Maybe they thought they'd swim to Russia? ;)

On a more serious note, I was also surprised they got that far but still doubled back.

Honestly, I never thought these guys were geniuses, but the stuff that was revealed today about their efforts to disguise the vehicle and flee by boat is literally some of the dumbest reasoning I've ever seen from suspects in 20 years of following true crime. I think I put more thought in the past two months into trying to figure out what they were thinking than they ever did at any point.
I'm thinking once they had that failed encounter with the guy taking a nap outside of Haines Junction, they weren't sure if the man would report the incident to police,,,,,so they headed back and on to Dease Lake. Its unfortunate the witness took 3 or 4 days to report it to the RCMP.

Good point--that probably occurred to them more so than issues with customs.

No kidding, that’s something you call 911 for.

I mean along the whole route, not just at the end. They had many days where they could have easily picked off people but for some reason, chose not to.
Again, I think they were scared of getting caught. They focussed on running as far away as they could from their 3 crimes, on the roadtrip they didn't want to take any more risks and attract attention.

Once they were trapped in the bush, I'm sure if they'd found a fisherman with a boat or something, they'd have killed again. But they didn't see anyone. Probably just planes overhead.

I don’t buy that or they would have stopped after the first murders.

Agreed. I would have been dialing 911 as I was speeding away. Find it really odd something like that took so long to be reported.

I do wonder why it took that witness so long to report it.... That is definitely something you IMMEDIATELY dial 911 for, not wait 3-4 days to report. The most reasonable explanation is that the victim was shook up after the incident but It is very odd it took THAT long to report.

I believe this more to be a family owned gun or one obtained from a friend. I personally do not believe they put it together, when they could go out to Cabella's and just buy one. MOO
I wasn't suggesting they put it together. I was explaining that somebody had built the gun out of parts from multiple guns.

I’m responding to the comment that they didn’t kill because they didn’t have the perfect victim after the murders. They could have easily killed more people in a similar fashion.

I just see a change in their behaviour after LD’s murder for no apparent reason. They had the means but maybe not the motive.

Who said the murders weren’t brutal and shocking??
Other members have already posted what KM & BS modus operandi was, it would've been hard to replicate those circumstances after it was public knowledge there were killers on the loose, no one was going to sleep in their vehicles on the side of the road.
I disagree with this -
All they needed to do was pull over, pop the hood and wave down a vehicle. Someone would stop fairly quickly. Voila, next victim.
they could have shot out of the vehicle window but they didn't, we could go on for pages with this. KM & BS had a method and no apparent motive.

Hey, I'm old! :)

I really do wonder why they went as far as (almost) Haines Junction. There's no reason for them to be there unless they're heading to Alaska. Any theories out there about that? (that don't involve cruise ships)

Would there have been cell phone reception in that area? That could explain not phoning it in right away... not sure why it took days to report but I’m sure that person was rattled. How terrifying to know now how close you came to death.

I can understand the witness being dazed and in shock and questioning his own understanding of what happened, then finally making a report. Often people don't think the police will believe them if they report weird experiences like this.

I reckon someone along the lines of that young woman whom Bryer gratuitously offered to decapitate.

Maybe even her, but certainly someone who's incident was compelling and solid. If he was casually threatening other teenage girls, out in the open, they were probably both doing a bit more than that as a team with other (most probably ) solo targets, who never forgot it.
No, she had not seen him for 7 years after that, plus she was in the media. The RCMP sticks to credible witnesses who don't run to media as well as protect that witness' identify for their safety.

RCMP in British Columbia - Overview of Fort Nelson and Dease Lake Homicide Investigation

'During the investigation a number of Partner Agencies were used to assist including but not limited to the United States of America and Australia Police Agencies, the BC Prosecution Service, the Canadian Border Services Agency, the Coroners Services in British Columbia and Manitoba, Conservation Officers, Search and Rescue and the Canadian Military.

The RCMP would like to thank all Canadians for their vigilance, partner agencies throughout Canada, the United States and Australia as well as the communities that were affected during the search.'

This Australian would like to thank the RCMP for it's diligence, and it's meticulous organization and discipline.

I know some folks were mighty displeased that Australian cops were assisting, but no one seems to object to the USA assisting, and that's nice that they did. I expected nothing less on behalf of Chynna Deese.

Maybe looking for more people in a position where they could kill without being caught?

No. After they were stopped by the big fast river, they recorded a video about going back to kill some people. Check the map, they actually turned back, but couldn't make it more than 100 yards.
I have a feeling at that point, they probably imagined a shoot out with the RCMP - which likely explains the hundreds of rounds of ammo they carried with themselves into the bush.

July 16 roadside stop, with hood up, was almost certainly a deception to switch vehicles. They didn't accept help from the traffic control officer, because his vehicle would be quite obvious, and they may have thought he had a handgun too.

They kept going, until next attempt to switch vehicles. That driver is lucky to have noticed the guy with gun, before closing his eyes.

They made up the story of truck trouble during the last call to grandma or whoever, that same night.

I think this is exactly what they were up to. Truck was burned to a crisp so verifying its mechanical issues as fact was not an option.

Also, it could have saved LD’s life.

IF, Bryer was wearing that idiotic cattle hat, that makes him look like a moving mushroom, it would take some time to work out if it was a skit or someone in real earnest. I would wrestle with it..

There is in HJ but not out that far. But the witness could have gone right to the RCMP station in HJ.
