Super behind after work. Will diligently try to get caught up but might miss something speed-reading. So can anyone tell me if anything significant has happened or been discovered since this morning’s press conference?
@JaneEyre, Short summary to skim for an update including info about the video that circulated last night on social media showing someone saying, "they caught one of them" but then was pulled off the internet (its still there but you have to dig a bit):

‘Is that them?’ False alarm and fraying nerves in York Landing as manhunt drags on

Short summary is it looks like York Landing might have been a false sighting so the hunt is back on and RCMP is further behind the 2 suspects than they were 24 hrs ago in Gillam. No new sightings of the 2 suspects today. Press Briefing today was a nothing sandwich and spoke to the issue of RCMP not able to confirm that the 2 suspects had been seen in York Landing. So, looks like we are pushed back to the point of the burning RAV4 and Gillam with no fresh news. Which way did they go?

Even if they have a phone and a solar charger, who are they going to call?

Well, I think some people think they also have a data plan. So...phone, charger, data plan (and someone on the internet who is helping them? maps?)

To me, this is in the category of "making things up wholesale" and I'm not sure why. I have no idea who they would be calling or why people think they are calling/checking the internet. I guess maybe just using GPS? But what good is that without a map? Which takes data.

These guys are not said to be watermen, swimmers, boaters, etc. They liked to go into the woods and play a teen version of hide and seek, probably combined with a few survival skills. TBH, that's what we kids did when I was growing up, we just based it off of TV shows.

Manhunt for B.C. teen fugitives moves on as RCMP end search in Manitoba First Nation

WY6Q7WFQYFF3BIBNDNBAFOVACQ.JPG

Garbage dump

RCMP are withdrawing from York Landing in northern Manitoba after failing to locate two men wanted in a national manhunt for the killings of three people in British Columbia. One day after dozens of officers flooded into the remote community acting on a tip that the pair had been seen at the local dump, police concluded the two men likely weren’t there.

[...]

Dozens of officers descended on the community Sunday. A search into the night resumed Monday with canine units, helicopters, a Royal Canadian Air Force CC-130H Hercules aircraft, drones and an RCMP boat patrol. Residents were advised to stay indoors with the windows closed and doors locked.

But the pair was not found. Insp. Lewis said authorities want to have tactical resources ready to deploy in multiple directions if need be. By Tuesday morning, all of the officers will be gone from York Landing.

[...]

York Factory First Nation Chief Leroy Constant said late Monday afternoon in a Facebook post that the emergency response team was heading back to Gillam to “develop a plan moving forward.”

“Major Crime Unit has also left the community. Ten officers will remain in York Landing overnight ... They will be departing on the 8 a.m. ferry.”

[...]

York Landing is a community of about 500 people, accessible by ferry from Split Lake or by foot by following power and rail lines through the dense, insect-laden bush. It is about 100 kilometres southwest from Gillam, but rough terrain and limited roads easily double the journey.

At first, Travis Bighetty, a co-ordinator for the Bear Clan Patrol, and Justin Coelho, a fresh volunteer, thought the men might be contract workers or residents. But then they noticed there was no other vehicle around. No one in the community goes to the dump on foot because of the threat posed by the bears.

[...]

The men, one clad in a grey sweatshirt and one in a camouflage sweatshirt, bolted into the woods at the sound of the patrol vehicle, Mr. Bighetty said.

Thank you! What a difference between last night and tonight.

@MistyWaters, Yes, thank you for your pithy explanation of the well named WINTER ROAD!

I of course realized all this and I wasn't suggesting that these 2 subjects set out to in the SUMMER to hike WINTER roads as in some places that would amount to suicide. Unless that is what they wanted to do of course!

No, the reason I posted the information is that the maps of these winter roads provide some good info on the terrain, smaller landmarks, indigenous land areas, railroads, locations not on other maps and show different path options through these regions and this was my reason for posting them. Sorry if for whatever reason you were confused.

If you do an overlay of powerlines and hydro power paths its interesting that there are networks of pathways through the region that wouldn't appear obvious by looking at a standard map and that might appeal to the creative minds of the 2 suspects who just might want to stay off the beaten path.

Me personally I think they just might have hit the road in a car again after no doubt a horrific experience in the bush!

Or just walk back out on the roads they came in on at night, hiding when they saw a vehicle coming, not difficult. They could have done that last night, while everyone was rushing to the dump, go around the edge of town (12 yo said she saw someone out back of her house) and walk out on the road, hiding when any lights are seen in distance.

I’ve seen three pics of the dump and not one of them features a dumpster... the way MSM loves to sensationalize items like this I find it shocking, by now it should be the most famous dumpster in North America.

I'm not convinced that bee was buttoning up his shirt. I think he was just fiddling. Wasn't it known that he was on Ritalin? If so and he hasn't had his medication he could be just fidgeting and paranoid type of actions. So we don't know if he stole something and was hiding it in his coat.
We haven't chatted about Ritalin withdrawl on this thread yet believe it or not!

