IMO the Shoiet comment about public interest should be irrelevant to the fact that the information surrounding the circumstances of the deaths should have been shared with the public immediately due to involved safety issues. I think it was presumptuous of the RCMP to not put the info out such as it was and to then allow the public to makes its own choices as to how to proceed.

Playing out what the RCMP decided to do, can you imagine if this had been a spree killing episode up and down the Alaska Highway and there were a series of horrific events over the entire 3 days period it took to identify the victims and another 2-3 days to classify the event as related to "gun violence".

People driving in the area would have been sitting ducks and had no idea what was going on because there had been no announcement from the RCMP. Just writing this now I hope there is an investigation sometime down the line as to how to handle public safety emergency announcements.

It seems like the RCMP didn't want to put out any information about the situation until after the bodies were identified. It just seems if there is a potential safety issue that this would be more important than making sure the public had the names of the murdered victims.

Would the public awareness of a potential safety issue or 'interest' as Shoiet claimed have even existed if the Aussies hadn't shared the information with the press? My bet is that the Aussies saw clearly what was happening and recognized that the safety issue was real and did what they did to put the info out into the public domain. Thank goodness.

Is Shoiet saying that RCMP only responds with information if the public is taking an interest in a situation? I really hope this isn't what was meant.....

Not trying to bash the police, especially since they receive such unwarranted hate online especially, but I have noticed a lack of providing public with any information on many different fronts. Many families that have had to deal with them because of missing family members voice frustration over being kept completely in the dark about everything. I have my doubts that the public would know anything about this case if they had a choice, the Aussie media forced them to reveal more than they typically would.

Well that's certainly piqued my interest. Maybe

they knew they couldn't go down to the United States and participate.
Maybe they decided to 'play a game' up here in Canada?

I mean.... they actually are doing the 'Ultimate Survival game' now... aren't they?

People dead, vehicle stolen, vehicles burnt out, purposely or non-perposely showing their faces on videos. Hiding out in the dense forests of Northern Manitoba for a week?
Not getting caught by the Royal Canadian police, local police, the Canadian military, volunteers, and Canadian citizens...... So far.
They (supposedly) haven't been seen in a week.

So far that's quite the "survival game" being played out in Real time with Real People.

Is it a coincidence fortnite is having the survival game down in the US?
They probably would have gone home and downloaded Fortnite and played 24/7 to try to get to the next tournament, rather than kill real people for nothing?

I'm not so sure how realistically possible Port Alberni to Alberta in such a short time frame actually is. Firstly, there's a fairly challenging drive from PA to the Nanaimo ferry terminal. Then there's the initial reliance on the ferry schedule from Vancouver Island to the mainland - a journey of over 1 and 1/2 hours IF you don't have to wait for a couple of sailings to even get on the boat in busy summer tourist season. Then there's a pretty arduous journey through the Canadian Rockies which, we'll have to imagine is without traffic delays or roadwork or landslides enroute, all of which are common. All of that will eventually get you to the Alberta border on the Trans Canada, but you're still a very long way away from the Dease Lake area. Doing all that in 2 days and a bit would certainly be a challenge. Not impossible but you'd pretty much have to totally discount taking time for food and sleep, etc. Two people spelling each other could possibly manage the journey ok, but somebody would probably have to be awakened to participate in the killing spree. IMO
Two days leaves plenty of time to eat, sleep, fuel, and take bathroom breaks for a single driver on a route that is expected to take 25 or so hours (waiting a sailing or two would add some time):

I’m not just basing this on Google maps. I regularly leave far northern BC late in the morning and arrive in the Vancouver area the next evening when traveling alone (for comparison, Google maps predicts 24 hours for my trip), It’s a long drive, but very doable. With a driver to trade off with I’ve done the whole trip in under 24 hrs (made it on last minute notice to see my grandma who’d been hospitalized just before she passed away).

Has anybody looked at the game is that Kam was/is a moderator on, "rust"? You usually have to be pretty trustworthy and responsible to be a game moderator? Hmm, I just looked up rust and the scenery looks familiar, Rust | Facepunch -
- but this is a GAME that people don't just go and act our in real life, yes they used to play in the woods near their house, but that is very different to murdering people on the side of the road

This is what I said a few threads back.
They should have called it a double shooting from the beginning. No need to release names or even gender.

To many, a suspicious death nowadays means an opioid overdose.
Here is link to Press Briefing on July 19th (DOD July 14/15):

Prior to the 19th the 2 deaths were described as "suspicous deaths".

