Absolutely. If the van could have been connected to the victims on July 15, police would have known the identity of the victims and the nature of the murders. Dr Leonard Dyck would have known that he needed to be cautious regarding roadside stops due to random murders on July 15, and he very likely would not have been alone on the side of the road on July 19.

Someone dropped the ball. RCMP followed protocol and notified the public of the murders as soon as they understood the situation. Unfortunately, that was delayed 3 days.

The initial RCMP statement that I have in front of me is dated the morning of July 16, three days before Dyck was killed, and says that the first two deaths were being handled by the RCMP’s “Major Crimes Unit”.

What is weird in this and I'm only going by memory, I remember hearing very early on, maybe the day after the couple were found, that Lucas was arguing with an older man at the side of the road. An eyewitness account was that it was an older bearded man. I'll see if I can find that story. But that sure sounds like Leonard.

That’s correct. It was characterized as “heated,” but the article also mentioned “frustrated.”

I’m not reading much into this, and don’t think it’s in any way connected.

A witness viewing an interaction may not understand the context.

Every witness is going to have (atleast) a slightly different interpretation of what they are seeing.

These two are suspected of that crime, which means that this guy just can’t be involved.

I’m sure that multiple people interacted with this couple, and those events just weren’t independently spotted.

Besides that, Leonard was killed quite a distance away, and on a different day.

We aren't allowed to link to him, but the reporter Josh Boswell has an interview with Travis Bighetty on his twitter that points out the dump on a map.

Are you able to pinpoint the location on this map?

I am packing up and heading out on my cross Canada road trip today. I am not letting two punks deter me. I have tremendously enjoy the discussions on here and felt the frustrations, stress as probably most have. I sincerely hope the suspects are captured alive soon, if they are not already deceased. If they are hiding out in someone’s basement, I hope they man up and come out and face the music.

Cheers all ... see you in a few weeks at which time I hope there will be positive developments.

I hope you have fun.

RCMP shoot to kill. If someone is shooting at them, that is what they will do.
Doubt these punks have bullet proof vests. They might only have one gun between themselves. LE will shoot to incapacitate first and kill as a last measure. The punks would be way too outnumbered.

Although, local media were reporting the deaths the next day, July 16: Two people found dead south of Liard River Hotsprings - Energeticcity.ca

But things are getting murky, and I can't recall when the big media outlets like CBC or CTV picked up the story.

When the boys got through that road stop they must have thought that was a close call. Realizing that they would have to turn around and possibly go back through that road stop again.. they may not be so lucky the second time, in a stolen car. They had no choice but to get rid of the car!

No cars were reported stolen from the gillam area and their car was set on fire.. no wonder LE had every reason to believe the boys didnt leave Gillam.

They must still be there.

On another note.. pretty sure unrelated but still wild. Last night around 7pm our roommate was travelling on the via from Toronto to sarnia. Train was stopped for over an hour (I'm hearing now possibly related to a derailment) BUT the train was taken over and searched by cops. Crazy eh.. my first thought of course was the boys..

They certainly could have and likely IMO did leave by some other means: train, boat, or walking

The composite sketch that was released looked nothing like Leonard, not even close.

For sure. MOO is that they probably don't have a long gun though. Hard to hide, and likely would have been noticed. A pistol can be kept in one's wasteband or a cargo pocket. Sighting at the dump (if accurate) also didn't mention a weapon. 5.56, .303 and 7.62 (common rd sizes) also cause horrific wounds. I'm less interested in the mechanism of death, and more in the fact they are ostensibly successfully evading detection and capture.

The C130 that was deployed is used successfully all the time to spot people adrift at sea. Sometimes without hi-vis clothing on.

The issue with the FLIR technology is that it works better in certain environments than in others.

Heavily wooded areas are obviously much harder to detect people than in open ones, especially the sea and desert.

It’s incredible technology though.

Negative on that one. When a weapon is used it is to put down a threat using lethal force. No 'shooting them in the leg' stuff.

Gunfighter drills are 'two to the chest, one to the head'.

Edit: even non-tactical police officers are taught to aim center of mass. Been a long while since taught the weaver stance. All isosceles stances now (better protection from the front plate).

Be careful...I don't know if you've heard but there are two murderous fugitives out there somewhere.

For sure - if you reference my earlier post as well, CADPAT is designed to evade NV/IR as well. It is quite good at that.

They didn't announce they were murdered until they named Bryer and Kam as the suspects, did they? And how long did that take, like 5-6 days? I highly doubt it took the RCMP 5 days to figure out the tourists were murdered. RCMP finally gave us that info after they were basically forced to by the Australian media. When tourists are murdered, that can be bad for tourism. Might be why they were trying to keep it quiet.

It's true. After the bodes were found, RCMP asked for sightings of the van and dashcam footage. A road worker came forward and said that at 11:30PM on July 14 she saw a bearded man (age omitted), either slightly shorter or taller (inconsistent reporting) than 6'3" Lucas, talking to the first two victims.

That information was released after the identity of the victims was confirmed. Prior to knowing the identity, it could have been a husband pleading with his wife and her boyfriend.

I'm sorry if this is a really remedial request at this point, thread #9, but I missed this detail as I was on a road trip for four days;

Have the two been formally charged with murdering Lucas Fowler and Chynna Dease? I know they have been charged with 2nd degree for LD.

Any links to the charges are very appreciated. :)
