Another piece of info that stood out was the fact that FM couldn’t initially recall which day they returned from Japan…… I understand if the trip was the year prior, but come on. You don’t forget which day you arrived back home, jet lag or no jet lag. I’ve flown to and from Australia. You don’t forget that info in the days upon your return.

IIRC didn’t JS also have some confusion about his return date when he spoke to LE? IIRC he got he day wrong when he said he went out with his school friends for dinner on the night after the murders. Or,have I got that wrong?

I listened to the recent episode. Kevin Donovan is single handedly keeping this case in the spotlight. Not a peep from the family. Why aren't any of the children demanding answers?? Putting pressure on police via the media?? Giving interviews to keep the case moving forward??

Anyways, Barry had just written a scathing letter to Honey shortly before the murder. Is that just a coincidence? Also interesting to note that the walking man is thought to be the look out. Donovan believes that there were walkie talkies involved. This was extremely planned out, with every single detail of their lives, neighborhood, schedule and property taken into account. IMO

Had it happened while he was in Japan, I would be far more open to the argument that he was behind it. As it is, I have trouble accepting a theory that requires all of the following:

1) tell everyone you’re going to Japan to learn about cryptocurrency instead of quietly learning at home in Canada or shutting up about what you’re learning.
2) immediately upon return to Canada, hire a hit man who accepts payment in cryptocurrency (bought when? You need real money to buy crypto!)
3) schedule the hit for a time when you have no alibi and the only photo on your phone can’t be shared widely because it’s of your hand holding your crypto login of all things.
4) show the photo with the crypto login to the police and the newspaper.
5) having succeeded in this dastardly plot, write a eulogy to distract everyone.
6) profit!

Well, if the "reward" of having the Shermans murdered was worth the risk, then whoever orchestrated this must have really benefited. This was a very risky crime. IMO Which is why it took so much foresight and planning. I don't think that the hit was necessarily paid for with crypto. Wealthy people sometimes keep large sums of cash on hand, or stored away. IMO

With the Shermans, I can't think of another unsolved North American murder case on WS where so many people, dare I say the consensus, believe the killer is foreign.

Myself I have not come to this conclusion.

My impression has always been more in line with jealousy and or revenge.

Lately discussion around JS ex boyfriend who has left Canada gave me thought that if he were the culprit he may have wanted to kill BS & HS and frame JS for it. If someone was out for pure revenge follow the money as was suggested in the early years investigations may not lead to where the truth lies.

Again big if, he was the culprit he would have gotten his full revenge, he was already cut off from the Sherman fundings he had been receiving for years, now the whole family who shunned him would suffer.

Oh, that's interesting. I didn't know that the two broke up. This was the man JS was in a relationship with during the time of the murder?

If someone was out for pure revenge follow the money as was suggested in the early years investigations may not lead to where the truth lies.

Very good point. I think people assume that the killer's motivation was financial, given how massively rich the victims were. You're right, though; if the motivation was hate and jealousy, it could be harder to pin. I'm thinking of long simmering or seemingly buried resentments that have motivated people to do crazy things.

One case that comes to mind is that of Alan and Kathy Likness. Douglas Garland murdered them after harbouring a grudge against Alan for nearly a decade. The two men had previously done business. Tragically, the Likness' sweet little grandson was over at their home for a sleepover and Garland ended up killing him, too.

But back to the Shermans case. Many people believe it was Barry who was the intended target, with Honey as collateral damage. However, it was Honey who was hit about the head. The killer(s) knew their schedule. Surely they could've chosen a more opportune time and place if they only wanted Barry dead. I mean, why not a quick shot to the head as Barry got out of his vehicle?

I wonder what had been brewing, and seemingly bubbling over, from within the Sherman family. Barry had recently accused Honey of abusing not only him, but their children. Barry wasn't the type of man to level such an accusation against his wife without considerable forethought, IMO. I would like to know what had prompted this behaviour. Was there a trigger? Their dynamic in their marriage seemed a bit off JMO.

Then there's the fact that they were murdered in such a bizarre fashion. The FBI spends a considerable amount of time analyzing the crime scene because they say it gives clues to a killer's motivation. The decision not to use a gun, and instead murder them in such an up close manner... was it all just an elaborate attempt at staging a murder suicide? Maybe the killer(s) thought the confusing scene would give them enough time to flee the country.

However, IMO, there's a reason why the killers chose ligature strangulation as their murder method. Studies have shown that in cases of strangulation murders, when the offender uses a ligature on their victim, chances are they don't know them personally. However, when manual strangulation is applied, more often than not, the victim is atleast an acquaintance. Interestingly, strangulation is predominant in killings involving a sexual motive and/or element.

So what does the chosen murder method say about the killer(s)? What clues can be gleaned from the killer(s) modus operandi? The staging of his victims bodies, for instance. Kevin Donovan has been quite clear in his assertion that both Honey and Barry were deliberately posed to match the basement sculptures.

Good points, Bobbi. However, did the ex-boyfriend (Andrew Liss) have the financial resources to fund such an extensive and costly operation? Especially with no expectation of a future financial return.

Jealousy and revenge are great motives, but you still need the money (I am guessing many hundreds of thousands of dollars) to fund an operation like this. Secondly revenge and jealousy tend to be personal motives and the revenge taker is often present during the crime. I certainly hope the TPS checked his alibi.
