Has it been confirmed that LD was on the trip up north by himself or is it possible his family was camping up there too?
I would assume that if family was with him, he would have been immediately identified...and they perhaps would have died as well. JMO

Can anyone find the interview where Bryer's dad talks about Bryer going to Kam's house and not the other way around? This is driving me crazy because I know it is out there, and I cannot find it. :(

ADMIN NOTE:

Move on from the entire discussion of whether or not LD was Mennonite or whether any of the victims had guns. There is nothing to support the arguments either way and it has resulted in nothing but bickering with everyone trying to be right.

If it continues, thread reply bans will be issued and thread will be closed for the night.

It appears he was travelling alone.

“The trip to the Dease Lake area wasn’t part of original Dyck’s plans, Friesen said, adding he was only supposed to travel between Terrace and Stewart.

“[It was] kind of random in nature. He decided, ‘I’m going to go further up north. I got the time,’” he said...”

I can't link it or I would, but it's in a recorded video interview with AS, I'm sure it's the second interview with him. Search it on youtube, it's there! Or maybe someone can produce a link for you

You are awesome--thank you! I found it! I kept thinking he was wearing a different color shirt and never even clicked on this one in my mad dash to find the video.

@LadyL, here is the video of Bryer's dad talking about Bryer always being at Kam's place and not the other way around. Between this and the video interview I already posted with the uncle (who confirms he never met Kam despite him being a good friend of Bryer's) and the article I previously posted with Bryer's grandma's neighbor saying she never met Kam except through his work at Wal-Mart, despite Bryer being a really close friend of her son's, I think it's pretty clear that Bryer didn't want Kam around his family.

I read this article a few days ago. Looking at the pic of younger Leonard with the backpack, he reminded me of Lucas - complete with the long hair!

Two men with such a similar love for the outdoors. So sad.

As it’s widely reported the two were heavily involved in playing video games, did the grandmother set boundaries and that’s why B was always at Ks place? Otherwise I don’t get it as most gamers play from their own homes.

As a sessional, he would be paid more by the hour, but he would not have benefits and UBC pension - unless it's been unionized. Does anyone know? I'm just wondering about his family.

Exactly, LDs early photos are so very similar.

Could be part of it. In the above interview, Bryer's dad says Kam wasn't over at the mom's house either when Bryer lived there, so I think it goes beyond rules. I do think the people who have speculated about Bryer being nervous about company because of his family dynamics are probably right on.

Granted, Bryer's dad wouldn't have been there to see that with Bryer's mom's house, but I don't see any reason to doubt that tidbit.

My guess is Bryer likely still played video games at his grandma's house but maybe didn't play certain ones around her. But that's just a guess! MOO

Yes, and he also seemed like such a free spirit. A very intelligent man and also a gifted artist as well. So terribly sad.

I appreciated this memorandum page at the UBC site and, in particular, the photo of him from a biology field trip. I find it refreshing, amid all the speculation regarding the suspects, to remember the life passions, interests, and contributions of the victims.

How would Bryer's father know what goes on at his ex-wife's house if there was no contact for the last 10 years? Did Bryer tell him that his friend Kam has never been to his house? We know that Bryer told his father he was going to Alberta, and he told his grandmother that he was going to Whitehorse.

Kam and Bryer were friends from early childhood. They must have spent time at each other's houses when they met and apparently ever since, although maybe more at Kam's in the last couple of years - hard to say.

I love that! You could tell how enthusiastic he was about his work from the picture. It reminds me of a lot of the scientists I knew from college/work. That type of appreciation for the natural world is really infectious.

It's secondhand, but I can see Bryer telling his dad that, and it also being true. Kam might even have been the one who told Bryer's dad that. It certainly fits the accounts of other people that they didn't see Kam around Bryer's place.

Even if Kam was over there some, I'd venture to say the amount of time spent at Kam's place was way more.

Yes but they could have split up for a day or two (while he worked or explored). Possibly they had no contact or knowledge of what was happening up there (if they were camping or disconnected from media).

Also, it is possible the family knew sooner of his death but the sketch and appeal to the public was part of LE’s way of bringing in information.

This is just speculation on my part, but I imagine his family was used to him being out-of-contact on his trips since he was in such remote places. They may not have realized anything was wrong until sketches started circulating of the man who was found dead. :(

Just MOO

B’s dad claimed he had no contact with his son between the ages of 8 and 16. B reportedly has lived with his grandmother after the short stint with his father at age 16. AS apparently stayed in a hotel or with friends when visiting his son once a month in Port Alberni. Given AS’s animosity towards his ex resulting in the Criminal Harassment charges against him, I think his portrayal of Bs home life in general might be somewhere between a tiny bit to totally biased. Perhaps we’ll learn more when the police report is finalized as I’m certain the RCMP will have reason to investigate it thoroughly.
