I think a number of cleverer people thought they could manipulate him enough to use him as a puppet. And yes, you can manipulate him easily. But he's also pathologically impulsive, spiteful, and stubborn. Capricious, in that his best friend one day is his worst enemy the next.

And this is the man in power for the next four years.

I think a bunch of very rich people who were happy a few months ago are watching their stocks and shares fall and beginning to feel something like fear.

IMO you are being too kind.

"One of history's greatest acts of self-harm " ... echoes Chrystia Freeland calling Trump tariffs on Canada "self-mutilation" 3 months ago.
Donald saying Xi Jinping has been a friend of his for a long time, is um 👀
Who needs enemies when Donald is on your friends list.

Australia has rejected China’s offer to “join hands” and fight back against Donald Trump’s tariffs.
(…)
However, Defence Minister Richard Marles was quick to reject the offer, saying Australia – which was hit with 10 per cent tariffs on goods imported to the US – would focus on diversifying its trade.

“We’re not about to make common cause with China, that’s not what’s going to happen here,” Mr Marles told 9News.
Richard is on his way out.. You have to understand for whom that information was for. It was not for China's information, ,it would have been discussed with the Chinese Ambassador to AU, Xiao Qian, a very astute bloke , and an afficionado of Yarralumla.. . That info was for ol' JD 'imself. .... we need a bit of breathing space, because, like Canada we are coming up to Federal elections, which you are not expected to know, but neither Mr Carney, nor Mt Albanese, 'Albo" can make official International statements while they are officially in ';CARETAKER MODE"

This is a mode that Americans would not understand, and is complex to explain, so I'll just leave it there.

Yes, if you read further I already posted about the rejection of the offer.

I keep a variety of nuts on-hand - pine nuts, pecans, walnuts, etc. I needed walnuts yesterday. Walnuts from Ontario! No, walnuts don't grow in Ontario. California walnuts are exported to Ontario, then packaged and distributed in Canada. I did not buy walnuts. I'll go without until the war ends.
Well, I know one of our industries that is perking up in Australia is our almond industry, which might step in to supply countries if people stop buying American. It looks like we grow walnuts, too. Don't know if we export many, but it might be worth looking out for them, just in case!

Hope so! Canadians need a new, reliable supplier of healthy nuts.

I guess the question Trump needs to ask himself is whether breaking the system will have the outcome he wants. Today, it doesn't look like it. If he fails, will he be out of a job?

I feel sorry for California. Gavin Newsom has gone head to head with Trump at least several times that I am aware of. Trying to do the best for his state.

Newsom has never been afraid to speak out against Trump's words and actions.
True, but the USA is one country waging war on Canada. Some Canadians are hit harder than others, some are already out of work.

Canada has between 2 and 8 weeks of vehicle inventory before tariffed vehicles arrive on car lots. We've already heard that as soon as tariff vehicles hit the Canadian market with a much higher price, used car lots will similarly increase their prices in response to an anticipated vehicle shortage. Advice is that anyone considering a car purchase in the next 12 months should act now - buy before tariff vehicles arrive. Buy today and sell in two months with a $10k profit?

Moo, it won't be the outcome he wants but Donald and his crew will say it's exactly what they wanted all along!
He should be out of a job, heck, the numpty shouldn't have been given the job in the first place. It's like watching an episode of the Simpson's with Homer in charge of the big red nuclear power button.
If he's impeached, which moo will only be a matter of time, because you know, no one wants to be ridiculed the way the States will be if this carries on, I don't think the VP will be any better either

Does anyone, anyone at all believe that 75 nations have been ringing Donald, begging for mercy???

Or even that 15 of them are turning up tomorrow at the Whitehouse in person , to wag on with Donny about their unfortunate predicament???

I do not believe one syllable of these tall tales.. I reckon he has rung up the actors union in Caifornia and hired blokes to dress up in national costume and posture about on the front lawn, not TOO close to the cameras..

An award-winning Australian comedian has cancelled a planned trip to the US after receiving legal advice that she could be stopped at the border due to her previous jokes about the Trump administration.

She planned to apply for an O-1B visa, which permits comedians to live and work in the US if they demonstrate “extraordinary ability” in the arts. But after widespread reports of people being denied entry to the US and travellers being detained, Fraser sought advice from an immigration lawyer.

“I asked [the lawyer] what I thought was a ridiculous question – that I do political satire and have a fair few jokes floating around on Elon Musk and Donald Trump, and whether that would be a risk,” Fraser told Guardian Australia.

“I thought I was being paranoid, but she said it might [pose a risk] and they’d almost certainly Google me. She said while the vast majority of people will be able to travel in and out … they’re definitely doing increased scrutinising.

“If I didn’t have two children, I might be more open to taking a risk, but the vision of me being there with a baby strapped to me and held up and hassled, or worse … I’m not up for that.”

Fraser has been a regular critic of Trump as a contributor to political podcasts and radio shows, telling the Sydney Morning Herald in 2020: “I wouldn’t take an IOU from Trump if he wrote it on the money he owed me.”

( Alice, they have no sense of humor these days , poor wretches... don't be throwing strawberries to you-know-what...)

Unfortunately, he has been impeached twice before and still was not removed from his position.

Donald Trump was impeached twice during his single term in office. In each case, he was acquitted on all counts by the Senate.

Nope.

I keep looking for articles that tell me who has been calling (hence I found the NZ article further back about NZ seeking strategic trade relationships in phone calls with others).

From what the US articles say, there are a handful of countries that are wanting to consult further with the US.

This CBC report released yesterday explains why young men in Canada are leaning towards Conservative. The primary reason is reaction to woke ideology that consumed society for a few years. Additionally, because equal rights for women are more or less in place in Western societies (60 years after 1960s women's liberation), men feel that they are the unheard, under-valued and under-privileged. They see Trump and right-wing politics as their path to the man's man and the restoration of their place in society as home-owners, father, provider.

That may well be the demographic group that put a game show host in charge of the USA.

Those who live with entitlement and undue privilege feel that they lose something when confronted with equal rights.

I have a feeling that the US might tariff itself right out of the world trade market.