As of this briefing date (19th) the deaths were discussed as being homicides, the names of the 2 victims were provided and the situation was deemed suspicious by RCMP. "Gun Violence" is NOT mentioned by the RCMP in this Press Briefing (but is discussed in the next Press Briefing).

RCMP spent more time in the Press Briefing talking about NSW folks (Fowler father and 2 detectives) coming to Canada as not being part of the investigation group than speaking to the issue of public safety or the COD.

RCMP said that they did not have any information to lead them to believe that there was a heightened risk of safety in the area.

I noticed that, too, and found it interesting. I've never been a game mod but have done staff work on other websites. In my experience, they don't approach you until you prove yourself to be level-headed and well-behaved. I would think BS, with his history of harassment of other players, would probably never be asked to be a mod. That's just asking for a nightmare!

Why burn their red truck?

Maybe they were just crappy vehicle owners. First time driving such a long distance (1900+ km) they didn’t even think about checking the oil and ran it dry. Could have caused it to overheat and catch fire. Would be reasonable as to why everything was left in the camper. I know in my area we have had a few years where about 8-10 vehicles caught fire and burnt on the side of the highway during the summer.

But that certainly doesn’t account for them running and the death of LD.

Not v good with maps or spatial areas.

Cant stop thinking that The 'League of Legends' Game, (which it's been reported that Kam in partucular enjoyed) in it's most popular mode, ' Summoner's Rift' has a battle map area split by a River, with 'Lanes' or Roadways in an apparent set pattern enclosing areas of Forest.

Not possible that somehow theyre transposing this layout onto a real geographic map area ( given the prominence of River/Road/Forest in the actual RL narrative?)

Danielle McMaster is a search volunteer with Bear Clan Patrol in York Landing - confirms one of the men spotted by her group of volunteers was wearing a camouflage shirt, like teen suspect Bryer Schmegelsky.

This is the girl I saw on the midday news today (in Oz).

No CoD for LD yet, 2nd degree M charge. If truck/camper on fire, Could LD have stopped to help, been threatened for vehicle? Heart Attack? Or made to abandon vehicle and HA after walking a KM or so?

Junk yard on York Landing, Manitoba... gives you an idea of the sort of terrain the teen fugitives may have fled into when they were disturbed by the search volunteers (if indeed it was them).

Possible, except burning the RAV4 makes it seem like the truck being torched was not as innocent as an accidental fire.

Just my thoughts: When I read that they left saying they were heading to Whitehorse, but no actual confirmation they got there, as well as saying they wanted to make money, it did run through my mind if they had really planned to go to the Fortnite video game tournament in US where people can win heaps of money from having good survival skills in the game! They left with time to even go to Whitehorse and Alberta and still get there, until their plans changed drastically. Does a Canadian need a passport to go into the US? But probably not as they appeared to mainly play on steam according to reports?
A passport or other verifiable identification - birth certificate, driver's license etc. is necessary. It's fair to assume that it is unlikely they'd be carrying the first documents and there was only one driver's license between them.

But where is it confirmed or even stated that it was the fugitives who lit up the RAV4?

Could cKam and Bryer still be alive? Could they survive the elements of being chased by RCMP, the military etc in Canadas remote Harsh wildlands?

Found this and thought it was really interesting.
Below is a tiny bit of information that I pulled from the article. But the article goes into more depth about him hiding out in the bush Etc.

"Sixteen years ago, handyman Kevin Vermette vanished into the dense woods around the isolated northwestern B.C. community of Kitimat after allegedly shooting three young men to death and leaving a fourth gravely wounded............
......... 43-year-old experienced outdoorsman would have had to outwit RCMP officers, tracker dogs and helicopters used to hunt him. After the shooting, he was thought to be boxed in by the dense forests around the community, pinpointed these days as the endpoint for the Northern Gateway pipeline from the Alberta oil sands.............."

Wanted man who fled B.C. city 16 years ago may be alive: RCMP

Quite an informative and really good read.

Melissa Tait‏Verified account @meltait 7h7 hours ago

Earlier today at #YorkLanding members of the Manitoba RCMP containment team searched the garbage dump where there was a reported sighting of two triple murder suspects. They were also scaring bears away. Later in the day the police said it was an unsubstantiated sighting.

Kinda looks like places my hubby will drag me along when taking the dog out for a three hour tour . 063BD7FC-2787-4BEC-8C1B-6218EF3FE967.jpeg Seriously though it can be so difficult to spot anyone out in the bush, it’s even harder if they are trying to remain hidden.
