How Canada showed Trump that intelligence matters, with a coordinated takedown of US bonds:

Is that believable? In theory, it's possible, but Carney has been on the campaign trail for the last few days, not busy with government business. There has been one phone call between Carney and Trump that we are aware of - at the request of Trump. That ended with a pause in trade discussions until after the election, no pause on tariffs. This "influencer" claims that Carney spoke to Trump recently. Canadians haven't heard anything about that. He suggests that Carney has been scheming with Japan and the EU regarding bonds. When did he have time for that?

I looked for links during that video, but it looks like it's all twitter remarks, which we know means unverified gossip, rumour and wishful thinking.

Have you seen any media links to confirm allegations that Prime Minister Carney orchestrated manipulation of the bond market?

I want it to be correct. Let me look around. This guy is with Meidas Touch Network.

ETA: I've not found corroboration.

Trump tariff collection for freight shipments delayed by Customs ‘glitch’

An alert from U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Friday notified users of a glitch in the system that is used to exempt freight from tariffs, including shipments from China that were already on the water at the time of this week’s whipsaw in tariffs policy, and any trade from nations now under the 90-day pause put in place by the Trump administration.

The alert explained that U.S. Customs discovered that the entry code for U.S. shippers to use to have their freight exempted is not working and “the issue is being reviewed.”

In the alert, US Customs advised filers “to transmit cargo release separately and follow up with the summary filing when resolved.”

Normally, when a U.S. importer pays for their freight, they file both the cargo release forms and their financial papers, so they can pay for their cargo. To keep the cargo moving, Customs is advising importers to file the cargo release form now, and file the financial form later, once the glitch is corrected.

For now, that means the tariffs are not being collected by the U.S. government.

[...]

For U.S. shippers and the supply chain, it’s the latest blow at a time of uncertainty and fear about tariffs policy. It also raises questions about Customs ability to handle the new policy and collect the tariffs revenue that is key to Trump administration economic goals. Interpretations of the multiple executive orders, social media posts, and customs alerts have some U.S. companies and industry groups trying to figure out when the new tariffs will be deployed.

Despite President Trump saying numerous times tariffs are in effect, including the China tariffs and a 10% tariff applied globally, and being collected, U.S. shippers tell CNBC they have not been charged higher tariff rates on their containers, some of which came in as late as yesterday.

A cursory check of Woolworths shows multiple brands of both Californian and Australian walnuts. So, check the labels. Their Macro branded one especially very boldly is 'Australian Walnuts '.

As a baker, I think it's worth considering buying Australian and using them quickly. One of the reasons walnuts end up bitter is, essentially, we don't eat them fresh and they get more and more bitter the longer they sit on the shelf. If you buy a smaller quantity of local and use them promptly, they're far less likely to be bitter and give a good flavour to your cooking.

MOO
I keep nuts in the freezer and they last a long time.

Very interesting

China appears to own a lot of US treasuries held by custodian foreign countries and may be partly behind the bond selling that is really disrupting the US stock and bond markets. These do not appear as financial moves by China, rather by the custodal country. Increased US treasury selling has been noted in Europe. China may be using Ireland as a custodial company.

Perhaps China's subtle manouvers on bonds undermined the USDollar, and spooked Trump and will continue to plague him.

China plays a long, cold, hard game. Trump is no match for them.

Ottawa’s warning for Canadians to expect extra scrutiny when travelling to the United States extends to snowbirds who spend part of the year south of the border, according to a Calgary-based tax expert who specializes in cross-border tax issues.

“With the Trump administration appearing to be upsetting the status quo on many things, it’s only logical that Canadian snowbirds might be concerned about whether or not the methods that they enter the U.S. will be changing or subject to more scrutiny,” says Kim Moody, CEO of Moodys Tax.

Automotive plant closures begin. Some layoffs now, then closed until October, then half staff. Car prices are going to soar!

"The General Motors CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ont., will shut down next month with plans to reopen in the fall at half capacity.

The company said in a statement Friday that production is coming to halt as a direct result of the market and available inventory to build the BrightDrop electric delivery vehicles manufactured at the plant.

"CAMI is making operational and employment adjustments to balance inventory and align production schedules with current demand," GM said in a statement.

"GM remains committed to the future of BrightDrop and the CAMI plant and will support employees through the transition."

“Hartman admits that nearly half of his business comes from selling honey to the federal government for use in food banks and at schools as part of a program that was suddenly halted by the Department of Agriculture (USDA) without any warning as part of its efforts to streamline government spending.”

And even still, “he does not blame Trump personally”.

The Trump administration is like little children play acting as grown ups. I picture them in over sized shoes and dress shirts down to their knees. The women with lipstick all over their faces.

USA recession with the year, dropping USA dollar value, USA government is the cause.

"It is remarkable that the dollar and the stock market are falling at the same time. It shows that investors have lost confidence in the US," says Philip Marey, US analyst at Rabobank.
...

Experts point to one factor in particular: the behavior of the American government. The import duties make imported goods more expensive for consumers in the US. This leads to people spending less, which causes less economic growth. An economic recession is therefore becoming an increasingly realistic scenario.
...

Goldman Sachs estimates there is a 45 percent chance that the US will be in a recession within a year . Investment bank JP Morgan has also raised its risk forecast , from 40 to 60 percent."

It is not normal that the dollar and the stock markets are diving at the same time: 'Confidence gone'

Artists and musicians, like Neil Young, are cancelling foreign tours (outside the USA) because they are afraid they'll be detained and run into problems returning to the USA. They are concerned that their former "freedom of speech" comments will result in arrest.

The USA is becoming a dangerous place to visit, and a dangerous place for USA citizens to cross their own borders.

Who does he blame? Himself? Or does he have a Trump-designated scape goat?
Some believe that the hardship is temporary and absolutely necessary for an eventual victory. Those people assume that Trump and co know what they are doing and work for the greater good of their voters.

The USA government is falsifying Disease Control data. Professionals want to leave the USA and view Canada as a safe choice. It sounds like a crazy dystopian science fiction, but it's reality in the USA.

The authoritarian government appears to have a vision where everyone is deprived of rights and information, fearful of crossing the border, and doomed to live in an oppressed society. The government is destroying the value of the USA dollar, crashing stock market retirement funds, and preventing free trade and fair access to international markets,

"Gunter calls abortion access a canary in a coal mine, describing it as a way for governments to marginalize and control half the population.

"I would say to every Canadian who is listening to this: You should be looking up the voting records of whoever you're voting for in the upcoming election and see how they have voted on bills related to reproductive rights," she said. "If they voted to take your reproductive rights away, they're going to vote to take other rights away as well."
...

"We've seen slashes to their research funding. We've seen trusted sources of information like the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] have their websites being controlled and manipulated by government," Reimer, a Winnipeg physician who was previously the medical lead of Manitoba's COVID-19 vaccine task force, told CBC News on Thursday.

"We've also seen their data sets being altered in a way that makes it harder for us to trust the numbers that are coming out of their tracking."

He's going to become so rich, he's not gonna know where to spend all that money. I'm telling you—just watch!
