EXACTLY

And Jerome Powell was smart enough to get out in front of his bellows and threats by openly addressing the issue yesterday. He did a very good job addressing any personnel changes at the Fed level.

The stupidest thing DJT could do ( well, probably one of 10 million stupid things) would be to fire Jerome Powell.

The market reaction would be awful and really hit personal savings, 401Ks and IRAs very heavily.

I read an article recently listing some of the things to stock up on (not hoard):

TP
Over the counter meds—for pain and colds
Laundry detergent
Soap
Toothpaste

There was more but that’s what I wrote down. We’ll buy a little extra of one thing each week. Did TP (of course!) last week. :)
If you haven't tried it, the Italian-made Nesti Dante soap is fantastic. It's triple-milled so a bar lasts absolutely months. You can get it from Amazon, but presumably prices will go up when they next have to import stock.

And this right here is why we can't have nice things. Republicans are too afraid of DJT's wrath to support their constituents.

From article:

After a pause, she continued: "It's quite a statement. But we are in a time and a place where I don't know, I certainly have not been here before. And I'll tell you, I'm oftentimes very anxious myself about using my voice, because retaliation is real, and that's not right. But that's what you've asked me to do, and so I'm going to use my voice to the best of my ability."

This is a significant reveal from Senator Lisa Murkowski.

She has been a consistent and strong leader for Alaska and the moderate GOP.

The Bald Eagle Golf Course, now renamed the Point Roberts Golf and Country Club, will need the support of Canadians if it hopes to stay in business.
Article content
But will they come?
Why risk it if you’re Canadian? There are golf courses in BC. I wonder how many of those golfers are dual citizens.

Also, the comment about no tariffs on golf completely misses the point. Boycotting American goods and services isn’t about tariffs, it’s about our country being under attack.

Trump has backed himself into a corner. He boasts that the USA has what everyone wants. Trump demands that China approach the USA to request a deal (grovel), mistakenly believing that he holds the cards.

Trump might convince people in the USA that everyone in the world wants what the USA has, but I think most countries will disagree. I certainly disagree.

China has leverage! The country has diversified trade over the past 13 years, purchased USA debt, banned export of rare earth elements, and added law to ban some businesses from operating in China. Trump is raging about tariff increases that no longer make a difference. He can't get out of this conflict without asking China to make a deal - and he is too stubborn to do that at this time.
  • "China exported more than $400 billion US to the United States last year, much more than American companies sold to China. That's why the Trump administration claims it has all the leverage.
  • The ball is in China's court. China needs to make a deal with us. We don't have to make a deal with them," said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday.
  • "China wants what we have; every country wants what we have: the American consumer. Or to put it another way, they need our money," she told reporters in Washington.
  • In a retaliatory measure, China banned exports of seven rare earth elements and magnets used in defence, energy and automotive technologies.
  • China is America's second-largest foreign creditor, holding about $760 billion US in Treasury securities as of January.
  • China's exports to the U.S. are flat over the past 13 years," he says. But over that same period, he says, its exports to the rest of the world went up more than 80 per cent.
  • In the wake of the last U.S. trade war, China introduced a provision called the Unreliable Entity List, which could make it more difficult for targeted firms to do business in the country.
  • The hard part about any conflict is finding a way out. The U.S. seems to have thought it could force China to the table and exact concessions on its terms. Just weeks into this trade war, that is proving more complicated than many thought."

For Salem Took, who lives in Maine, Trump’s re-election restarted conversations about moving to Canada — for various important reasons.

“I’m trans. That’s probably the biggest one. And I’m pretty well-documented,” said Took.

Took says the rising cost of living and federal program cuts are also concerns.

But the conversation comes with mixed feelings. Took owns a home with their partner, and their children are in school.

Canada is accepting well-educated, professional immigrants who come with money. I don't think Canada is at the point of accepting refugee claimants from the US, but that might change.

Not entirely sure what the purpose of this is as I switched off after I read the government no longer plan on buying "useless paper straws" but intend to buy "the best" of stuff.
Bizarre government this one

Well, it says they plan to remove wokeness, whatever that is. I always thought that being awake to what is going on around you, and in the world, is a good thing.

The govt language has retreated to kindergarten level.

Oh no! Leave the Pacific Ocean alone. He has made an "America First Fishing Policy". Why does America have to be "First" with everything?

Now he will probably allow decimation of the fish population in the Pacific. It is so hard to keep our ocean populations stable as it is.

Maybe Sea Shepherd Global will step in on this. I hope.

Been reading a little about this, the impact this could have on the islands/territories etc, again there's China who fish there - seems to be a theme going on!
Donald has a very big issue with China

He’s nuts. Completely unaware that pissing of China isn’t going to help his country. The US has no friends except Russia now, it seems, and I don’t think Russia is interested.

Lets keep in mind that PRC's abuse of ocean fishing is catastrophic. That might be a better target for Sea Shepherd.

Bloomberg have a piece about Trump's new fishing exec order too but it won't let me read past first paragraph

Moo
Lol ebm spell check bloomberg from bloomers!

For some reason, the article opens up for me. Maybe it is geo-blocked in certain places.

It says that Trump's proclamation would allow US vessels to commercially fish within 50 to 200 nautical miles of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument.

Note from me: I want to point out that these "monuments" are pristine coral reefs and thriving fish and bird populations that are preserved.

He is trying to sell the idea that this would boost the economies of American Samoa and "other" Pacific Islands.
He also wants to revise and rescind current regulations. I imagine that will include allowing lots of drag-netting of millions of fish.

He is also reviewing other existing marine monuments, looking to open them up to US commercial fishing.

This makes me so darn SAD for our oceans. :( :( :(
He just cannot be allowed to do this!
