Trump, Bessent, and Lutnik are acting like guys with a huge block of frozen clams out on a dock in a heat wave in Florida.

Basically calling out for deals like fishmongers with a rotting catch.

He tried to overturn the election by launching the big lie that the other side was cheating. Now he's trying to extort other countries using the big lie that the US is being taken advantage of by all its trading partners. His use of the terms like "worst offenders" is absurd. His actions are premised on lies.

one radio report I heard today said that clothing manufacturers who moved from China to Vietnam during DJT's last administration just do not want to move again- DJT acts as if moving manufacturing is always going to be cheaper and easier than the tariffs.... maybe not.
I am in this boat, a Canadian company that sells to the USA. We were manufacturing in China and had to move to Vietnam and Bangladesh etc. It was a LOT of work to do this. These tariffs are killing us and I may be jobless sooner rather than later.

I can understand the anger of people outside the US, but Trump is destroying his own country. Other countries can redirect their exports and imports to a degree, but the US is on the road to destruction. Taking a long perspective, this will go down in history as the destruction of a great and prosperous to country, by an insane leader who ranks with the worst of others of his ilk.

Snipped and bolded for focus

Whom no one who has the power to do so (Republicans) tried to stop.

April 9 = Trump Choked Day

It should be apparent to every country in the world that all you have to do is wait out Trump. He'll fold and call it a Beautiful Victory.

I see it more like half-legalized extortion.

Sort of like something The Mob does with their protection rackets, but on an international scale, not a neighborhood scale.

Trump is nothing more than an enabled Mob Boss. But he is not good at this. He can set up a racket but is not good on the follow-through or the long-term planning. That's why he had continuous bankruptcies in his casino business. He doesn't really understand the details in business.

He really has to rely on a squad of goons to patrol the neighborhood and do the collections. Not sure any of the people he has in top cabinet and economic / financial positions are anywhere near capable of being efficient at that. They are more the cheerleader crowd.
He should have maybe read more into what tends to happen to mob bosses and dictators.

They tend to end their reigns... abruptly.

But I'm not convinced he reads anything besides his own social media posts.

MOO

You know, it would not surprise me to find out he's doing stuff like this just to get off on watching how the power of his words send the stock market up and down.

He's very clearly deeply narcissistic. I doubt he enjoys anything better than feeling a godlike power over the great systems and structures of the world.

I'm waiting for a congressman or woman to sponsor a bill mandating a full and extensive mental health examination for all presidential candidates.

The US is not a serious country anymore. Trump is the world's biggest time waster.

Yep, I was waiting for this. China took the bait. imo

President Trump announced Wednesday that his heightened “reciprocal” tariff scheme was being paused for 90 days in response to overtures from dozens of countries — but duties on Chinese imports would be ratcheted up to 125% due to a “lack of respect” from Beijing.

They all screeched about Biden needing to take a cognitive test but once DJT was elected, crickets.

Trump just announced that he was going to have tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals. This will be a disaster for many Americans. Generic drug prices will rise exponentially, and there's limited capacity to return manufacturing here. Patented drugs will soar. It will make health care costs rise; prior approval for common genetics will become common, or perhaps there will be no coverage at all.

Perhaps when they suffer enough, Americans will impeach him. How many are buying his BS that it's necessary to suffer on the road to great prosperity, guaranteed by him?

Unfortunately, Americans do not have the power to impeach him. Only Congress does, and it won't, because Republicans don't care as long as they stay in power.

IMO.

Congress is made of Americans. When their base gets angry enough, they will have to listen.

China didn't take any bait, it's BEEN prepared for something like this. Also, it's hilarious Trump is claiming China "disrespected" him when JD Vance referred to them as a bunch of peasants.

To Trump standing your ground against him means disrespecting him.
