Trump stating it costs US $200 billion to "support" Canada (around 15 mins ago)

There's other stuff too, to much to unpack sometimes.
And aligning with Russia!

So, trade is "support" now.

Trump has again depicted trade between the US and Canada as a form of the US granting “support” to the country’s northern neighbour.
Experts have also argued that it is inaccurate to depict a trade deficit as a “subsidy”.

Is it going to work, though? The impression I get of the Chinese leadership is that they are livid with Trump and want to utterly humiliate him.

I doubt that the Chinese leadership want to utterly humiliate Trump. It isn't necessary because Trump can manage that without Chinese intervention. I expect that the Chinese will respond in a way that is much more subtle and intelligent.

"China criticizes countries supporting US in trade negotiations.

'We will not accept'.

1745449913933.webp

China has warned
that it will crack down on countries that strike deals with the U.S. that harm Beijing's interests.

A Chinese Commerce Department spokesman said
countries that give in to the U.S. in trade talks over President Donald Trump's tariffs face consequences.

'China will never accept this
and will resolutely take countermeasures',
He Yadong said.

  • China accuses countries of pandering to US: China's Commerce Department has expressed displeasure at countries it believes are pandering to US pressure in trade negotiations.
  • New tariffs on Chinese goods: Trump administration has imposed tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese imports, and in some cases they could rise to 245%.
  • Negotiations with trading partners: The U.S. is in talks with trading partners, including Japan and South Korea, on tariffs.

How is China reacting to US actions?

China's Commerce Department has responded sharply
to reports of US pressure on other countries to curtail trade with China,

BBC reports.

'Submission does not bring peace,
and compromise does not bring respect',
the spokesman He Yadong said.

China has stressed that all sides should stand for justice
and defend international trade rules."

Much more in the link

The USA President is either intentionally misleading his people with propaganda, or he's lost his marbles and doesn't know what he's talking about. Neither option is good.

The USA President does not know the difference between "subsidy" and "trade deficit". The man appears to be ignorant regarding basic finances.

According to the USA President, the USA subsidizes the sovereign country of Canada (100% FALSE), but he can't keep his imaginary numbers straight:
  1. December 2024: $100 Billion
  2. March 2025: $250 Billion
  3. April 2025: $200 Billion
"U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that his country subsidizes Canada with hundreds of billions of dollars every year has become a key plank in his argument for annexing the country. But do his numbers add up?

The amount of "subsidy" Trump claims the U.S. provides Canada has varied over time. In December, he said it was $100 billion US. And he claimed it was $200 billion as recently as Thursday.

The amount of "subsidy" Trump claims the U.S. provides Canada has varied over time. In December, he said it was $100 billion US. And he claimed it was $200 billion as recently as Thursday.

"We can't do that anymore," he told an audience at the World Economic Forum last month as he put the deficit at $250 billion. "You can always become a state, and if you are a state we won't have a deficit. We won't have to tariff you."
...

That gap between imports and exports left the U.S. with a $63-billion US trade deficit with Canada last year, down from just over $64 billion US in 2023."

It looks like Trump having a meltdown and lashing out after China told him to get lost. I guess he'll take another whack at Greenland tomorrow.

Is this all this administration is going to be for the next few years?
Petulant behaviour when they don't get their own way or when they've been caught out in lies, illegality, etc and so on.
Switching from China, Illegal immigrants, Canada, Greenland, Zelensky, tariffs - then the cycle starts again, China, immigration, Canada, Greenland and on and on in a never ending groundhog day. Except for bank holidays where we can expect signalgate #3 and 4 and 5. On and on. Driving the taxpayer into the ground, ruining democracy, America financially insecure.
Are they actually going to do anything good for their country and citizens?

Trump is the kind of bully who can never apologize or appear to have a weak position. So, when things are not going his way, he has to start another fight to distract everyone.

