Lets keep in mind that PRC's abuse of ocean fishing is catastrophic. That might be a better target for Sea Shepherd.

Sea Shepherd already goes after them. I know that Sea Shepherd actively disrupts Chinese whaling efforts in our southern oceans.

I don't think they are a "better" target. But an equally-as-bad target.

imo

For some reason, the article opens up for me. Maybe it is geo-blocked in certain places.

Trump's proclamation would allow US vessels to commercially fish within 50 to 200 nautical miles of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument.

Note from me: I want to point out that these "monuments" are pristine coral reefs and thriving fish and bird populations that are preserved.

He is trying to sell the idea that this would boost the economies of American Samoa and "other" Pacific Islands.
While simultaneously saying it will help America's export fish industry.
He also wants to revise and rescind current regulations. I imagine that will include allowing lots of drag-netting of millions of fish.

He is also reviewing other existing marine monuments, looking to open them up to US commercial fishing.

imo

Thank you.
Great, so he intends on destroying preserved habitats and wildlife? Surprised that I'm not surprised, he shows such disregard for everything else why is this any different.

"Trump said in a Truth Social post that China wants to meet with his administration, but the president mentioned it as a brief aside and did not go into details.

"Had a very productive call with the President of Mexico yesterday. Likewise, I met with the highest level Japanese Trade Representatives. It was a very productive meeting. Every Nation, including China, wants to meet!" Trump said in the post. "Today, Italy!" "

Face the facts, Trump is destroying our country as we know it: he is destroying the government, our health is at risk, our safety is at risk because he fired the #1 guy in intelligence who is brilliant with cyber security- no doubt he is putting another moron in that position. He is toying with social security, cutting a huge amount of medicaid- he is thumbing his nose at the courts- in other words, he is acting as a ruler, a king and getting away with it, as the Republican party sits around picking their noses as America is being destroyed. Now I see he is also destroying wild life- no surprise: he has no respect for animals since he has no respect for humans.

And this wildlife is not "his" or America First's to destroy. It is in international waters.

Trump doesn't care where it is- he will destroy whatever he wants.

It's his only goal each time he 'ran' for his idea of president. Power over all things. Period.

Let’s add possible surveillance to the list.

And what appears to be taking shape is far more dangerous as I see strong indications that Trump may be laying the groundwork for a centralized surveillance state. I can’t say that definitively but we do need to pay close attention.
<snip>
What I believe Musk is doing is using DOGE as cover to build a massive data collection and profiling infrastructure—one that will have chilling consequences for dissent, journalism, and democracy itself.
<snip>
What Trump and Musk appear to be building looks eerily familiar. In fact, it mirrors something in authoritarian regimes— like Russia and China.

What you describe is chilling. I know I feel personally threatened as an American citizen.

"CEOs are posting daily on LinkedIn, making the rounds on Bloomberg and CNBC, or writing letters to their representatives in the hopes that President Donald Trump’s administration will reverse course before it’s too late.

The message many of them are trying to get out is that this new system of tariffs isn’t just inconvenient, it’s catastrophic. And, that it will hurt consumers.

Small businesses in particular don’t necessarily have the money or experience to engage in traditional lobbying. So one of the few things they can do right now is talk to the press or tell their stories and organize through non-traditional media channels.

"The uncertainty is just damaging to small businesses, and it just feels like it’s been completely ignored by our government,”

There are just so many things that are gonna fall down as a result of this tariff decision,” he said."

"Rising trade tensions and sweeping shifts in the global trading system will trigger downward revisions of the International Monetary Fund’s economic forecasts but no global recession is expected, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said on Thursday.

“Disruptions entail costs … our new growth projections will include notable markdowns but not recession,”

Georgieva said the world’s real economy is functioning well, with a strong labor market and a solid financial system ... "

All caused by one man who possesses millions of enablers, the most influential ones being Republican members of the US Congress.

They watch as he tanks not only the US economy, but the entire planet's economy, and as I said before, they cower in fear of his retribution should they actually obey the oaths they took to uphold and protect the Constition.

Despicable and disloyal. Traitorous even.

All IMO.

Well, Rubio doesn't seem to want normal people to be tourists in the US. Glad we are all boycotting it and its crazy "search your social media" and "you better not be derogatory about Trump" laws and values.

A welcome mat it was not.

"Visiting America is not an entitlement. It is a privilege extended to those who respect our laws and values. And, as secretary of state, I will never forget that. U.S. law lays out clear rules about who can and cannot come to the United States.
The State Department’s consular officers are required to apply these rules to each of the millions of visa applicants around the world each year. ... We expect — and the law requires — all visa holders to demonstrate their eligibility every day their visa is valid.
This includes respecting our laws, behaving appropriately according to their visa type, and continuing to meet these standards throughout their stay in our country."

Unbelievable! Such a double standard. Many “ugly Americans” do not show respect and obey the laws of countries they visit, but you foreign visitors had better toe the line when you visit us because you are privileged to be here. I’m embarrassed by Rubio’s statement.

Trump has what he wants most: ATTENTION!!! think about it: the attention of the world is focused on him, now CEOs and other important and wealthy people are begging HIM TO CHANGE COURSE!!! what he doing with tariffs is catastrophic for our country and the world ---- he doesn't care about any of that- he is getting the attention he craves - in addition to that, he actually believes the United States is getting taken advantage of -- his ideas are archaic and so wrong -sadly he is surrounded by sycophants who refuse to tell him he has no clothes! It gets even worse because the Republican party could stop this madness and will not do so.

Yes it is unbelievable--- we are living through a nightmare----Trump has brought out the absolute worst in those politicians who have yearned all these years for the power he has now given them-- do you think Rubio ever imagined he would be Secretary of State? of course not--- but Trump made that happen- there is probably nothing Rubio would not do to please Trump even though we know what Rubio really thinks of him because in 2016 he said it out loud!!!

In my experience, we don't visit another country to purposely disobey their laws. We visit to have a holiday, enjoy ourselves, see beautiful sights, maybe visit friends/family. And we spend a fair bit of money doing so.

No-one wants to get thrown in jail in another country (or even in their own country). Even before this administration was formed.

No need for embarrassment. We all know it is this particular administration.
And Rubio made that statement on Fox. Obviously appealing to an audience who they want to keep telling that they are all about law and order, while they are busy skirting laws and ignoring judges' rulings. imo

Do they expect that when a Democrat is elected again, only foreigners whose views allign with them will be welcome? A policy like that only makes sense to totalitarian regimes.

Yes, I was just thinking that Bessent wants to portray that tourist numbers are dropping so drastically because of their "tough stance on law" ..... rather than the tariffs, verbal attacks on other countries, untruths, what they are doing to immigrants and students, breaches of our personal privacy - and all the rest of the horrible stuff.

Does anyone else remember that great song "They're coming to take me away, ha ha!" What a beautiful song!
