I won't try to get into a peeing contest here over how easy it is, I will say for 19 years that was the easiest, and most efficient way for me to get the job done and back to my other job, take it for what it's worth, I seldom ever stopped or even slowed down to launch a 30+ pound bundle over the roof unless the banding was weak or some other reason to get out of the vehicle.
I planned my stops so that the store front I was delivering to would be on the right side of my truck in most cases unless the bundle was small, such as some very remote stores in small viallages. I can remember on one particular morning just as winds were moving in from an oncoming storm that I threw a bundle over the roof of my truck and didn't see it land. On my return trip I looked again for it, then spotted it on the store roof. The wind had caught it and carried it there. :floorlaugh:
