China didn't take any bait, it's BEEN prepared for something like this. Also, it's hilarious Trump is claiming China "disrespected" him when JD Vance referred to them as a bunch of peasants.
China was goaded into doing exactly what it did.

China knew exactly what it was doing. China has the second biggest economy in the world and it's not going to give it up that easily. Especially to a thin skinned leader like Trump

He has made NO provisions to assure people who need insulin and other medications do not have an interruption in their supply .

This is absolutely criminal. Why are all the Republicans just crawling into holes where they can't be found?
There's an interesting report by pharmacychecker.com into where the drugs sold in the US actually come from. Far from foreign drugs being dangerous or inferior, the report makes clear that virtually all come from advanced developed economies with pharmaceutical manufacturing systems which, in some cases, are actually better than those of the US as well as being much cheaper if sourced from a reliable international pharmacy. It's worth a read.

The 90 Day "Pause" was not discussed with his official US Trade Representatives before it was announced.

Note that it is a "Pause". So this is not worth the spit used to say it. He is playing stoopid games. He can un-rescind it when he feels some other country had displeased him.

Mental illness, mental illness, get this guy out of office, now.

Congress is made of Americans. When their base gets angry enough, they will have to listen.
I don't share your optimism. I've seen too many videos of Republican politicians being yelled at by their angry constituents and the congresspeople arguing with or dismissing them. And those are the ones who have disregarded the advice to stop holding town halls.

Perhaps when they suffer enough, Americans will impeach him. How many are buying his BS that it's necessary to suffer on the road to great prosperity, guaranteed by him?
Liz Truss and lettuces come to mind.

Daily Mail claims "We Are Back" after market changes direction after announcement of 90-day pause.

Not one person thinks we are back. Anyone looking at their savings, their IRS, their 401K, the inflation rates, the pricing of new cars and homes would not think that at all.

It will take years of this kind of positive market to come back, if the US can ever get there again. No one who has to manage billion-dollar pension funds thinks this is over.

Brilliant!
Ballooning bond yields will do that. You can't buck the market.

To be honest trades with China worry me less then dealing with the USA/trump .at least you know where you stand with China. I think it's awful how people are being made to kiss the Cheetos hiney. The less trades we do with the USA the better for our country.

Donald backing down at speed with his tariff pause, but appears to be trying to switch the narrative that it is China that's the enemy in the trade war now. Has he forgotten that he only controls Fox News and that other news reporters can and do report more accurately and that coinicidentally, that news reaches people in other far more civilised and trustworthy countries than Donald's version of the US. Does he think that over 180 countries that he tariffed seriously think China disrespected the world's markets when it was Donald that used some pathetic equation and tariffed the countries across the globe.
Newsflash Donald, MAGA's may be empty between the ears but not everyone is.

A frank admission that there's no way to 'win' this. As with all confidence tricks, it is rigged.

In a Senate grilling, Democrat Mark Warner gave Trump's trade representative Jamieson Greer both barrels over the decision to "whack" Australia with a 10 per cent tariff.

...

Greer didn't dispute that the US runs a trade surplus with Australia. We're one of the few countries that buys more from the US than we send the other way.

The US Trade Representative, however, argued the US has a huge global trade deficit and "should be running up the score in Australia".

So you might as well be like China and call the con what it is out loud, than try to contort yourself into whatever impossible standard Trump demands. Because you're going to lose anyway.

How much of all this is actually constitutional?
None of it is legal. The violation of the USA-Mexico-Trade agreement was illegal. The declaration of Canada as an emergency threat due to fentanyl use in the USA was illegal. The USA mentioned 43 pounds of fentanyl entering the Canada-USA border, but neglected to state what percentage that is of total fentanyl in the USA (e.g.: locally produced and directly imported) - distortion of fact.

When the USA government Republicans had a chance to stop this, they instead enjoyed taunting Canada about 51st state. Some thought it was a negotiating tactic, while others were enjoying the thought of destroying Canada's economy. That was the moment for Republicans to stand up and stop the war. They did nothing. They continued to give Trump more dictatorship power.

That enabled Trump to continue until the elected government finally understood their mistake last week - on the day that Trump waged the same war on 195 countries. That got a reaction, but it's too late.

Yep, I was waiting for this. China took the bait. imo

President Trump announced Wednesday that his heightened “reciprocal” tariff scheme was being paused for 90 days in response to overtures from dozens of countries — but duties on Chinese imports would be ratcheted up to 125% due to a “lack of respect” from Beijing.

His billionaire friends must have let him know that destroying the market was making them lose money. JMO