Looks like withdrawl might just result in some side effects that could hinder someone attempting to stay 2 steps ahead of the RCMP:

Found a handy chart for reference:
The-Ritalin-Withdrawal-Timeline-Chart-640x906.png

Ritalin Withdrawal Timeline
The onset of Ritalin withdrawal symptoms usually occurs right after drug effects have worn off. Symptoms may last for a few weeks after the last dose. What are withdraw symptoms of Ritalin? We review in the guideline list below that is sorted by period of occurrence for better understanding.

24-72 hours after the last Ritalin dose:

  • Agitation
  • Cravings
  • Heartbeat changes
  • Intense fatigue
  • Mood swings
  • Nausea
4-7 days after the last Ritalin dose:

  • Depression
  • Exhaustion
  • Increased appetite
  • Irritability
  • Nervousness
  • Sleep disorder
Week 2 Ritalin Withdrawal:

  • Anxiety
  • Cravings
  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep disorders
  • Nervousness
Week 3 Ritalin Withdrawal:

  • Cravings stabilization
  • Depression
  • Nervousness
  • Sleep disorders
Week 4 Ritalin Withdrawal:

  • Sleep disorder
  • Feeling better
Since Ritalin is a strong stimulant, bear in mind that withdrawal symptoms can happen later than the projected timeline. Additionally, some symptoms can seem to be resolved but then appear later. And still other symptoms – especially related to mood – can persist for months after you quit.

How Long To Withdrawal From Ritalin?
The Ritalin withdrawal period is unique for each person that uses this drug. The amount of time it takes for you to completely detox from Ritalin varies. In fact, this duration depends on many factors, including:

  • Your normal Ritalin dosage
  • The overall length of Ritalin use
  • Your general health and body condition
Furthermore, people who (ab)use Ritalin may experience prolonged withdraw symptoms know as PAWS. These symptoms can last several months, and in some extreme cases even longer. Ritalin PAWS include:

  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Mood swings
  • Sleeping disturbance

I enjoyed this post very much and am in agreement. Ty.
I wonder why if it was NOT them, whoever was at the dump that day would not come forward and say “sorry you were mistaken, that was me”. Seems odd that no one has come forward to admit they were at the dump.

A lot of things posted here make no sense. Like the blokes ditching their guns while on the run AND being in inhospitable terrain where they have to know they very well might encounter wildlife.
Besides, they need their guns for the final act. After all they've been through, these two have no intention of surrendering quietly. They know life in prison awaits them when caught and I doubt that's part of their plan.
There has been no evidence that they ever have had guns. They are suspects in the shooting but we don't know how Mr. D died at all.

Yes, this is also puzzling! It just gets weirder and weirder.

People who were at the dump probably have come forward. The assumption here is that Mr. Bighetty and his partner know what they saw.

Nice find! It does look like the same vehicle, including the mud flaps.

Sorry if I am way way behind, been working all day and trying to catch up. It looks like a chunk of the black weather stripping/seal is missing in the exact same spot under blown out window in both photos. I think this is the same van, that is an amazing find, nice work!

I wonder what the protocol is for searches when you lose track of someone. Going back to Gillam seems odd.

About B’s camo clothing, this was what his father had to say. I appreciate after the DM article about his apparent upcoming book, his reliability may be questionable but still, if true, there was something going in B’s head drawing him into a keen interest over WW2 that occurred over 70 years ago.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/schmegelsky-father-denies-neo-nazi-1.5227466

“Alan Schmegelsky said Thursday that his son took him to an army surplus store about eight months ago in his small Vancouver Island hometown of Port Alberni, B.C., where the teen was excited about the Nazi artifacts.

"I was disgusted and dragged him out," Schmegelsky said. "My grandparents fled the Ukraine with three small children during the Second World War.".....

.......Despite his son's fascination with the collectibles, Schmegelsky said he didn't believe his son identified as a neo-Nazi.

"He thought he was Russian. Germans are their enemies," he said....”

*****
June 6, 2019 was also the 75th anniversary of D-Day celebrated in Canada, perhaps in some places more than others.

Why did you bold the part about being Russian?

Why did you bold the part about being Russian?

Because that’s what the father claimed B believed he was.

“He thought he was Russian.”

ETA

I don’t think his tendency toward camo clothing was necessarily only a fad when combined with an perceived or imaginary (?) Russian heritage and Russian battle video games. Maybe in his out-of-touch-with-reality-head he’s escaping who he believes is the enemy in some kind of imaginary war game.

“.....The father, who is estranged from the teen's mother, explained that he didn't see his son between the ages of eight and 16, and during that time the boy came under the mistaken belief that he had Russian heritage.....

.......Schmegelsky's account shows he frequently played a shooting game called Russia Battlegrounds, and both young men's Facebook pages were connected to an account called Illusive Gameing, which has a modified Soviet flag as its icon...”
