
It's as if msm want to drag Nick's siblings' names into this, whether they want it or not.
Not surprised they didn't show up for his arraignment.
Can't believe how he's aged.
His eyes look like a shark, even now.
Scary, imo.
Life will go on for his siblings ... but will never be the same, and always painful, one would imagine.
So sorry for all who loved the Reiners.
Imo.
Possibly, but I don't know how much of a deal he would get for Capital Murder charges. JMOI wonder if the PD has decided that Nick's best shot is to plead not guilty and then try and get a plea deal?
Agreed and said the same thing a while ago about that being the reason Jason recused himself. In interviews Jackson plainly stated that Nick was not guilty. The only way NR is 'not guilty' is if he was psychotic and had a break with reality.I don't think he will. I think he rejected the Insanity label, and that's why his lawyer Jackson felt the need to quit. He couldn't defend him otherwise IMO.
I think anything to do with plea deals would only come after defense has received all the evidence from the prosecution.I wonder if the PD has decided that Nick's best shot is to plead not guilty and then try and get a plea deal?
So if NR is eligible to be represented by a public defender, then I assume that he doesn't have access to any funds at this time. I wonder how AJ thought he was going to be paid. Perhaps at that earlier time, the family were still not sure how they wanted to proceed and started off with hiring AJ but then as they came to terms with what had happened, they made other decisions.

Or if they assumed he’d pled NGRI and they felt that was at least admitting guilt in some way.So if NR is eligible to be represented by a public defender, then I assume that he doesn't have access to any funds at this time. Step #1: See what they've got against him.
The bizarre thing with the previous lawyer/family statements was they were stating in public that he definately killed the victims, but he should not go to prison, just a mental institution "for life".
Which is extremely violating of his constitutional right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, and sentenced by a judge, not his lawyer/family... IMO, he's not dumb, he knew that and told them where to put it.
JMO
I agree that statement was totally suss from Jackson. I've personally never seen a lawyer who has withdrawn from a case do such a thing.I think anything to do with plea deals would only come after defense has received all the evidence from the prosecution.

I also suggested the theory that AJ withdrew because NR wouldn't agree to go with a NGBI plea early on. AJ has seen the evidence the State has against NR and probably knew that was the only way he wouldn't get LWOP or the DP, perhaps he even truly believes it himself.Or if they assumed he’d pled NGRI and they felt that was at least admitting guilt in some way.
Maybe NR made it clear he was only interested in pleading NG.
I was of course, paraphrasing, there were no quotation marks in my statement.I can't find any articles where Nick Reiner's siblings state that:
Nick Reiner definitely killed our parents and should get sentenced to a mental institution for life.
