To me, in the Jade City footage, they look like they are looking for something specific in the store. Can anyone read lips? Is there any indication that they are saying anything to each other?

I do not think there is camera footage from Jade Lake....the footage that has been circulating in the media is from the stop in Meadow Lake Saskatchewan

But I will try to find it

Which route did Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese take out of Hudson's Hope?

Did they travel north along Highway 29 to Charlie Lake to join up with Highway 97, which is the Alaska Highway? Or did they take Highway 97 east to Dawson Creek, stop for a photo at the Mile Zero sign and head north on Highway 97, also passing Charlie Lake? Most travellers taking the Alaska Highway for the first time want that souvenir signpost photo.

I find the attempted abduction of a highway flagger on Highway 29 by two men in an older blue van very curious. RCMP have asked for dashcam footage from travellers who were near Charlie Lake (on the Alaska Highway) on Sunday, August 4, 2019. The blue van was seen headed towards Hudson's Hope after the attempted abduction.

The longer we go without charges against Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky in the shooting deaths of Lucas and Chynna, the more I am inclined to think that they might not be responsible. Two possibilities come to mind: that someone mistook one blue van for another and attacked LF and CD in a case of mistaken identity; or that blue van from Sunday has been cruising the highway for victims more than once.

Back in the late 1990s, a man viciously attacked and sexually assaulted a flagger in the Pine Pass. He was later declared a dangerous offender. He was from Chetwynd, IIRC.

I think this attempted abduction could be related to the murders of LF and CD, given the short time period since the murders. There could also be a copycat or two. It is possible.

The Rav4 would definitely have a radio and news update are every 30 minutes on radio stations. There are some areas, more so thru the Rockies, where radio frequencies would be intermittent.

They were seen in the truck at that point.

Does anyone have a sense from other sources or their own experience about whether this renewed ground search near the Sundance work camp is because of something solid stemming from the boat discovery, or is it an example of LE going back to square one because there hasn't been anything new in nearly two weeks?

Thats a good question. I have been confused why LE stayed so long in the Gillam area to begin with. And then after the alleged sighting at the dump they even went back to Gillam to regroup. Then the next biggest thing was finding the boat.

It all points to something that must make LE feel they really could have been in that area all this time. Otherwise I am not sure they would focus so much there.

The only other thought is maybe once they organized near Gillam that that place was as good as any to use as a "station" of sorts until something definite can point them elsewhere.

The suspects are gone and every trail that police pursued was unsuccessful. They are going back to the last known fact and looking for new ideas.

I think the search of the Nelson River was in part looking for body parts or clothing, and in part looking for any evidence that they were along the shore.

We know that food was left behind with the burned Rav4, so they didn't need food. That suggests that they anticipated having another source of food within 24 hours of burning the vehicle. What does that tell police about their next move?

Did anyone see a grappling hook on the boat that took the RCMP out on the Nelson River?

Strange, these boys have no change of clothes ( maybe one suit) and no food that we know of was mentioned when the officer stopped them (not knowing who they were at the time) . These boys are either dead or there is someone else helping them. There is no way they are doing this on their own if they are alive without being seen going for food or a place to shower etc.

For those of us that are following this case and checking every day for updates, it's easy to forget that there a lot of people that still do not even know about these 2. I was just at work this morning for a few hours, and talking to others that didn't even know about it, or they know a little bit but thought they were already found or were found dead. So if people don't know or think they are dead, are they still watching for them? I don't do a lot of travelling, but have done enough to know that there are lots of truck stops that have bathrooms/showers and I'm not sure anyone would see them unless they went through the store or gas station part.

I had not seen that but could it have been a river anchor for the boat like in this picture in link?

When boating in a current there are special anchors that sometimes look like a grappling hook. The current is strong and they use them sometimes to keep the boat from getting pulled downstream from the current.

To unhook them off the bottom you power the boat upstream enough and then just pull and they usually come loose. I have had to cut off at least 2 anchors (regular ones) when I got the anchor hung on bottom. Only way out in that situation is to cut the anchor rope. LOL My fishing was over after that happened. I learned to bring 2 anchors when in places that have lots of debris on bottom.

I've been trying in vain to find the source photo and I just finally noticed the words "graduation supplement." So perhaps it was a physical supplement to the newpaper, I guess.
Am hoping someone here with all the awesome timeline knowledge and whatnot can answer a couple of questions for me:

1) Did the highway worker who found LF and CD mention in his interview that he suspected they were shot and if so, was this before or after the RCMP released that info publicly? (maybe it was never their intention to say how any of the victims died and had their hand forced in terms of releasing that info because of that interview?) - would explain why we know the cause of death in one case and not the other.

2) [...]

Thanks!

The fact that they were shot was first published in the Australian media. So that may be what forced their hand.

I tried to find the source of his grad photo too. The National Post was the one to publish it and said the source was a supplement from Alberni Valley News. The grad supplement can be seen online however I don't see any picture of KM there.

At 7:45PM on July 13 they bought gas at Fort Nelson. At 3:30PM on July 14 they were stranded on the side of the highway 20km South of Liard Hot Springs. They were heading North. They were last seen alive stranded on the side of the highway at 11:30PM on July 14.

Thinking back to the unsolved murders of two German tourists in Chetwynd in 1983, it is possible that the person(s) responsible is/are still alive. If an 80s vintage van can still be on the road, a killer in his 20s in 1983 could still be alive.

Double murder of Andrea Scherpf and Bernd Göricke - Wikipedia

Thinking also of one version of Trevor Pierre's TV interview in which he said LF and CD both had one hand tucked under their bodies.

Andrea Scherpf had DNA under her fingernails.

I checked this year's grad supplement and no sign of BS. He's not even listed as unphotographed.

RCMP must have told the parents of Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese how they were killed. Lucas' father was visibly distraught at the news conference, and it's very likely that it slipped his mind that the cause of death was meant to be withheld. He released that information, and RCMP later confirmed that they died of gun violence - meaning they were shot.

One thing I meant to note is BS buying a suit with his 2nd WM paycheck for his June 28th graduation doesn't make sense if he didn't start work until after he graduated. The school calendar lists June 27th as the last day of classes. If these 2 left on July 12th after 5 weeks of work, that places them starting work the week of June 10th-14th, a good 2 weeks before classes wrapped up. Also, in my experience, people take pics of the graduate in graduation regalia-like KM's pic--rather than in the suit you bought. The fact there is no pic of BS in a cap and gown, coupled with when he must have started work, indicates to me he attended graduation but didn't actually graduate. MOO

Link to calendar:
Calendar - Calendar - School District 70 (Alberni)

This might be another lie he told family. His dad didn't live in town and if he was visiting every other week (presumably on weekends), he would not have been in a position to know if BS was attending school.

1. Mr. Pierre gave multiple interviews, and almost certainly mentioned that they were shot to some journalists. His CBC interview was edited, probably at the request of RCMP.

Nine News Melbourne on Sunday, July 21, first line states “...Lucas Fowler, who was shot dead alongside his girlfriend...”. Halfway down: “The RCMP have released few details...”
