I stopped following this case way back cuz I couldn’t do the ‘was it m/s’ debate - guess I missed a lot! Do I read it right that KD is wondering if a Sherman son may have been involved? Thanks to anyone who can shed light on KD’s contribution!

KD hasn’t come right out to accuse JS, or show anything linking him directly to the crime. But, he hasn’t painted a good picture of him.

In general KD has written that:

- JS & HS ‘hated’ each other.

-In 2015, there was a heated email exchange between JS & BS. JS didn’t like that his father loaned money to FDA and questioned Barry’s competency. JS told his sisters that Barry was mishandling their inheritance, and they should intervene. JS then asked his father for $250 million for a project.

-JS fired Barry’s good friend and business partner Jack Kay

-JS has large mystery mortgages on his Green Storage businesses that are funded by an Apotex company. (You’d have to google it.)

There’s more in the book and online.

How did you know, or guess?

I thought it was a sure thing because a TPS spokeswoman confirmed it.

Person of interest identified in murder of Barry, Honey Sherman: Toronto police
IMO the news release is deeply ambiguous. It is not contradicting the earlier email. Fact: They have a person of interest. Fact: They have not arrested that person. But they refuse to confirm whether that person is a suspect.

A person of interest is someone they want to interview or investigate. IMO that person is refusing to talk or release info to them. IMO this is a way of putting pressure on the person, that not cooperating will not just make the police go away.

I always thought this was a double homicide from the beginning, but I was familiar with Apotex.

I also know this street very well from the late 1980's when I used to house sit a home on it. At that time, it would not strike anyone as a "millionaire's row" type of place unlike the Bridle Path area, don't know if that has changed. Certainly if you know real estate values in that area one could expect they would be wealthy. There are large old trees that obscure the houses from view, and the house I know looked like a modest two story from the street but was actually a massive home, on a huge ravine lot that went really far back.

JMO I don't think TPS had any idea of the extent of the Sherman's wealth for the first day or two. Or the litigious nature of Barry Sherman and Apotex. There are many rich people in Toronto but not like Barry and Honey. Their names were also not splashed around much like other philanthropist Torontonians. Toronto Jewish community would know them, but by virtue of Apotex making generic drugs, it was not a household name. The officers first on the scene might not have realized the whole situation.

So the easiest conclusion, the path of least resistance, for TPS was m/s when they found a somewhat elderly couple dead. Then IMO, on day two or three, someone in TPS figured out these are actual billionaires, and the case needed much more investigation, and everything changed IMO.

TPS can't say something like "we didn't know who they were when we first found the bodies and now we are looking at this more carefully".

Excellent points you’ve made. In addition to your comments, it’s also probable none of the initial TPS responders were experienced in visually recognizing the manner in which the deaths occurred, beyond noting the deaths were considered Suspicious because they did not die by natural causes. (Or as opposed to the obvious, ie a stabbing or shooting victim).

This is what I think as well and whoever is that “person of interest” is fully aware of it.

You attach the belt around your neck while kneeling. Then pull your jacket down from your shoulders. Then lean back and put your legs out front. I don't believe that happened, but it is possible to do.

I don't believe that BS would have been capable of performing that manoeuver lacking the flexibility at his age. He would have needed his hands and arms to brace himself trying to bring his legs to the front after kneeling. Both of them had their coats pulled down over their arms. I think it was to hinder movement while the killers prepared them for death. Once dead, or at least unconscious, they were arranged in that pose. I just can't see either of them being conscious during the posing.

Plus the whole issuing of posing them to recreate the two sculptures smacks of a personal aspect to the killings. Yet, if JS did murder his parents, it's a dumb thing to do since LE would focus their attention on family members or close associates.

Unless, a close associate or family member used the pose to implicate another family member.

Your example could be another reason the Coroner was awaiting toxicology results in order to complete the autopsy, prior to the official determination of targeted double homicide. Aside from Barry’s lifelong association to pharmaceuticals and in addition to prescribed medications, it’d be important to know what drugs were present in their bodies at the time of death.

There was also a large metal art piece in the basement of a female leading a lamb with a rope around its neck. (!!)

Yes, I remember seeing that. It was just plonked at the bottom of the spiral staircase, if I remember correctly.

Really? I don't think it would be difficult at all. If it makes it seem easier, just attach the belts while crouching instead of kneeling, then lean back

I believe they were already dead, so kneeling or crouching isn't going to happen.

If one is kneeling, its almost impossible to 'lean back and put your legs out front'. You are either kneeling or you have leg mobility, not both/alternating.

If you try it, please let us know how it goes?

I think it's possible that they were subdued with a neck hold to render them senseless during the murder since no narcotic or drug was found in their systems which would have rendered them unconscious.

It's also possible that neither Sherman fought their attackers because right up until the end they were incredulous that they would be murdered by their assailant.

If it was a family member or members, sometimes passion gets in the way of planning.

ARGGH. How can a journalist function without the ability to read and write in the past tense!

The news release did not state they currently have numerous persons of interest, right now. It said they have had (past and present over the course of the case) numerous persons of interest. We don't know how many persons of interest they have right now but days ago they said they had "a", ie one.

We see right there, plain as day, how KD is twisting the detective's words, it's like an automatic reflex.

Certainly no named suspects. Could be tomorrow or in ten years before they have evidence for an arrest. MOO
