I don't think it's too early for FIFA and the Olympic Committee's to begin scouting around for alternative venues for the World Cup and the Olympics... People just won't come to run the risk of deportation, or imprisonment.. ... and in such a socially disrupted , and ( by then , for sure ) nationally angry population that is armed to the teeth and unregulated, and has not very good marksmanship skills, it is not an attractive proposition..

What happens if an American loses the 100 m sprint?? rioting? what happens if, again, the Americans lose to the AU, in the swim relay?? burn down the venue , drown the officials?? what happens if a Belgian equestrienne passes an American horse on the eventing, or the dressage?? shoot the horse?? chase the rider?

What happens if a Mexican beats an American in , say, boxing?? lethal rioting?? what if a Canadian does? ... Trump and his disreputable stoking of hate towards countries has made the USA a most unsuitable venue for these kinds of events...

Too risky.

I fully expect numbers from the UK to drop as well - not just families going to Florida for the theme parks but also people booking cruises which start from Miami or Fort Lauderdale or other US ports.
I'm going on a cruise but I'm flying to Europe to get it. No more Florida until things change. Even then I really wonder how I'll feel about the US if or when the dust settles. It's like being cheated on.
Trump is the problem, not China. USA farmers know this, but the rest of the population might believe Trump Propaganda. Trump's tariffs on Canada are devastating for USA farmer. That was long before he put tariffs on China.

"American farmers say U.S.-imposed tariffs on Canadian goods are having a "devastating effect" on the local agriculture sector south of the border.
...

"This was just a horrible idea," he said." Whoever thought that tariffs were good for the country, they really don't understand civics and/or economics very well." Sombke said 90 per cent of the state's potash — which is used as a fertilizer and is currently being tariffed at 10 per cent — comes from Canada, while much of its farming equipment carries a "made in Canada" stamp.
...

The 25 per cent steel tariffs could make purchases of necessary farm equipment much more expensive, he told host Marcy Markusa in a Friday interview with CBC's Information Radio.

For example, he says Canada makes good-quality no-till drills — specialized equipment that plants seeds without disturbing the soil — but their $1-million price tag would cost a U.S. farmer $250,000 more with the tariff.
...

It's still possible that Trump could reverse the tariffs yet again, but Cardwell worries it might be too late. "Even if these tariffs disappear tomorrow, that uncertainty still exists," he said. "I don't see a way to turn that around."

I have little sympathy for American farmers. They've already been burned by Trump's first administration by dismantling specific services and programs that were to alleviate issues that farmers were dealing with. Trump was more interested in agribusiness, those giant monopolies that push out individual farmers. All those tariffs that Trump crows about and how they enrich Americans were pretty well wiped out by billions in grants and other aids given to farmers to bail them out of destitution. Why on earth did they believe him this time? Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result? Whatever happens now, the ball is in Trump's court but even correcting course now might be too late for farmers planting grains and other farm produce who need potash leaving them caught in the crossfire. It's deja vu all over again. Here's a couple of links from 2020.

Here's a couple of 2024 links.

Based on that last link, no matter what happens to the little guys when amelioration occurs the big dogs always seem to win.

It never ends 😥 😤
"The Trump administration is looking at closing nearly 30 overseas embassies and consulates as it eyes significant changes to its diplomatic presence abroad, according to an internal State Department document obtained by CNN.

The document also recommends reducing the footprint at the US diplomatic missions in Somalia and Iraq — two countries that have been key to US counterterrorism efforts — and “resizing” other diplomatic outposts.

Again I want to say he cannot do that.

Really, it may not seem that way, but the majority of Americans are not MAGA and have no beef (no pun intended) with Australia or Mexico.

I think the chances of anything like the scenarios you describe actually happening are quite low.

OTOH, I wouldn't encourage any foreigner to come to the US right now.

I think it would take far more to put off the inevitable. Too many people have invested too much money in the events happening.

1936 Berlin happened despite everything going on under the Nazis.

I think the chances are far higher now than when Rudolph planted 4 bombs in Atlanta, ... ...far, far higher..

The Centennial Olympic Park bombing was a domestic terrorist pipe bombing attack on Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday, July 27, 1996, during the Summer Olympics. The blast directly killed one person and injured 111 others; another person later died of a heart attack. It was the first of four bombings committed by Eric Rudolph in a terrorism campaign against the U.S. government which he accused of championing "the ideals of global socialism" and "abortion on demand".

Security guard Richard Jewell discovered the bomb before detonation, notified Georgia Bureau of Investigation officers, and began clearing spectators out of the park along with other security guards.

Not good news for Boeing, or Boeing shareholders, or Boeing employees, or the aircraft industry in the USA.... this could be goodbye for Boeing... what a deal, hey??

