It sounds like this boat had an engine, and that the engine was removed whenever the boat was wrecked. I doubt that there are a whole lot of people rowing boats on the Nelson :)

There was a report over the weekend iirc the boat owner hadn’t been identified as of Saturday afternoon. But several days have now passed so I’m hopeful the RCMP will have obtained more information about the boat, if not from the owner, at least it’s location, condition etc observed by others.

The locations the items associated with the pair were found would also be significant....found only on the same side of the river as the RAV4 might suggest disposal. Evidence of possible drowning of the suspects would be much stronger if items were found on both sides of the river or all on the opposite side from the RAV4.

Regarding the "removed" middle seat. It would look very much like the object in that picture just behind the boat. I'm wondering if that is it, sprung mostly free during the damage, and simply placed there by the RCMP for the photos.

Edit to add; the object leaning up where the wall joins the garage door, adjacent to the front right corner of the boat

This might be the middle seat, so also found among debris on the shore of the Nelson River?

I don’t see how it’d be possible to boat from Gillam to York Factory given the hydro dams along the way.

Good question! I think I found the answer though; It isn't, and he doesn't. The FAQ on his website says "The boat launch is located at MB Hydro’s Limestone Hydro Dam."

It's going to be on the downstream side of that, for going down river.

The locals don’t exactly have a great relationship with the RCMP. If you think about the history of treatment for some of these communities (stolen land, forced in to communities as opposed to their once nomadic lifestyle, lack of investigation in to the countless missing/murdered indigenous women, historical traumas, and probably more I haven’t listed) it makes sense that they don’t feel the need to go above and beyond to cooperate with the police.

From my understanding talking to people who had their doors knocked by the police it sounds like they didn’t come back if there was no answer and didn’t dive too deep in to what may be missing, it’s not hard to imagine someone not thinking about a boat that went missing long before this manhunt began. It’s also not hard to imagine some people just not really answering any of the police questioning. We all care but not everyone does.

During the search for the suspects, did the residents of Gillam and York Landing have their doors kicked in?
... or is this a grievance from another time?

Apparently RCMP have a means to determine when the boat arrived at that point on the shoreline:

"Lewis said he expects police to back through aerial and satellite images of the area to determine when the boat actually arrived there to get a better timeline of the events."

Police find items 'directly linked' to B.C. murder suspects near damaged boat

That certainly suggests that the boat was not on the shore when they first searched for the suspects on the Nelson River shore, and it was there later, perhaps on August 2.

Because it's in the middle of nowhere and it was more trouble than it was worth to retrieve it?

I'm assuming that's not where the owner left it.

This is only my opinion, but yes, part of it anyway. It might well have been still attached, barely, and separated while the police were moving the boat.

BTW, thank you very much for the maps and other info you have been providing!

Good eye!

At first glance it sort of looks like a chair but its much too small to be that, in relation to the size of the garage door hinges. Yes, it sure appears to be a long piece of bent but smooth aluminum sitting atop a black metal support for the benefit of the photograph, which could be that missing middle seat.

No doors were kicked in but there is deep current and historical grievances between some of the First Nations residents and the RCMP. I don’t want to speak for everyone here as it’s obviously not the case for all but not everyone there loves the cops.

Below, from your link as well. This makes sense, in rivers much smaller than the Nelson bodies are swept far downstream, sometimes never recovered. I’ve never heard of bodies being found in a fast moving river in a stationary location.

“Now, former Ontario Provincial Police commissioner and CTV News’ safety and security analyst Chris Lewis thinks officers were hoping to find additional items connected to the men.

“I don’t think they were looking for bodies, I think they were looking for evidence, but we really don’t know,” he told CTV News. “They’re not obligated to tell us, but that would be my guess.”..”

The RCMP post, that they made hours earlier, directly contradicts what you posted. I see no correction.

RCMP Manitoba on Twitter

Update from RCMP. Rowboat was found on Friday, Aug. 2, not Saturday. https://www.facebook.com/485338141556769/posts/2340852522671979/?sfnsn=mo …
12:35 PM - 6 Aug 2019

RCMP previously reported the boat located on Saturday which was incorrect.

RCMP updated that boat was located on Friday, August 2 and that items were found related to KM/BS.

Reporter tweeted both incorrect info by RCMP, update by RCMP, and also retweeted RCMP's tweet prefacing that it was a correction.

If you want to challenge the reporters tweets, so be it.

It certainly looks like it fits as the middle seat. Maybe it was found on the shore near the red and white water jug. Just a guess, but I would expect aluminium to sink to the bottom of the river if the seat was torn off passing through the Lower Limestone Rapids.

Just a heads up, as I know you are new and probably have not been able to read every post. On page 1 of each thread, there are several posts, including this one from an admin stating what can and cannot be discussed.

Also off topic subjects include:

Rumors, social media comments, antifa, incels, extensive discussion/philosophizing about Communism/Hitlerism/Nazism, sexual orientation or gender identity, politicizing (i.e. RCMP vs Indigenous Peoples of Canada) ... right on down to police attire and comments on a grandmother’s television.

There is 200 year history between indigenous people and colonialists. This relationship has improved significantly under the current and last prime ministers.

This situation has to supersede all other experience, as it is important to everyone to locate the suspects.

A tent would be far more noticeable that a discarded boat
I recall that one of the military planes assisting with the search, the Aurora, was equipped with infrared technology and was adept at locating targets at night. I'm unfamiliar with how it works, but would hiding underneath an aluminum boat such as this one, help mask some of the body heat that would normally be detected by infrared? (military grade infrared is pretty advanced, though, so I'm assuming not)

Edit: because I type too fast
