I guess I’ll point out that if you don’t assume the murderer is the immediate heir, other motives become possible.Interesting supposition.
If only Honey was the target, the estate would have gone to Barry.
With Barry still alive, the Police would consider him the #1 suspect. If the intention was to only kill Honey, then was the plan to stage her body alone?
Because of the staging involved, for both bodies, I think both Sherman's were targeted from the outset, and the murderer(s) were willing to wait for Barry, whenever he got home.
It is hard for me to see a motive for killing Honey alone, by anybody other than her spouse. Since the evidence at the scene does not support Barry killing Honey, and then himself, I believe both were targeted from the outset.
No real financial benefit to Barry to kill Honey either, as he already controlled the finances.

Here’s a theory I don’t personally believe, but that would leave you with the same murderer many suspect. (As I think is obvious, I do not think any of the heirs murdered the Shermans.)
Barry was telling everyone who would listen that he did not want to move. He thought 50 OCR was worth more than it was, and he did not think there was a need to move to Honey’s dream home. He was going along with it for her. At the same time, he had a liquidity problem. He was calling loans and cutting people off financially while speaking about gifting a large sum to Honey that might have gone directly to her sister.
What if one of those people thought that getting Honey out of the way would return Barry to his usual generosity? And what if that person would also benefit from framing Barry for murdering Honey? That person might be in a position to believe they would be able to control Barry’s entire fortune if he was imprisoned, and then inherit at Barry’s death.
I don’t think this (well, I don’t think the last part). But if the murderer is indeed a spiteful money-hungry heir, this would be the fastest way to get their evil hands on the cash without tying it up in probate for years.
