Apart from profiting personally from the presidency, he's also trying to build a legacy, to be remembered for making revolutionary changes. In return, he expects to have things/places named after him. So far, he's just been breaking stuff.
The thing about legacies is they happen after you’re dead so you can’t profit from them!

I don’t think he has dementia. He has always been a cruel person and that has been ramped up. I am so glad we have Carney in charge right now because he is obviously very smart and I think that intimidates Trump. He can’t speak to Carney like he would to Ford or Poilievre, neither of which have the experience Carney has.

Carney understands money and economies. It is his big advantage over money-loving Trump.

imo

He is now basking in the idea that his name will be on people's lips long after he is gone. He envisions his supporters, not his critics.

I think he's putting tariffs on all sorts of places to stop some countries using those places names to evade tariffs.
Ie say it's not made in China, it's made in Penguin Island or The Keelings etc.
And I think that's why some smaller Asian countries have been hit harder, to stop China using them to get around the tariffs.

It's the only thing that kind of makes sense.

Whoever came up with the list needs to be fired. It lacks logic, which we expect from Trump. It lacks common sense. It's cruel. It's pointless. It's not going to have people in the USA rolling in the money - so much money they won't know how to spend it. It achieves nothing good.

It's tariffs on penguins and uninhabited Inlands, which suggests it was created with artificial intelligence that lacks data to produce the list.

AI might explain why Russia, Canada and Mexico were not included - AI sees Russia as powerful, while Canada and Mexico are necessary. All other countries and uninhabited Islands were fair game.

I'm curious how much Trump has relied on artificial intelligence for so many random, self-destruction orders he has signed. AI would explain the speed at which he signs order. It's too fast for anyone who spend time thinking it over before signing.

Tariffs on penguins means that something is seriously wrong with the USA government and with the mental ability of the president.
I think someone else comes up with the executive orders and he just signs them. I'm thinking of the video of him reading, and signing the EO for paper straws and the fellows behind him just giggling away. I imagined they stuck that in and thought it was hilarious that he actually signed it.

(I'll look for the video) (found a video and the laughing hyena is none other than Lutnik!)

Anyway, it makes me think of helping my father with dementia manage his bills. I'd make out the check and just put it in front of him to sign, "this is the water bill", "this is the electric bill" etc.

Yikes his face frightened me!

Smart people don't want anything to do with him. He's volatile, doesn't listen and isn't willing to learn.
If you look in the dictionary and find the word chaos- you will find Trump's name right next to it. He is the King of chaos---and that is his goal: he loves chaos- lives for it.

That was just an example, because it was said that maybe Trump tariffed the penguins to stop anyone from using their island as a tariff loophole.

Awh, yes. I am sure you are exactly right. I just wanted to clarify this in case anyone thought that all the US imports now would be coming through Canada or Mexico in order to bypass the tariffs. It just isn't possible.

I can only stand listening to him on Mary Trumps Youtube channel, where his voice sounds like a Chipmunk.

I guess when you tick off all of your allies you have to tariff a remote Arctic island in Aussie territory, just to make sure that the US Customs agents know that the penguins aren't producing that steel and aluminium in their big manufacturing plant, it is those shifty Australians doing it.

His chapter in the history books is not going to be good, that's for sure.

Will there be another round of tariffs, there are plenty more tiny islands where no one lives.

My apologies, someone most likely lives there, birds, lizards, seals, insects etc.

I see that the US Senate passed a resolution on Wednesday night that rejects Trump's 25% tariff against Canada. It was a 51-48 vote result because four Republicans backed the Democrat's resolution (despite Trump's rumblings about that on his personal social media platform).

Republicans join Democrats in Senate vote to rescind Trump Canada tariffs

BUT Speaker Mike Johnson already said that he will never introduce the resolution into the House.

He noted that Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has already said he’s never bringing the resolution to the House floor.
GOP braces for potential defeat on Trump tariff bill
I heard Rachel Maddow discuss this- it is so sick and sickening that Mike Johnson is going to actually prevent the train wreck that Trump is doing to the economy-- I cannot believe there is no way around him- but apparently there isn't. I have always been of the belief in life that there is always a way around something that is difficult or what seems impossible- and yet, one little pip-squeak can be the cause of destruction of our economy! it is too much -

Stocks cratered Thursday after President Donald Trump unveiled sweeping tariffs of at least 10% and even higher for some countries, raising the risks of a global trade war that hits the already sputtering U.S. economy.

The S&P 500 dropped 3.4%, putting it on track for tis worst day since September 2022. The Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 1,200 points, or more than 2%. The Nasdaq Composite slid 3.8%.

Shares of multinational companies tumbled in premarket trading. Nike and Apple dropped 11% and 7%, respectively. Big sellers of imported goods were among the hardest hit. Five Below lost 16%, Dollar Tree tumbled 11%, and Gap plunged nearly 12%. Tech shares dropped in an overall risk-off mood, with Nvidia off 5% and Tesla also down 5%.
