@otto, the last winter map listed (entire region) shows the RR lines including stops along with major non winter roads. Heading towards Thompson and points W/SW makes alot of sense as if you then are able to jack a car you could get to Winnipeg with no issues via hwy on a straight shot S or head W.

They burned the car next to the train tracks on July 22 around 7PM. July 23 it was confirmed to be the Rav4 that they were driving. Then police swarmed the area.

Given everything they did between July 14 and July 22, would they really be sitting around in Gillam on the morning of July 23 waiting for police to connect them to the burned car and murders?

I really wish they would be arrested - everyone who is road-tripping anywhere in Canada is at higher risk until they are arrested.

I fear we are potentially turning murder victims into suspects without a shred of evidence and therefore ignoring the possible signs of the actual suspect(s) IMO

Initially, it appears that RCMP believed these two to be victims.

There appears to be very strong evidence that not only are they not victims, but they are in fact cold blooded killers.

These guys weren’t charged with second degree murder without evidence.

Junk yard on York Landing, Manitoba... gives you an idea of the sort of terrain the teen fugitives may have fled into when they were disturbed by the search volunteers (if indeed it was them).@9NewsAUS @TheTodayShow

I thought "landfill" was mentioned. This is more a scrap yard. I still think the dump is fairly small and immediately opposite the ponds...

Having said that, this would indeed be a good place to scavenge for things that might help them evade capture and survive in the wilderness.

I'm actually getting nervous. I have to travel from Winnipeg to N. W. Ontario (Dryden area) overnight tonight for my work. I know the odds are slim, but it's in the back of my mind.

Having now watched the video in which Mr. Bighetty describes what he saw at the dump, I’m not surprised that the RCMP are moving on.

It isn’t even clear whether he and his partner were close enough to determine whether the people they saw were Caucasian, this being a community in which some residents, and some people working there, may well be Métis.

Based on his brief statement, and with not so much as a mobile phone photo, it’s really unclear what he saw. Too bad the person who did the interview didn’t ask for more detail.

I’d be very concerned about how much he actually remembers and how much is suggestion.

I think it was them too. I also can’t believe that after RCMP and Air forces along with drones were unable to find “two more” guys in a bush. Whether it be the suspects or another two teens.

Exactly!

This case is about to stall until they get another form of credible sighting. Otherwise where on earth do they contemplate searching next?

Potential lost opportunities with the dump sighting it seems. Huge blow yesterday.

All they can go of now is that the dump sighting was credible, which means they are still in close proximity to the region when taking terrain into account. If not credible well who knows where they are. You can’t really search anywhere now, road checkpoints is about it. Need to wait for them to re surface...

It's a pretty small community -- I believe they just call it the "dump."

The Bear Clan people, who are not local, may just be mistaken. The big problems with this sighting are the clothing, given the weather, and what would be involved in walking to York Landing. The scenario screams out hypothermia. For whatever reason, no doubt based on interviews with these witnesses, analysis and the results of the search overnight and today, the RCMP appear to have lost confidence in this sighting being correct.

I really don’t like being critical of the Bear Clan’s sighting and the gentleman might’ve been misquoted but when I read this account again with a little less optimism, a couple of thoughts pop into my mind as to how it occurred. As the Bear Clan members approached in their truck and were able to observe the clothing the pair wore, why wasn’t it also known which direction they fled? I suppose it’s possible trees blocked the view as they approached but we don’t know that. And another thing, yes I’m certain people avoid going to the dump on foot but what about local teens who didn’t recognize the Bear Clan truck? Could they resemble suntanned wanted teens from BC, both having brown hair?

“....Travis Bighetty, a coordinator of Bear Clan, said he was driving with fellow members Justin Coelho and Danielle McMaster just after 4 p.m. when they spotted two men matching the suspects’ descriptions about 40 yards from them at the dump. One wore a grey sweatshirt and the other wore a camouflage sweatshirt, he said.

Mr. Bighetty believed the two were looking for food.

“We’ve seen them in an area that is not frequented because there are bears in the territory or bears near the area, and so people avoid on foot, and it’s only accessible by vehicle.”

He said the pair ran away when they heard the sound of the patrol’s vehicle.

Mr. Bighetty’s team called police and surveyed the grounds for a few minutes to see if they could determine in which direction the two ran. “It’s dense bush and I didn’t want to put my members in danger,” he said.”...”

RCMP had no choice but to do what they did. Anything less and - just an opinion - but it could have turned into a political statement.