China has reportedly told its biggest airlines to pause deliveries of American-made Boeing jets.

China's three biggest airlines were expected to buy more than 170 Boeing jets over the next three years in deals worth billions of dollars.

What's next?

An international aviation consultant says it may be "a good thing" for the rest of the aviation world amid high demand for aircraft.

The three main Chinese airlines were expected to take delivery of 179 Boeing planes between now and 2027 — more planes than the entire Qantas main fleet — in deals worth billions of dollars.

Now the mail is disrupted...

Hong Kong Post said on Wednesday it had suspended goods mail services by sea to the US and will suspend its air mail postal service for items containing goods from 27 April due to “bullying” US tariffs.

When sending items to the US, people in Hong Kong “should be prepared to pay exorbitant and unreasonable fees due to the US’s unreasonable and bullying acts”, Hong Kong Post said in a statement.

“The US is unreasonable, bullying and imposing tariffs abusively,” it said. “Hong Kong post will definitely not collect any so-called tariffs on behalf of the US.”

Other postal items containing documents only, without goods, would not be affected.

It is up to the International Olympic Committee, and their next President, Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe to determine what happens with the next Olympics, scheduled for Los Angeles in 2026.

If the IOC diminishes the LA effort, you can be sure that Trump and his billionaire pals with rush in to fill the void with ceaseless MAGA and Trump pandering.

Best to let the IOC do it's think and keep Trump out of it.

Look who's asking for a TAXPAYER FUNDED bailout. The same farmers who voted for the piece of shih screwing them over right now with his tariffs.

"Farmers across the United States say they could face financial ruin – unless there is a huge taxpayer-funded bailout to compensate for losses generated by Donald Trump’s sweeping cuts and chaotic tariffs.

Rural counties rallied behind Trump in 2024, giving him a majority in all but 11 of the 444 farming-dependent counties last year, averaging 78% support, according to analysis by Investigate Midwest.

Trump’s vote share rose among farming communities, despite his last trade war which required a $23bn taxpayer bailout for farmers in 2018-19.

Yet anxiety is mounting among the agricultural base."

‘Shock to the system’: farmers hit by Trump’s tariffs and cuts say they need another bailout

Infuriating, but completely predictable.*

"MOMMMMM! I burned myself touching the hot stove again! I didn't think it would be so hot THIS TIME I touched it!"

*I realize not all farmers voted for DJT, just as not all people in red states voted for DJT.

I wouldn’t be surprised if many nations boycott the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, much as the U.S. boycotted the Moscow Olympics in 1980 over the invasion of Afghanistan. I can’t imagine that countries would want their athletes treated like illegal immigrants.

Respectfully, Rudolph was a lone wolf with his own agenda against the US government. He did not target the Olympics out of hate for the people of other countries.

I disagree that the scenarios you outlined are comparable to Rudolph. IMO

Except now , there are 77 million American voters who take on board Trumps description of all those countries he tells them , erroneously , that they have been 'ripping them off' for years and by the time 2028 rolls round, none of these poor 77 million are going to see any return on their investment in Trump paying off, on the contrary , they will be poorer.. and angrier..

77 million angry folks are not a pleasant expectation, and they will be looking for a scapegoat and what could be handier than some foreigner 'ripping off' one of their coddled athletes.... Rudolph x 77 million..

Imagine if a Canadian wins something that Americans think they ought to!! It only takes one demented MAGA, high on rage and unearned pride to 'stand his ground' over some sporting decision.

And there are a lot more than just one.

"Respectfully, Rudolph was a lone wolf with his own agenda against the US government. He did not target the Olympics out of hate for the people of other countries'

I take on board your point of view here , but for whatever reason Rudolph admitted to, the fact is, he chose the Olympics to 'stand his ground'.. he didn't choose Mardi Gras, or the Kentucky Derby, or the Baltimore Orioles against the ( I forget who!! ) .. he chose the Olympics , because, he knew the world would be watching, not just down town Detroit.

Right! They'll be too poor to afford tickets to the Olympics!

*only half-joking*

Seriously, while I have a very dim view of my fellow Americans, I still can't envision this being apt to happen.

I've tried to explain my reasoning but I don't think I've done a very good job, and perhaps I need to ponder it a bit more for the words to come.

Anyway, thanks for disagreeing pleasantly!

Edited: I think part of my thinking is Americans usually don't take out their frustrations and hatred in the form of murder at sports events.

Will ponder more.

I understand what both you and @Trooper are saying. While I don’t think there would be individuals murdering athletes, I do think that there could be a planned attack on whatever country is “the enemy” at the time. Take your pick! Most of us who were alive in 1972 have not forgotten the attack at the Munich Olympics. So I envision something like that if anything happens, which I hope it won’t.
