I wonder what level and type of employment Trump might be able to find in some other country? I don't think he'd rise very far in China. But perhaps there is a third world country somewhere in need of a TV host? Or a real estate developer? I'm thinking maybe Heard Island, he wouldn't have much competition there. And he might even know where it is by now.
Nowhere with penguins. They are better dressed than he is.

China rejects Trump’s claim that Xi has called him by phone

this is a bit embarrassing!

on a different note, i truly wonder who european countries would side with when it comes to choosing between china and the united states. i saw an economist from a major dutch bank on tv talking about this hypothetical scenario (which he said wasn’t necessarily likely, but it’s one of five scenarios they have analysed to predict different possible outcomes for the dutch economy in the coming years), he expected the EU, australia and south korea and japan to still side with the US, while african, south american and other asian countries might side with china. hopefully it won’t come to this scenario at all, where the whole world is divided into two and countries are forced to take a side! but it made me wonder if we’re too quick to say “no one wants to do trade with the US anymore anyway”

I absolutely love the fact that the Chinese are calling out Trump for lying!!

Chinese leader Xi Jinping has not spoken to US President Donald Trump on the phone recently, Beijing said Monday, reiterating that no talks are taking place between the two countries to resolve their tariff war.

The statement from a Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson is an outright rejection of Trump’s claim in an interview with Time magazine last week that Xi had called him, as the world’s two largest economies remain locked in a dispute over sky-high trade levies.

My partner he loved nestle splash flavoured water this year the plant in Ontario closed down now no nestle water products are sold in Canada for two reasons the first and biggest is Canadians complained protested a lot about nestle having any water rights in Canada and selling it back to us at a huge price increase a lot of people protested the company and because of taxes and tariffs. Canadians do have the voice to decide what we want in Canada I wonder how many other American companys will be gone due to tariff fallout .

a bit of background of your man Li Chenggang...

I like that! It is important to point out that the USA has been living beyond it's means to enjoy an unjustified quality of life, and that the notion of trying to force the global community to pay that debt through threats, intimidation, and economic assault is beyond acceptable.

Canada is forced to trade with the USA because there has been an 80 year cooperative trade relationship between the two countries. It's impossible to extract either country from the other. The USA relies on Canadian electricity, both hydro and oil. The automotive industry was intentionally distributed over Canada/USA/Mexico to maximize labour and expertise objectives since 1965. None of that can be reset in less than a decade or two.

The USA and Asia have a similar trade relationship. It was cheaper to manufacture almost everything in Asia, so USA companies established manufacturing in Asia.

The USA Government is trying to use those trusted relationships to extort a tax to pay-off the trillions of dollars in debt. It's rude.

I expect that, over the next couple of decades, countries like Canada will diversity trade to ensure that the country is never again in the situation it is in today with the USA.

Yes. With every new US President one could expect talk of decreasing governmental bloat and inefficiency and review of trade partners and practices. And usually with every new President the effects of both were pretty mild.

#47 has upturned everything in US trade now, intentionally, without any idea of real attainable goals or how to fix everything that he completely broke apart, most notably an 80 year old mutually beneficial relationship with Canada and an extremely dependent role with China.

I think there will be a serious ugly period where the US corporate and consumer confidence is at bottom-rung level while shortages and price hikes make very difficult choices reverberate in the most vulnerable populations. I really worry that low-income seniors will find savings depleted and Social Security not covering living expenses, places like nursing homes with serious depletion of healthcare supplies and food. Children from low-income families not getting meals properly, the salt-of-the-earth people being disadvantaged the most.
The Mar-A-Lago crowd will still be bragging about their stock or gold purchases during the unstable markets, their newest home purchases, their hapless children's private schools.

I think it is going to be ugly for a long time.

Make no mistake- Trump and his wealthy friends don't care a whit about the suffering they are wreaking on so many people- here and around the world. Frankly, i believe that Trump enjoys inflicting pain- in his mind it is evidence of his power

This unethical foreign government is trying to interfere with Canada's Election!

Look at that greedy statement. Canada is the second largest country in the world and the USA Government desperately wants that beautiful land mass to boost the status of the USA from the fourth largest country. Just another a envious loser!

I honestly think that most all in the US Government would not have come up with this crazy and offensive 51st state stuff if it wasn't for Trump fulfilling the hidden agenda he has.

Certainly, any reasonable economic advisor (that leaves out Navarro and Thiel) would not have said to cut off a massive trade treaty to spite your face. Nor would they have used such offensive and schoolyard-bully language when dealing with a safe and secure, former, partner.

They would have worked on mutually-beneficial trade, oil, electrical, and minerals exporation projects. Not trying to grab the wheel and force cooperation at gunpoint. That never works, even in the movies.

Also, any and all DJT statements must now be viewed in the context of his failure to intimidate China or Canada, and having the Asian Pacific and the EU look seriously at different trade alignments.

It's all a blowhard bully failing at his game and needing someone, something to land on.

Trump is a fake, a coward, and a criminal. Bad combination for the US.

Is he asking Canadians to write in his name on the ballot?

I understand that some want to separate Donald Trump from the election results, and from the USA Federal Government ... to place the current economic mess at Donald's feet. I find that difficult to do.

When Justin Trudeau was Prime Minister, my experience is that no one in the USA had any difficulty labelling Canada as a "liberal" country with a "woke" population. I did not hear anyone in the USA acknowledge that Trudeau had a minority government, or that the government was split between two parties, with a third party used to form a coalition government.

Even today, it is a common statement in the USA that if Canada was a 51st state, Canadians would vote Democrat. The elected Liberal Party policy in Canada was, and is, used to label every single Canadian regardless of the almost 50% Conservative Party vote during the last election.

Today, Canadians view the elected USA President as representative of the USA Federal Government and the USA People. It's not easy to separate Donald from the government and the people ... especially since he was elected twice.

When the USA stops calling Canadians "mini-Democrats", stops claiming that as a USA state we would be "Democrats", then Canadians can reconsider viewing USA as Republicans endorsing their elected government decisions.