Yeah, I think there was deliberate preparation for this trip and these events, so we shouldn't be too surprised if they have specifically worked on ways to conceal themselves, camp without making a fire, eat the minimum or survive on 3600 calorie bars... and burning the RAV4 was deliberate and intended to make the game interesting by leaving a trail.

I tend to agree and I have been thinking about cooking meals without a fire and if they had brought MREs like was previously suggested they might have brought with them, then to prevent being spotted with a campfire, one thing I remembered about MREs is that some of them like these in the link below have their own "ready to heat" packet that generates heat by mixing a small amount of water. There is some sort of included heat pack or something that has a chemical reaction with a tablespoon of water and that is used to heat up the MRE meal.

So there would be a way to have warm meals without a fire.

It has been a long day -- between work and WS updates. Maybe when I wake up in the morning, there will be some "new" news.

Gnite, my WS friends.

Neither one alone would do what they both did together. Are they more than just friends? moo
Bonded at a young age as both discovered they harbour unusual thoughts and urges that others seemed not to have. They have an intimate relationship, but not the physical kind. One likes the kill, the other likes to direct the killing.

That is not even what Bighetty says in the brief video clip of him describing what happened. He says that they went to the dump in their truck, left, and while driving in their truck it “clicked” that it might be them.

At that point, it’s a bit unclear whether they actually drove back to the dump or remembered as best they could.

He doesn’t even say, anywhere, that the people that they saw were white.

I respectfully disagree. Except soldiers and hunters, few people wear full camo. It's not a thing. And that outfit he is wearing is not at all mall rat clothing.

And as much as I truly respect you and your posts, I feel it is slightly intellectually dishonest to equate this:

One is obviously a fashion choice. One appears to be full on military wear. Not a cute jacket with darling camo print. He appears to be wearing a full military uniform and I haven't seen anyone but tiny kids playing dress up, wearing something like, that unless they're actually in the military, hunting (and even then it looks different, IMO), or dressing up to do paint ball.

Oh and of course these guys:

She described the attacker as a tall, thin young man. She said he was wearing camouflage and had a big gun.

Neal — visible out the window, wearing green camouflage, Ferreira said — fired a volley of bullets at the classroom’s windows. When the shooter moved on to the next room, students who had remained under their desks were told to run back to the office with others, but one child wasn’t moving, Ferreira said. He had been shot in the chest and leg.

A man opened fire on police responding to a call about a domestic disturbance in an Alabama mobile home park, killing one officer and wounding two others, authorities said Monday. An intense manhunt led to his arrest hours later, not far from the Arrowhead trailer park, which is only a few miles from the campus of Auburn University, where students had been warned to be on alert.

Around 1:53 a.m., a gunman wearing camouflage clothing opened fire from a low rooftop, aiming at people gathered outside a restaurant. An 18-year-old woman died at the scene, while a 19-year-old man later died in a local hospital; both were students at the Hyria Vocational Institute.[3]

Medina never stopped Cruz or interrogated him, despite recognizing him as the “racist” kid who always wore black or camouflage and had swastikas on his backpack, according to a sworn statement obtained by the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
He was the same kid who had been sent to the office for wearing a camo mask, hiding behind poles and jumping out to scare students.
“That’s crazy boy.” School watchman recognized but didn’t stop shooter before Parkland massacre.

They learned about the ride she had taken to the gun shop and the shotgun she had purchased. She was last seen wearing a black shirt and camouflage pants. The FBI released Pais’s name and photo and began a massive manhunt.
‘Infatuated’ with the Columbine shooting, she flew to Colorado and bought a gun

None of this is coincidence. These murderers view themselves as delusionally fighting a cosmic war, or they're injustice collectors who think they're engaging in battle with those who have wronged them or they're wanna' be soldiers in a video game they've created.

Camoflauge and black "tactical" outfits/gear are routinely outfits of choice for spree and mass murderers. And that's for a reason. They see military outfits as "tough" and as denoting killing and war and they want to see themselves as tough killers engaged in war.

To equate this with a cute camo purse or gorgeous little jacket that looks zero like actual military wear, is not an apt comparison, IMO.
While all your links are credible. The fact remains it is not unusual for people on Vancouver Island to wear camo and military clothing. There are several surplus stores on the island with clothing and equipment/accessories at a very reasonable price. Seeing a young guy in full fatigues would not surprise me here one little bit and wouldn’t look twice or think it unusual.