Right now there are a lot of problems with his alien exportation to Ecuadorian jails program. He has likely had a big warning from his meeting with Walmart, et al about tariffs that the real takehome was fix the Chinese tariffs or the congressional midterm elections are in danger of turning against him. He's also been told to back away from criticizing or threatening Fed Chief Jerome Powell, so he's worried that he will be blamed for an economic disaster if he does remove him.

I also think Secretary of Defense Hegseth is a disaster and Trump is getting concern from inside the Pentagon that he has to get rid of Hegseth and move on to some other flunkie. Trump has already given the "I'll never quit him" statement which usually begins the downhill slide to the exit door. Latest is that dirt-clod dumb Hegseth had Signal messaging installed on a Department of Defense office computer. That would be a massive security violation.

I'm no security expert but this, coupled with the ICE Barbie having her purse with her ID, her passport, her security badges, $3000 and a bunch of blank checks stolen from underneath her chair at lunch while she was in the company of Secret Service agents makes the entire Trump cabinet look like complete idiots.

As someone very wise said upthread, Trump never claimed to be a public servant.

He is in it for himself, his finances, power, and glory.

( Sometimes, stories just write themselves.. ) .

Airplane manufacturer says it is lobbying Donald Trump over ‘unfortunate’ decision to impose tariffs... ( 'unfortunate ' is doing some heavy lifting here . Really , it's 'catastrophic ')

The US manufacturer said it was confident it could find other buyers for the planes, but said it was lobbying Trump personally to resolve an “unfortunate situation”.

Two Boeing jets have returned to the US from China, with another on the way, after the imposition of steep 125% tariffs on American imports. China imposed the levies in retaliation to the White House’s 145% rate that threatens to significantly slow down the world economy.

Kelly Ortberg, Boeing’s chief executive, said he hoped “over time these tariffs can be resolved”, in a call with investors on Wednesday. He was speaking after the company announced that losses for the first quarter of 2025 had narrowed to $31m (£23.4m), compared with $355m a year earlier.

( the trouble is.. and it's not hard to grasp it, but countries that can afford these orphan planes are also burdened with frivolous tariffs , which make folks jack up about buying anything from the USA... so it's really down to USA airlines to buy these poor little boeings, currently residing in the kill zone of aircraft, that is, having no owner. Delta, American , Spirit, Frontier, and so on.. but, they are rather strapped for cash also... ... it's a very delicate and difficult situation.. )

Dislike myself for wishing ill on him, but I hope he ends up penniless and a nobody.

My scorecard has Ukraine-Zelensky up next in the whacking rotation, then Greenland.

He might add UK or France to the lineup, too. He'll be in Italy next weekend for the late Pope Francis' funeral and this will get him back onto the topic of Euro-bashing.

He's had a swipe at Zelensky today, section on it in the AlJazeera news link upthread, so yes, Donald on Zelensky/Ukraine most likely next

The financial future for US airlines is also dicey due to tariffs. Spare parts ? Those Airbus fleets have some parts and assembly done in Moblie, AL, but the major Airbus plants are in Germany, France, Canada, and China. Tariff territory.

Also, as international travel is down in the US, so is airline revenue.

I think he is going to slither out of making any wild and whacky threats about Panama, too. Because that brings those bloody Chinese into play AGAIN and he is smarting a bit over the complete smackdown from dear old Xi, who actually only did , as followers of Sun Tzu ( the Art of War, a real best seller , knocks the Art of the Deal into a cocked hat ) usually do, sat by the river and waited for the body of his enemy to float by.

I'd imagine that domestic air travel would be taking a bit of a hit, also... .. ??

BREAKING: A new Fox News poll shows Trump has the lowest approval rating of any president at the 100-day mark.

( Looks like FOX has got the memo from Rupert.. now it begins. )

Wondering what affect the tariffs are having on Donald's golfing resorts?
Be interested if he's going to notice a difference sooner rather than later

So this is the guy that is running the entire United States military and the Department of Defense:

He installed a makeup studio in the Pentagon

I would call this Exhibit A in the definition of Your Head Up Your Assp category. Trump is gonna be so jealous.
