They'd figure something out.
Of course. Perhaps Trump will have to send J.D. to scold them for a while, but they'll all file into line.

Because no one wants to hear those bone-chilling, terror-inducing phrases: "Without us, you don't have any cards!".

You’ll either think I’ve drunk some bizarre kool-aid 🤪 or you’ll see things a little differently by the time you finish reading this. 😳😱 Have fun! Apologies for the length.

The economy is suddenly a hot mess. This is not happening by accident or because Trump is stupid about tariffs (he is). Follow the money. Who benefits when the economy collapses? The billionaires who can buy up failed businesses cheap. This is planned destruction of the economy, educational system, federal bureaucracy, courts, etc so an autocracy can be put in place. Trump is surrounded by people who are moving things in that direction. “Move fast and break things.”

...
I know it sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory, but there are a lot of smart people writing about tnis.

...
RSBM,

It's not a crazy conspiracy theory. Not bizarre Koolaid; there's actually precedent.

It's exactly how the Russian Oligarchs actually became oligarchs. The iron curtain fell, the economy was in disarray. It's a shock to have to move to another economic system overnight with no plan in place (quite like what Trump is attempting to do now). Those with 'some' money and influence (Putin and friends etc) pillaged, plundered and bought up - dirt cheap - all the post-Soviet institutional buildings, lands and service industries etc that were 'no longer required' by the now non-existant State authorities (quite like Felon Trump and fElon Musk have recently done to the citizens of the United States' federal assets & entities) .... and enriched themselves at the expense of Russian citizens. Coming into power themselves by now controlling all those assets and services - thus the economy.

It continues to this day.

We are simply witnessing history repeat itself. 1930s Germany 'exportations' AND taken another step further with a 1990s style post-Soviet rise in the self-enrichment of the 'few' to exert power and authoritarianism over the many.

Enjoy "freedom" while you can. IMO.

Trump wants to stand out in the history books. He has achieved that - as one of the most despised presidents in history ... the looney president who put a tariff on penguins.

I think right now he is blaming China for pushing all that fentanyl into Mexico, or Canada.

No tariff on Mexico because, of course, it's Chinese fentanyl, not Mexican. 🤯
I think he's afraid of President Sheinbaum. He doesn't want to risk being made a fool of by a woman, who clearly outclasses him in every respect.

Thanks for bringing this up @Vern. My treatise was getting too long, so I skipped over the Russian oligarchs. :) I think what they did was less plotted than what we are seeing now, which IMO is the deliberate ruination of our economic system to benefit the tech bro billionaires and their ilk.

The ones in China or Vietnam or Bangladesh or Taiwan or wherever else? How would that work? Even if they were willing to let them into the US, I doubt they'd want to pay for it.

MOO

I have a feeling that some will be allowed to bring some more-senior staff with them, to train others.
Not sure how the US vehicle manufacturers will feel about this, but it may give some US people some jobs.

Nissan Motor is considering shifting some domestic production of U.S.-bound vehicles to the U.S., the Nikkei reported on Saturday, as President Donald Trump ramps up trade tariffs on nations worldwide.

As early as this summer, Nissan plans to reduce production at its Fukuoka factory in western Japan and shift some manufacturing of its Rogue SUV to the United States to mitigate the impact of Trump's tariffs, the business newspaper said, without citing the source of its information.

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed> I also think he's in serious cognitive decline, as evinced by this, among other examples:

Just got back from the local protest. There was a lady dressed up as a penguin that gave me a chuckle. Lots of good signs. We sang Holly Near's Singing for our Lives with some gender updates. Joan Baez has a song sung by the same guy.

The teacher's are pissed and when teachers are pissed in this state they get noticed. Hopeful.

We'll keep an eye on that. They require market stability in the US, which is not happening, and which cannot be entrusted to the present administration.

I would think it is a whisper in Japan at the moment. And they are weighing up the cost/profit ratios carefully.

Will it cost them less to manufacture their US market sales in the US, or will it cost them less to export the vehicles.
They will likely still have to import many materials if they manufacture their US market vehicles in the US.

And if the US people have less money to spend, will they be buying new cars anyway?

Lots to consider. And also a bit of a gamble.

imo

If I was buying a Toyota and had a choice of a vehicle built in Japan, built and assembled with oversight from Canada, the USA and Mexico, or made exclusively in the USA, I would not buy the product made exclusively in the USA.

The USA is unreliable, and will cut corners to increase personal profit. USA quality control, regulation, and government assurances are no longer in place. The government's goal is to cheat all other countries to pay USA national debt. They don't care how they get the money.

People will still buy cars that they value. Toyota has a very high reputation for quality. I have one right now and would buy a Toyota / Lexus product again. Was just looking around to see what was out there, in fact, as I would like a hybrid vehicle.

Where I am, the Japanese -built Toyta 4Runner is an enormously popular vehicle. Land Cruisers are also, but they are too expensive for most people.

Fentanyl is only the drug of today. Tomorrow it will be something else that suppliers can make in their backyard sheds (like meth).

The problem is 'at home'. And if people are losing their jobs, the problem is only going to get worse.

Manufacturing fentanyl will become, if indeed, it isn't already, a thriving cottage industry in the USA... there will be Fentanyl Associations, clubs, groups exchanging hints and tips and support.. ..

We know how much fentanyl enters the USA from Canada.

How much fentanyl enters the through East and West coast USA borders? That is, how much fentanyl enters the USA directly without going through Canada and Mexico?

How much fentanyl is produced in the USA by those 340 million people?

What percentage of all fentanyl in the USA originates from Canada, and how much is home grown?

As usual, the USA has omitted really important datasets in their complaints about Canada.
