He also called Trump's analysis and roll out as "bush league". Despite having good solid advisors, his choices did not fufill solid principles or credibility.
Someone else pointed out, most world leaders don't use printed posterboards (reminds me of the 'giant check' prop) as a visual aid to physically, point at with his finger... Which no one - including TV cameras - could read the tiny print. The suggestion is, it was printed up for him to look at during lunch, and he loved it.

Picture (or look up) Steve Jobs's 2007 Iphone announcement. Then, imagine his grade 8 science fair presentation...

Trump used unrelated number to make false statements about tariffs. Then he argued with people who see through his nonsense. He went so far as to dishonestly use a formula with Greek symbols that he doesn't understand to really confuse people. Still, no one is confused, so he goes golfing.

No point in having a conversation with someone like that.
No point in playing golf with him either, he'll always win!

Yes, Cedars, I think you are exactly right about that printed posterboard with the highest tariff on the first line, and countries of decreasing interest to Trump on down.

Yes, I recall that during his first term, his advisors had to be very careful to explain issues on one page, only with fairly large print, and preferably with photos or graphs.

He would just stop paying attention at all to the issue at hand if was not a quick glance kind of presentation.

And then there is Sharpiegate in 2019. A blatantly misrepresented presentation done with his sharpie pen.
The meteorologists had to correct that one ... "the hurricane will NOT hit Alabama"

No wonder some watched his tariff presentation carefully, and fact checked it. imo

Trump shows fake hurricane map in apparent bid to validate incorrect tweet

I just want to stop for a moment and recognize all the incredibly smart people on this thread. I really, really wish you were the ones running our government. IMO

You have not referred to the actual problem .... why is America in so much debt. ? This, surely, is no one else's problem or fault, not even the strictest MAGA Trumper could hold that position with any credibility.... why would these tariffs, and the accompanying insults and slurs from your leader change that inherent problem that Americans appear to have, which is, the habitual propensity to fall into debt.

Personal debt, national debt, state debt, town debt. It's like a drug, in many ways, and like most drug addicts the reason is always some one else's fault, ' I was told to take it'.. ' I liked the look of it ' ; I had hoped it would soothe my nerves ..... ' ' I like myself better when I am high'.... All this and so much more.... can Americans prevent themselves from falling into huge debt? Is there the political will in the USA to achieve this?? if not, and I suspect there is not, nothing, nothing will change.

In fact, this current program is going to increase personal, state, town, national debt like never before... once recession hits, it's game over for the USA.

As they say, make sure the pilot is sober and qualified and in particular, sane.. , then there'll be no need to worry about the oxygen mask..
Part of it is all the wars we have funded over the years. Then we fund the rebuilding of other countries. A virus originating it China hits and tack on another 3 trillion. Not to mention funding of a myriad of USAID projects. I’m oversimplifying here, it’s endless.

Brace for impact!

So if US produces its goods abroad and then sells them from US, would companies be liable to a double or triple tariff?

I wish our Gov. would do something similar. West Coast Democratic states unite. Hmmm.
since the administration has hollowed out the federal govt, this should be interesting

Yes, agree, also appreciate the good humour and camaderie.

This is what happens when people making decisions have no idea what money means, because they've always had plenty.

It's never been a more appropriate time for this:

The US is not in your wars alone. Neither is the US alone in rebuilding other countries, fighting a virus, extending aid to other countries. Other countries (like mine) have been right there with the US. Spending our own countries monies in our efforts.

Yet we are now "ripping off the US", "some of the worst offenders" according to Trump. The tariffs are the thanks we get. America First.

imo

Rolling Stone online April 4, 2025 article by Nikki McCann Ramirez and Asawin Suebsaeng entitled “Trump Shares Video About How He is ‘Purposely Crashing the Stock Market’”:

The article states that allies of the president and ex-officials told Rolling Stone they were “at a loss for words” when asked about the video.

Whether or not this is being done either deliberately or by other means, needs to IMO be investigated. And if other action needs be taken to prevent such or correct for it that is also IMO warranted.

And if any action is deliberate this is affecting people’s financial soundness and well being. SMH. MOO
IMO he's saying it's on purpose to save face for totally screwing everything up. "I meant to do it!"

I am not sure which I wish to be the case @LoveyG ….. neither is good IMO. If deliberate that means one thing. If ‘accidental’ another. (And I am not convinced of the latter.) Either IMO is reprehensible.

And from past experience with this individual, and IMO many around him, a mistake is never admitted. Just ‘double down’. Thus the real ‘truth’ is never known. Actually quite dangerous IMO. SMH. MOO

I’m genuinely curious as to why you don’t support USAID? Are you just against some of the projects they fund or against it as a whole? USAID is one of the most important things we fund (or I guess used to fund; since it’s been disassembled now) IMO because it’s creates global stability, economic growth for developing democratic countries, global and national health and disease prevention and education. The budget for USAID is such a small number in terms of our overall budget - $21.7B in 2024, which is literally 0.7% of the total budget, and it really solidifies the United States “soft power” worldwide which in my opinion is very important. The things that USAID provides are literally all things I WANT my taxes to go towards. All MOO.

What's the beef about beef? Or, everything you wanted to know about trade in beef from Australia to the US - and why it doesn't flow the other direction - but didn't know to ask. (It's actually pretty interesting.)

MOO
oh... another reason for DJT to try to annex Canada- the cows will be "in the US" their whole lives and then we can send them to AUS....

As journalism and reporting and media broadcasting is all controlled by human beings, there clearly has to be a filter introduced to screen the amount of writing that actually makes it to the public. If you want a bot or AI to do that, you are going to end up with a huge gmish of quasi-information that is based on frequency of terms or comments.

So if you have a human editor of a newspaper, a journal, a magazine, a broadcast program you inherintly do have to have some kind of bias.

Some biases are just more rational than others. You have to pick and choose what you expect to see, hear, or read.
having AI edit may not resolve the issue because guess who programs AI? yes people! and the large language models "learn" from the writing of.... yeah, people. us again.

Meanwhile, Trump is celebrating.

"China played it wrong, they panicked — the one thing they cannot afford to do!" he posted in capital letters.

In case anyone wondered if he was watching the Stock Market crash and second guessing. He's triumphant. I hope that's a comfort to everyone who's going to lose their shirts today and in the future.

MOO
everything is just a big game to him
he has his golf
he has his diet coke
none of his chaos touches him personally

The Trump tariffs only apply when products arrive on US soil. Those tariffs are paid by the American importer.

I'm not sure what you mean by "US produces its goods abroad". Do you mean American owned companies who operate in other countries? If so, then those products will incur a tariff when they arrive on US shores according to the percent prescribed by Trump for the exporting country.

People tend to evaluate bias based on the idea that their own opinions are the perfect bar from which to measure all things.
