Sounds like they do have “significant developments” just not willing to share at this time...IMO

They are visiting homes and searching the hydro facilities, according to latest news articles and tweets.

I do not think there have been any significant developments in the manhunt.

Was the Rav4 a diesel?

With regards to the Gillam search continuing, I think police have no choice but to keep searching there until they can prove they left. They just can't abandon the local people with the risk that the two are still around. Imagine if the search were called off, and at that point the suspects emerged from their hiding place and killed someone around Gillam. The recriminations and outrage against police would be epic.

[bbm]

well they can't stay there indefinitely, even if they aren't able to prove they left

Well, it does have to do with how long it took to identify them, which is a part of their story and a part of this crime story. The victims themselves are part of the story. Their families had to wait, as I understand it, for identification (accomplished eventually when Chynne's well hidden passport was unearthed in the van, despite the fire). The plates did not lead to their identification.

[bbm]

there was no fire in the van

Plus, burning the truck probably just delays figuring out who the owner is, not a solid plan for keeping undercover. Why not drive it deep into the bush and leave it? No fire, nothing brings attention, etc.

[bbm]

I think they're firebugs and maybe they want attention and are too stupid to realize that some kinds of attention get you caught (they want to be known as getting away with their crimes IMO)

I was just on twitter . There is picture with a man beside the dun newspsper that looks like kam. circulating

I've been playing video games my whole life and Yes, ALL kinds of games. I am fully aware of reality vs. a game....I am fully aware of right vs. wrong.....I function just fine in society. I can also say that if anyone I know through gaming were suspects of murder and a massive country wide manhunt was underway, the first I would be doing is calling the police if I had any information I thought they may need.

Please stop making this assumption simply because someone picks up a game controller.

Welcome to WS! Great first post BTW!

What you've described is entirely plausible; it could be exactly what transpired. Like you, I don't think we're dealign with evil geniuses or criminal masterminds. I think they've been fortunate that there's been latency between the times their crimes were committed and the points at which law enforcement discovered the crimes and figured out what happened. The vast distances and wilderness are significant factors.
Exactly!

That's true. They probably had a nice view, so stopping wasn't all so bad. Plus, maybe they were tired from driving and wanting a break anyway. MOO.

It became Sunday evening, and one female driver didn't stop after Chynna waived, so they decided to sleep until Monday morning.

Welcome to WS! Great first post BTW!

Thanks!! Nice to find others I can discuss this all with. I've always poked around here, but never bothered to sign up and discuss.

I just had a creepy thought. These two could be videoing everything they do and publishing on the dark web. For money? Maybe. For notoriety? Absolutely. I think if they didn't know they would get caught too early, they'd be livestreaming it.

Manitoba RCMP are putting out some Tweets right now.
Am I allowed to link their twitter??

Winnepeg.....that's what my gut's been thinking about. Would fit time wise.
Anyone see anything else?
where should we look to anything about this? can a link be made here or against tos?

I know some people here in the rural US who swear by old vans because full-size, old vans often are fairly cheap unlike trucks because vans aren’t that “cool”; while they can’t haul things like a truck, you can sleep in them and carry lots of things without them getting wet, and older vehicles are said by many to be easier to work on and cheaper to fix than newer vehicles are. I have no idea if that van actually had a carburetor but if it did, letting it sit and maybe putting a pencil in the float if need be could work. Also, while they’re usually not four-wheel-drive, old, full-size vans generally are heavy enough to deal with a little snow if need be. And one more thought is that the thing about an old vehicle is that if it does blow the motor or something, since you didn’t pay that much for it, you cut your losses and look for another cheap old van. You don’t have to get an expensive car towed or fixed in a place where it might be very expensive. That said, if I had the money, I’d rather be in a newer vehicle and I’d far rather my kids be in newer vehicles. Traveling around the country in an old van can be seen as kind of a romantic thing and when you’re young, well, like a cheap RV maybe? MOO.
good post.
And those questioning driving around the countryside in an old, old van probably weren't
around in the 'Woodstock' era when having an
old psychedelic painted van was a 'thing'.

And buy some polar bear spray once you cross the border because only with great difficulty can you bring a gun across the border or anything more than a small, folding, pocket knife.

I'm going shopping in Old Quebec in four weeks. I hope these young men and the polar bear don't head in that direction.

Yikes! Polar bear could be headed for the Ice Hotel. Be vigilant.

I don’t think the lack of identification is the major issue here, it’s that they didn’t release right away that two people had been shot to death.

I frequently defend law enforcement when they say “there is no danger to the public.”

That’s because most murders are personal.

The circumstances here didn’t lend themselves to a personal crime though.

I’m still not convinced it would have made any difference at all, but I do think it was an error.

We know that RCMP needed 3 days to identify the victims. That is a very long time in terms of solving a crime. I'm pretty sure that the coroner sorted out that they were shot as soon as he was with the bodies.

From my perspective, the delay in identification of the victims gave the teens an huge head start, and changed the nature and scope of the investigation.

That's my interest as well. This might have played out very differently if the victims had been identified on the morning of July 15. It would have been in the news on July 15, and the botanist might have made different choices on July 19.

There was a 3 day delay in identification of the suspects because ID was missing and vehicle did not track to Fowler's address. During those 3 days, the suspects were a danger to everyone. As soon as the double murder victims were identified the murders hit the news. Within 24 hours the suspects ditched their vehicle, murdered a botanist and stole his Rav4.
Yes!

well they can't stay there indefinitely, even if they aren't able to prove it
.

I think they will map and then search, and re-search, and search again, all buildings and anywhere they could be stealing supplies. But until the freezing weather comes, they could potentially be (barely) surviving out in the bush.

Copied and pasted the latest status updates from Manitoba RCMP Twitter(hope this is OKAY):

No new sightings of suspects. Officers are searching cottages, cabins, waterways, & along the rail line for any signs of the suspects. This search of remote areas is being conducted both on foot & in the air. The terrain is immense & varied w/lakes, ponds, muskeg etc. #rcmpmb

Investigators have now received over 200 tips in the last 5 days. None have established that the suspects are outside of the Gillam area. The RCMP continues to remind the public that it's possible the suspects inadvertently received assistance & no longer in the area. #rcmpmb

Canadians with tips about the suspects should immediately contact their local police. Multiple tips of sightings have been posted to social media & NOT directly reported to police. If the tips are valid, it could create a substantial delay in the response by police. #rcmpmb

So I am confused. Is the 2011 Toyota believed to be Mr. Dyck's?
